With the new year so close, Gus told me he'd really like a new page to go with it!!

Gus is approximately 18 months old and has been with RAGOM since May of 2007.  In that time, he has been in two different foster homes, a doggy daycare, and also stayed for 6 weeks with the St. Paul K9 Unit.  You may ask, "Why?" has he been bounced around so much and not yet adopted?  Well, from what we know of Gus, he is a high-energy, bouncy, puppy.  Not unusual for his age!  The one exception for Gus is that he seems to have difficulty learning due to his high levels of energy.

Both of Gus' foster homes, the doggy daycare, and the St. Paul K9 unit were sad to see him go.  But all had the same thing to say about him and that is that he just can't seem to focus long enough to learn.  He seems to be anxious and unable to calm himself down enough to put his mind to anything.

All that being said, Gus is truly a handsome and smart boy.  He enjoys playing ball, running, and even learning new things - it just takes him a little longer.

Gus' perfect home would be one in which he can be the only child (fur or otherwise).  Due to his lack of doggy social skills, he does not do well with all other dogs and is unpredictable with which dogs he will tolerate and which he won't.  Also, since we have no history of him with kids and he is a bouncy, jumpy pup, we will only place him with families who have kids over the age of 12.

Gus will need a family who enjoys taking classes with him to help him learn, someone who enjoys lots of exercise (running, fetch, etc...), and someone who can understand his quirks enough to love him.  This pup has been through a lot this last year and he is worth taking a chance on!  Once he learns that you love him and you are his to keep forever, he will give you that love back 10-fold.

Gus here.  Guess what?  I am officially two years old!  Can you believe it!!!!!  Man, I feel like a teenager, course Dad says I am making up for lost time and actually I am still a pup.  I have made great strides around the homestead.  I have a 200 yd. run that I take advantage of all the time (and when Mom isn't watching, I try sneaking into the zuchinni/cuke patch to play in the dirt.  I got caught and kind of did a number on a few of the plants, now I am fenced out of the patch.)

I went swimming with Dad a couple weeks ago.  After I realized he wasn't drowning me, I actually got to like sticking my head under water.  I am getting better and better around noise.  I don't jump so often.  Thunder doesn't bother me nor does Dad's power tools, the lawnmower or weed whip.  I still have a few moments with the vacuum.  that is really the only thing.

I help mom pick raspberries.  I wasn't quite sure about strawberries - I love june berries.  New treats to try out all the time.

I am healthy, happy and love to ride with Dad in the truck.  I am happy here.  Dad can let me out the door and I will stop at the bottom of the stairs for "hook-up".  I shocked Mom and did it for her too!

Hope life is well down there.  Hi to all.

Gus

Gus speaks about his cross country adventure...He sure lives the Golden Life.

How's it shaking?  Having a good spring?  My favorite snowpile melted finally but I sure love running in the grass.  Mom comes running though when I start my hole digging.  She doesn't think it is cute.  I try to keep the yard and bird feeders free of squirrels and chipmunks, but they love to tease me.  I keep SOOOOO busy!  Dad gave me this old basketball and I love to have it tossed for me.  I even whap it around and beat myself on the head with it.  What fun!!!!!

This spring, Dad took me to a lake for a bath.  It was cold, I was miserable and tried climbing Dad like a tree.  Dad said good thing no one was around - they'd  think he was trying to drown me.  I did get half bathed and some hair trimmed.  I even let Dad use the furminator on me once and a while.  I just hate sitting around for long.

My buddy Haley went back to her Mom and Dad just as we headed out on our next big adventure.  I got to ride with Dad down in a U-Haul truck all the way to Clearwater Florida.  Man, I got to chase munks, moles, and the best were the anoles.  My whiffer was going nonstop.  I learned some new words on the trip too coming through Atlanta in a tornado.  There was always something to see and when we came back, I got to be  the backseat co-pilot.  I much prefer the front seat though.  When we were in Florida, we got to walk on the causeway between Tampa and Clearwater.  I didn't want to get to close cause it was noisey.  It took us three and a half days to get down there and only two and a half to get home.  Mom wasn't real happy to just have one day to play.  Oh well.  Next time.  We can always go down and visit Uncle Craig and Aunty Crystal!!!

Then the following weekend, I had another test - staying home alone.  I passed with flying colors, TWICE!!!!  Course they were only gone for a little while both times, but I was a good boy.

Mom and Dad have been putting stuff in the ground in the fence area.  I can't go in there but they said they'd share the goodies when they picked them.  I love treats!!!!

Well, tell the guys I said hello.  I will try and keep you all posted as I go through new adventures.

Gussie- this is foster mom here. We love to hear your stories but even more, we are pleased to have been a part of your incredible life. You were a challenge but sweetheart, you gave us so much joy in the way you grew into the guy were all knew was at the center of Gus. Keep up the good work...smooches Foster Mom.

Gus checking in again. I just want to give a big shout out Hello to all my friends and extended family down in the Cities. Life is s w e e t  here. I get to ride in a big Truck all I want. I can go to work with my dad or mom, how cool is that? My dad says I'm a Truck Dog whatever that is, I thought I was a Golden.
My mom makes the most fantastic home made dog treats for me and dad flips me popcorn.
...Miller, old buddy of mine, I'm not without certain other kinds of company either. Halli is a lab mix and she's lots of fun, of course I'm the Boss of the dogs here but I share with her. We get along just fine. We go for walks together too.
As you all can see moi here is getting more and more handsome as the days go by.
Love to all
Gus

Gus just checkin' in. Boy, have I got it made now. The photo shows me cavorting on the northern most shore of Lake Superior.

I stuck a paw in and walked around a little. Wow..was that water cold.
All sorts of great stuff to sniff too. It's so beautiful here it's like looking at postcards everywhere you look.

Gus on his Great New Adventure

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Gus is getting sprung from boarding every couple of days by a RAGOM volunteer. She was his original foster and because of his energy level and her health problems, she is unable to keep him fulltime at her house. He knows her dogs and does well in his own version of doggy day care! Gus has also begun dog obedience classes. Check him out flying around with the frisbee. Is he having fun or what? Is that a happy dog? Gus's adoptive family will need to have the time and patience to continue training since he is an incredibly high energy boy. If you like to run or go skijoring Gus might be the dog for you!
