Well Gussie came to live with us on Tuesday evening, he is 6 year old Purebred Golden Retriever, he is a tall boy and weighs 83. pounds. He is quite a gentleman, he isn't bossy, doesn't counter surf, loves attention, walks like a charm on a leash and doesn't seem to care if he meets yappers on his walk just keeps on trucking...
Gus was very subdued and quiet when he joined our home, I'm sure he was wondering what the heck he was doing in a new home with two other furrbutts who were bossy and annoying. He decided to stay in the kitchen for 2 days then ventured into the living room for visits. As of Friday he was taking dog naps in the living room and sleeping on the floor in foster mom's bedroom. He has also graduated from having to eat with gravy over his kibble to just eating it plain. This morning all 3 goldens decided to switch dishes to see which one tasted better, the verdict is still out because the all had the same thing.
I've walked Gus twice since he joined us, he walks great on a leash, no pulling, some sniffing but mostly just enjoying the outdoors. He hasn't decided to potty or poop on his walks and that's just fine and dandy with me.
Gus has storm anxiety and is taking puppy prozac for this condition. He started the meds on August 17th and we haven't had a storm yet so I don't know if he also needs additional meds during a actual storm.
Gus takes treats very gentle and doesn't resource guard at all. He gets along with the other goldens and they act as a pack. He did happen to see a rabbit in the yard on Saturday and decided he should investigate it further but after he realized it had went under the fence he decided to let it go. Gus also barks like a girl... he only barks when he sees someone outside of the glass door and usually doesn't initiate the barking, just follows the others to be part of the gang.
Gus is also totally housetrained, not one accident. He is gentle with toys and loves bones. On Saturday night he brought the stuffed monkey to bed with him and just laid his head on it and drifted off to sleep.
Gus also rides very nice in the car, during transport he jumped in the car, settled in the backseat and went to sleep.
Very content.
If Gus would fit into your home please contact placement. Gus would probably do best with another dog in the home or a home where he isn't alone during the daytime.
