Hallie is a 5 year-old female Golden Retriever who came into our care from a commercial breeding situation. Hallie has been in our home for just over a week now and is slowly settling in with the family. She has two large-breed foster sisters who have been helping her acclimate to her new home. 

Due to Hallie's upbringing, she frightens easily from noises she is not familiar with and is fearful of new situations. During her first week with us, Hallie has kept to herself in her kennel most of the time, just taking in all the new sights and sounds of living in a real home. Hallie does not eat or drink while the other dogs or human family are near her, so she also eats her meals in her kennel at this time. 

Hallie is unfortunately fearful of her human foster mom and dad right now. When it's time to go outside, we cannot be near the door she has to go out of to get to the yard, or she will not go out. She will also stay on the opposite side of the yard as us right now. We have some work to do to earn back Hallie's trust of humans. 

Despite Hallie's fear, she has shown a little of her playful side. She will take laps around the yard and follows the other dogs around checking things out. We even saw her give a play bow to our resident Golden, who was too busy hunting for rabbits to be bothered to play at the time. 

Hallie has shown no aggression towards other dogs with toys, food, or attention, and has only been mild-mannered since her arrival. She lets me clean her ears and put drops in them without problem. I have also brushed her once, which she also tolerated very well. 

While Hallie isn't ready to fully trust us humans, we have seen tiny improvements throughout the week. While I was in my office working, she did come and sit by the door one day, and then the next day, she came even further into the room and actually laid down to be with the other dogs. This was huge for Hallie and very exciting for me to see.

Because of Hallie's background, she will need to be in a home with children 13 or older, or no children at all. Hallie will also need another large dog in her forever home who can continue to show her what it's like to be a dog in a loving home. She will need a patient family who understands that it will take time for her to trust her new family. She will also need a fenced-in yard where she can run and play and know she is safe.
