Harley hit the big time this past week! Yep--his forever family found him and he is a lucky boy. He has a human sister who adores him already, a human brother that walks him every day, a fur sister and 3 cats! Yes--I said cats. This family was persistent in meeting Harley boy knowing that most dogs can learn to live with cats. I was thrilled to hear that. And even more thrilled to learn they planned to get him into obedience training on day 3 in their home. They love this little stinker and I know he loves them too. I can see it in his face.

Harley was quite the popular boy at the Petsmart event last weekend. Everyone loved his peanut stature! I am not sure what he is mixed with, but the vet agrees that he will not get much bigger than his 30 pounds. He's just a little guy--but don't tell him that as he thinks he is quite the dog! One of Harley's favorite wrestling buddies is Moose who weighs 105 pounds and is pictured with the boy here.
He is still a mouthy puppy and still will guard things he really wants--mostly things like raw bones. He will growl and freeze. He lets me lay beside him and give him other treats but I don't try to take it away until it is clear he is done with it. Then it is easy to trade with him. Harley does not guard his food bowl--never has--nor his toys.
I took him to the vet last weekend because he has some new scabs and sure enough, his Demodex was never completely healed so he is back on antibiotics for another month. At least it is not on his face this time!
Harley is a special boy that deserves a chance at a good life with a family that will know how to manage his life in a positive way.

Harley's visit fell through as the family was too busy to come meet him. Hopefully they will have luck finding another boy as sweet as Mr. Harley. He certainly would like to meet his own new forever family soon!
Harley had a big weekend with another dog visiting. She was not so enamored of his puppy ways at first but finally decided he was a great tug-of-war buddy and they chased each other around the yard. He has learned so much in the last few weeks. He is a sweet snuggle boy when he is not zooming around.
The boy is on the brink of losing the last of his baby teeth. His 4 canines are barely hanging on as the new adult teeth push through. He had a few days of obsessive chewing last week but it has settled back down to normal puppy stuff now.
Harley has been chasing the birds, butterflies and grasshoppers in the yard! He brought me a dead bird but I think that one died before he got it. He has caught a grasshopper and a few frogs (or are they toads?). I thought Harley might be OK with a cat--most puppies can learn to not mess with a dog savvy cat. But I think even if he learned not to chase it, he would have a harder time learning not to stare and bark at it! So I think he would do best in a home without other small animals--unless it was another dog.
So for Harley:
- No cats or rabbits
- No kids under 10
- OK without a fence if you train him--he's not a runner
- OK with other dogs
- Needs obedience
Let your placement advisor know if this might be your family!

Harley is doing great! Dogs respond really well to a consistent routine and Harley has it down pat. He knows the morning routine before work, goes eagerly into his crate with treats and toys without whining or barking and sleeps through the night on the floor beside the bed. I gate all of the dogs in the bedroom so we all sleep together.
Harley has learned sit and is working on increasing the length of time in his 'stay'. He is also working on come. He will benefit tremendously from obedience classes as he is very smart and treat motivated. He pays attention and works at trying to figure out what I want from him.
Of course, he is still a puppy! So he gets the zoomies once an evening, pesters the other dogs to play but also plays by himself and barks when he is excited. Harley is also mouthing and is losing his puppy teeth. He doesn't bite hard as he has learned it isn't OK. Harley has never had an accident and is fully house trained. He likes his swimming pool on these hot days. He has healed from his neuter and is ready for his forever home. Is that you?

Harley is wearing a cone since his neuter last Sunday. All is healing well. It is a good thing he got to swim on Saturday since he can't be wet for another week or so. Harley is ready to meet his forever family! If you are interested in this boy, contact your placement advisor.

A BIG shout out and puppy kisses to Renee and Riley for sponsoring this boy!! Holy cow--he is really honored to be chosen by a former RAGOM brother. Thank you so much!
Harley has fully recovered from his bad case of mange and now even the hair on his face is growing in.
Another month or so and you will never know he had it. He is feeling so much better and the puppy spirit is alive and well. He gets the puppy 'zoomies' at least once a day. He also chews on EVERYTHING as puppies do. So we keep trading him for appropriate puppy chew toys. Harley will give chase and nip at your ankles when he is excited. Attention is taken away and he is starting to figure out that puppy teeth don't belong on people. My resident dogs are very tolerant of him although he has a few lessons in manners.
Harley went swimming yesterday for the first time. He whined when his feet lifted off the bottom but kept swimming to come to me. After that it was all over and he is in love with the water. We went to the Petsmart event today and Harley had a good time. That is him smiling under his foster brother Skye.
When Harley first came in he was guarding his stuff from people. He has learned with us that isn't necessary. But dogs don't always generalize things to all people. So Harley will need obedience classes and a family without young kids. Someone who is dog savvy and willing to continue to work with him in a positive manner so he learns how to handle his frustrations.
