We adopted Harvey in October 2019. He is now 6 years old, with 7 year old sister Golden Retriever Bonnie. They get along well.
Neither are very good on walks, Harvey gets distracted by surroundings, Bonnie is lazy and goes about two blocks and quits.T he only Golden we've had that doesn't like walks. That would be 5 dogs over 40 years.
So, lots of back yard time, playing ball and jumping in the doggy pool. They are adjusting to new dogs living on either side of us. They do well with dogs, bunnies, squirrels, and cats beware.
We were told Harvey's mother was a Golden Retriever. They weren't sure of dad. We really think dad was some sort of hound. Harvey is tall, lean, and howls like a hound. Nose of a hound, he can smell the bunnies. More pictures to come.

Harvey went home today. He’ll have a young golden named Bonnie as his new sister and will be going on lots of walks and chasing balls for his neighbors.
He’s already settled in and was so busy playing ball with his new mom that he didn’t even notice his foster dad leave. No offense taken, Harvey. Enjoy the Golden life.

Here's Harvey hanging out in bed with his foster after an hour of playing ball.

I had a visit from my human friends today. They helped out my foster parents by going on a long walk with me. I walked so nicely on the leash. I really liked it when I could check out the squirrels. Don’t I look handsome in the fall colors?!

Harvey settled into his new foster home right away. He used his foster dad as a bed. He also snuggled with his foster baby. Therefore, Harvey is kid- and baby-friendly as well as cat-friendly.
Then he went to St. Paul Octoberfest with his foster family where he met a horse. Lots of people came up to Harvey and told him what a good boy he is.
And then he crawled into bed with his foster parents again. His fosters discovered more things about Harvey. He’s very trainable. They taught Harvey to lay on his doggy bed at their bedside by giving him treats.
They also discovered that keeping Harvey out of the bathtub will be a challenge. He loves swimming, walking, and ball!
Harvey has not had a single seizure at his foster home. He’s given medicine twice a day. It also makes him thirsty; therefore, he needs to go out a little more frequently. He always lets his people know when that is.
Harvey is a Velcro dog who wants to be around his people and wants to play. He has a big brother dog who is teaching him manners as well.

Today Harvey went for a car ride to the RAGOM volunteer picnic. He enjoyed meeting many dogs and getting petted by lots of dog-loving people. He got his own homemade pup cup and lots of treats, and he shared his ball and toy. He even got a quick swim in too. He sure likes to carry his ball and ball-like toys!

Harvey really loves summer days when he can be outside. A dip in the pool is always welcome after a nice walk. Even better when you can play fetch, catch, or squeak some toys with human or dog friends too.
Harvey loves to hang around with you. He is a pretty mellow kind of dog unless, of course, you’re willing to keep throwing his ball!

Harvey entered RAGOM’s care when his family decided that they could not provide the active lifestyle that he needed. He is a super sweet, 4.5-year-old Golden mix who weighs 77 pounds. He loves his people, especially if they enjoy throwing a ball for him to fetch.
Harvey will need an active family to call his own. His exercise routine will include walking, running, hiking, swimming, and his absolute favorite - playing fetch in the yard. A big supply of squeaky balls, along with someone willing to throw them, is an added bonus for Harvey. He also loves the water in his kiddie pool.
He did not live with children, but was around a nephew that was 4.5 years old when Harvey came into the surrendering owner's life. Harvey enjoyed this boy's company until his surrender when the boy was 8. He loved the boy because he was willing to throw a ball for him. We believe he will be fine with kids over 5 who can respect his needs.
Harvey can live with other dogs. He lived with 4 in his temporary foster home and coexisted nicely, but did not play with them, preferring humans to his canine buddies.
He lived with two cats in his surrendering owner's home with no problems.
Harvey will require a physical fence because it would be hard to play fetch on a tie-out or a leash. He also is easily startled by loud noises like fireworks, gunshots, or motorcycles, and he tries to escape by running away from the noise.
He is somewhere between medium- and high-energy. He has high energy when fetching, but he will lay nicely for attention. We think he would enjoy snuggling in a nice warm bed as well.
Harvey did have seizures in April and then in July when he was placed on medication for the seizures. His medication is given every 12 hours and seems to have resolved the seizure activity.
He saw a vet in August that have him a clean bill of health, and he has had no seizures since those in July, but he will need to continue to get his seizure medication.
Harvey is in a unique situation. He is currently in boarding, waiting for a foster home to open up for him. He is visited by RAGOM volunteers and has had day excursions to foster homes. Everyone that meets him loves him and says what a great dog he is.
Harvey will need to find a foster home before he can be adopted, but he is listed as "Adopt Me" so he can interview interested applicants as he waits for a foster home. He will also be at Goldzilla, so if you are interested, please submit an Inquiry for Application form or stop in to meet him at Goldzilla.
