So it is Halloween day and finally the sun has come out. Now as far as the further information on Hollie. First she is so totally awesome and is doing wonderful.
More background on her. After the shelter contacted Ragom, they took Hawley (named after a town), to get spayed and discovered she already was however, there is a misdiagnosis that she had a heart problem. I have had two vets check her heart and it is fine! Prior place thought some irregular heartbeats……..so that, thank goodness, is not an issue at all. Obviously from being a stray and shelter dog, she was quite dirty, coat/skin/ears. In the Ragom process, we vet right away. First the gold Ragom tag (which stays on for good) has our hotline number and also states they are microchipped (and a yellow chip tag is on as well). They of course are scanned first before we chip them. They are then registered to Ragom. Hollie did get rabies so has that tag as well. She is fully vetted. She was not checked for heartworm, etc., at the shelter so we did that as well. Hollie did test positive for Lyme disease (not surprising at all) (on the quick test). So we are on meds (doxycycline) for that; her skin was icky and ears so we are on antibiotic (cephalexin) for that. A minimal amount of deramaxx for a few days too for pain (she NEVER complains) but knowing the Lyme’s, to make sure she is real comfortable. The other meds, doxycycline, will be another 2 weeks and then we should be fine. Hollie is also on Panacur powder for possible intestinal infection (from fecal test) and once again, totally not surprising being a shelter/stray/rescue golden. Poor girl, who knows how long this stuff went on, however, prognosis from a couple vets is wonderful. Again, Hollie does not indicate any pain or discomfort, she gets into the car/truck quite well just needs a little boost in back end for right now. That too, should be fine later on once joints are not swollen or sore from the Lyme’s. Her ears are clearing up fine so a little more cleaning and ear meds (otomaxx) they will be just fine. What a trooper. She is perfectly fine at the vet, no problems at all checking all this out. She will be like new very quickly and I am sure Hollie is ready to really feel good. Good food, doggie beds, proper vetting, lovin’------ amazing what that does!
So again, the above is a medical review of Hollie and she is going to be just super here soon; just need to finish the meds. She takes the medication just fine, I mostly put it in her kibble which she gets 2X a day like the rest of the crew.
Her tail is wagging more each day and she really looks forward to her walks. I use a harness and she seems to like that. Also, at the shelter, they really cut/shaved her coat when they were trying to do a ultrasound for this possible heart issue so her feathers on her rear and some of the nice hair on her tail was very poorly cut, as was her belly shave. The thing about this is, of course, it grows back! And seeing the rest of her, she will have an awesome coat, a beautiful shiny copper coat with very golden highlights.
Hollie so loves to be pet and get attention, a typical golden girl. She does not bark at all. Again totally housetrained; she goes in and out the backyard (fenced) does her business, and comes right back in.
Hollie sometimes (as you will see in some photos) can have a ‘sad-type’ of face, but that is just her, she is not by any means ‘worried’ but that is her face…….so gentle and kind. She just wants to be around you. Hollie takes treats very gently. Not sure if she ever had very many before.
As far as a bunch of ‘commands’ we have not really explored that much. I want her to feel a little better first. However, each day more and more personality comes out, and I really think she feels so much better and wants to try and play……we are just ‘easing’ our way into that.
Again, I just cannot say enough times what a wonderful foster golden Hollie is, just wonderful. There are absolutely no behaviors with this girl at all. The neighbor dogs come racing over to the fence, and she totally listens to me and comes back. Just fine. She is currently living with 3 dogs and 3 cats and is perfect with them all. She is ‘respectful’ of the resident dogs, and they meld just fine. We are again so happy to have finally gotten her on a ‘golden road’. She is going to make a family proud and very happy to have a Ragom rescue!
