Henry 06-105

Profile

3/19/06: Meet Henry! Henry is a 1.5 year old (DOB: 8/20/04), purebred Golden Retriever. Henry is exactly what everyone pictures when you say the words "Golden Retriever." He is friendly, well-mannered, active, gentle, loving and HANDSOME. He weighs in at 81 pounds and is at a good weight -- he's just a big dog! For 1.5 years old, he is very mellow -- a nice feature given his large size. Henry was an only dog at his previous home, but he gets along famously with our dogs and cats. We brought our resident Golden along when we picked up Henry, and like two peas in a pod they jumped into the backseat of the car and were fast friends. Although Henry did not live with children, he loves kids and interacted with them on a regular basis.

The good news is that when we went out to dinner last night, Henry confirmed he can be trusted with free roam of the house. The bad news is he was supposed to be baby-gated in the front room. He is used to having free roam in his previous home, so I guess he was just trying to tell us that he is a big boy who can be trusted alone.

Henry LOVES to be outside (far longer than any sane human would enjoy during a Minnesota winter) - so his ideal home will have a safe place for him to explore and would be with a family who will spend a lot of time outside with him year-round.

Henry is a special boy who could go to a forever home with or without other dogs of any size, with or without kids and with or without cats. This makes him a hot commodity. We trust that Henry will give us the secret sign when he has found the family he wants to call his own. If you think you might be "the one" and you are an approved applicant, please contact placementatragom [dot] org.

Henry has settled into his foster home. I always know that the dogs are feeling at ease when they feel free to be naughty -- this afternoon Henry greeted me at the door with two paws on my shoulders! We went to play with another former RAGOM dog today -- Albert 05-404. Henry was a great house guest and charmed Albert's owner the same way he charms everyone he meets. We also got a chance to check out Henry with a Gentle Leader -- what a gentleman! When we got home from the play date, Henry and Bishop ran into the yard to try and scrape the Gentle Leaders off their noses. Never mind that I was standing there, trying to call the boys over to take them off. I had to snap a picture before going out to them and releasing them from their "misery."

Henry is a little shy when meeting new people, but a great couple has come to visit him two times and everyone is in agreement that they are the ones for him. They are smitten with Henry and after they left he gave me the secret sign that he had found his family. Fosters know the look -- when the foster dog gives you sad eyes and wonders why their forever family had to leave them behind? Fortunately for Henry, he only has to "tough it out" here until Friday afternoon when he will go home with his new mom and dad!
