This cutie patootie is Hogan 07-233 (not to be confused with Hogan 07-197 of the North Dakota puppy mill bunch). This Hogan comes to us from a family who could no longer keep him because of allergies.
Hogan is a neutered male purebred Golden Retriever—a red dawg with gold-blond highlights that would make a Beach Boy proud. Weighing an estimated 90 pounds, Hogan is a hunka hunka dog with a broad chest and muscular hindquarters. And because he spent the winter outside, he's got a thick, almost cottony coat and shaggy ears that are begging for a trim.
At just over one year old, Hogan has the body of an adult, but he's still very much a puppy in the head. He's also a dominant boy who likes to wrestle nonstop with my three-year-old male Golden, Chaz. Between the two of them, there's about 170 lbs of Golden Retriever slamming into the walls around here.
Hogan has attended some puppy obedience classes and knows "Sit," "Down" and "Come." He seems to be housebroken—no accidents so far—and he likes riding in a car. A seatbelt harness is helping him learn that he can't climb into the front seat. We're still working on his manners with the resident cats.
Because he's young and boisterous and big and strong, Hogan should not go to a home with small children. He has been trained to an electric fence, but has been known to break through it to chase after deer.
Hogan would like to go to a forever home with someone who will spend lots of time with him. He'd like to run off-leash at the dog park every day. He'd like to go for long walks and swim in the lakes. He'd like to meet more new dogs and people, because he's an outgoing, social boy and there's a whole world of experiences waiting for him.
Most of all, he'd like someone to bond with—someone who will dote on him while continuing to train and mold him into a superior model of Golden Retrieverness.
One more thing… Hogan is telling me to say that he'd really like to sleep on the bed at his forever home. He doesn't get why Chaz can sleep on the bed and he can't—for that matter, why Chaz can run off-leash at the dog park and he can't. He's saying that the sooner he can be with his forever family, the happier he'll be.
Hogan will be at Chuck and Don's in Bloomington this Saturday. Come meet this handsome young wooly bear!

Hogan (right) and Chaz compete to see who's the fearsome-est.
Hogan laughs as he sees the older dog go all belly up for him.
