Holly arrived this afternoon at 3 p.m. It is now 6 p.m. She has settled in nicely and is currently crashed on the bed in the computer room where I am typing. She met the crew that is here and did well in meeting two snarky dogs. My old guy generally gives newcomers quite a bit of guff, but he sniffed Holly and walked away. A standard poodle that tends to be the snarkiest of all tried to pick a fight but Holly walked away and that was it. She also gets along fine with my three-year-old wild man. So, Holly can stay here until we find her a new permanent home.Holly is a four year old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix. The surrendering owner says she weighs 68 pounds. I'll know the exact weight later this week after we visit the vet. She is very blond and has had an extreme haircut so looks more like a lab than anything else. So far she is the perfect dog. She was raised from puppyhood by the family that had to sadly surrender her after the city found out they had too many resident dogs. She is supposedly good with dogs, cats, kids...and so far she has proven the dog and cat issue to be true. I'll write more later in the week.

Holly came last Sunday, today is Saturday so she's been here almost one week. I've learned much about her that you will find interesting.
 
1. She is not a runner as she flipped open my back gate and took herself on a walk-about the first night she was here. She only went to my neighbors house before I coralled her and she came back. It was after 10 p.m. and she almost gave me heart failure...the other three dogs looked at her like she was nuts and nobody followed her. I had nightmares of searching for a white dog on a snow covered night in a busy part of St. Paul....
 
2. She does not like crates, even big wire ones...she barks and scrapes her nose until you let her out. However, she does not break out of them.
 
3. She can jump a babygate, so don't bother using one. Once I realized she did not like crates, I tried gating her in a spare bedroom when I left....I came home and she met me at the door and the gate was still in place. Another time I tried, she jumped the gate before I had even left. So now she has free roam of the main floor.
 
4. She gets along with all the dogs she has met, although she isn't very good at sharing her bones with the other dogs.
 
5. She ignores cats...even cats that spit and hiss in her face.
 
6. She is in good health, weighs 64 pounds and is up-to-date with her shots and has a microchip. Her heartworm test was negative and her fecal was clean.
 
7. She pulls like a train locomotive when using a flat collar...a gentle leader is a must!
 
8. She rides nicely in the car and has not ever tried to jump from the back of the SUV into the seats.
 
9. She is housebroken and has been alone for several full work days, although they always got a break at mid day.
 
10. She starts out sleeping in the human's bed, but so far, has always ended up on the floor by her own choice.
 
11. She does stairs without any issues.
 
12. She will countersurf and she's tall enough that nothing is safe even if it's tucked back.
 
13. She ignores the pet rabbit even when the rabbit's out of her cage.
 
14. She eats slowly and takes treats gently.
 
15. I'm sure there are more...I'll think of them as soon as I hit "send."
