Hudson 10-345

Profile

Hi my name is Hudson. I am a 2 ½ year old neutered male Golden Retriever. My previous family developed severe allergies to me so now I am in RAGOM’s care waiting on my forever family. I am a petite boy weighing in at 49lbs. and am a beautiful deep golden color. I went to the vet on Monday and got updated on my shots and my heartworm check was negative. I do have some seasonal allergies that will need to be treated with Benadryl when allergy season is at its worst but since winter is upon us and he hasn’t been itching much the vet said she didn’t think there was any need to do anything right now.

I am completely house trained and love riding in the car. I am getting along well with the girls (dogs) in the house but just need slow introductions with new dogs as I tend to get a little nervous at first. FM caught me playing with my foster sister the second day I got here so I have I warmed up to everyone quickly. I am also living with two cats right now which I haven’t been around in the past so I am very interested in them right now. I just want to play with them, but apparently they are not interested in that so FM is working on redirecting me when I decide I want to play with them. Over the past few days he has made a lot of progress and is getting better about leaving them alone.

Hudson really likes to play with toys. His favorite here is a stuffed soccer ball that squeaks that he loves to play fetch with. He has some interest in playing fetch with a tennis ball but isn’t overly excited about it. He also likes to chew nylabones and cuddle on the couch in his free time. He is not big into sharing his toys with the other dogs and will growl when they try to take a toy from them though he has no problem with people taking toys from him or being around his food bowl. He is very sweet, has a medium activity level and is slightly shy but warms up very quickly. He loves being around his people and wants to be with you in the same room at all times.

Hudson doesn’t have  any major anxieties such as storm or separation anxiety but he doesn’t like the noise of garbage trucks or buses. He does bark but usually only when someone comes to the door or walks by or house. He walks really well on a leash for a young dog and knows sit and come. He would make a good jogging partner for someone and is just an all around great guy. More updates to come once we get to know this guy even better.

Hudson is doing so well with us. He is getting along great with our three dogs and is doing so much better ignoring the cats. He is completely comfortable in our home and is ready and waiting for that special family to come along and pick him up. Here is everything you need to know about Hudson.

* Hudson gets along well with other dogs as long as he gets slow introductions. He is very playful after getting to know them and plays every day with the other Golden and the Dane that is here.

* He is now ignoring the cats about 90% of the time. Once the newness wore off he is no longer interested in them.

* He is a great car rider and likes to go with you.

* He is completely housetrained and has not had an accident since he has been here. His past owners said that he could hold it up to 12 hours though the longest he has been alone here is 7-8 and he has no problems.

* He is crate trained as long as he gets a treat to go in there but he is also good with free roam. We have been leaving him out with his foster sister Dutchess and he has had zero issues. He has been left alone with free roam for about 7 ½ hours.

* He is a Velcro boy and loves being around his people. He follows you around the house and likes to cuddle with you on the couch if you will allow it.

* He sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed but would love it if someone would let him sleep with them. He crawls up in bed with me when my husband leaves for work.

* He knows basic commands, sit, down, wait, come. He is very well behaved and does pretty well on a leash. He pulls a little but does not pull hard.

* He likes to play with squeaky toys, nylabones, rope toys, and anything else that he is allowed to play with. His favorite games are fetching his stuffed toy and playing tug.

* He “smiles” when he meets new people which is a very unique characteristic.

* He does have some food aggression and will growl when you touch him while he is eating. As long as he gets to eat in peace he is completely fine. He has also been taught to sit and wait while the bowl is being put down so he is not pushy about getting fed.

* He likes to carry socks around in his mouth but does not chew on them, he just likes to hold them in his mouth.

* He is an active dog who would love it if someone would take him for long walks or daily jogs.

* He does have a tendency to put his paws up on the counters periodically but hasn’t had any opportunities to take things off the counters so his new family will have to continue to reinforce that his paws need to stay off.

* He lived with children ages 7 and 13 in his past home and his previous owners said he is great with children of all ages.
