Jack-Jack is settling into our home and doing great! Her energy level has really increased and I even saw her bound across the yard with that happy Golden gait. She is really starting to show her personality. I have noticed that she is carrying her head a little higher and is gaining confidence each day. She is also starting to take notice of the other golden in the house. They haven’t started to play yet but there has been some interaction that leads me to believe Jackie would do well in a house that has another dog. Once she figures out how to act like a dog and how to do dog things, I think they will be good friends. The guarding of the toys has stopped. And the two dogs are learning their boundaries. Jackie just needed some time to feel comfortable in her new surroundings.
She made a trip to the vet on Monday to get a lump under her spay incision checked out. The doc said she was likely having a reaction to the sutures and put her on antibiotics. The swelling has already decreased. She takes the pills without any trouble. Since they are capsules, I push them to the back of her throat right before I set her food down. It doesn’t seem to phase her a bit. We are still cleaning and medicating her ears twice a day. It seems to be a slow process to get them cleared up. I can only imagine what they were like when the previous FM took her in!
Her ride in the car went fine. She can’t get into my vehicle on her own - it’s an SUV and sits pretty high off the ground. She would do fine with a car, or something to help her get in. We are still working on building up her muscles, so in time, she might be able to jump in on her own.
She seems to enjoy our nightly walks. She has even been keeping up better, instead of lagging behind. She walks nicely with just her collar and will follow my lead with some occasional gentle pressure. The only time she is a little hard to handle is when people stop to pet her. It seems she can’t get close to them fast enough. She loves people!!
She seems to have some mild storm anxiety and this usually shows as general nervousness and scratching in her crate. There was no destruction, however, so it's very manageable.
Jackie’s favorite thing in the world seems to be rolling in the wet grass!! She likes to roll in the grass in general, but if it is wet, she will roll and squirm on her back forever. Heaven!
She is ready to find a place she can call home – forever! So, if you like to take walks, you’ve got some wet grass, another dog and a fairly quite household, Jackie will fit right in!
