I was God blessed to have adopted Jackson from RAGOM in December of 2009. That was when my life changed.

When I went to meet him and bring him home from his foster mom in Minneapolis, MN, I pulled up and thought “wow that’s a big dog”!! As I greeted him, he was so shy and scared. I fell in love with him from the moment I set eyes on him. This confirmed to me that love at first sight is real.

I laid in the back of our SUV with him on the long drive back to Brandon, SD where we live. I petted him and talked to him for four hours in the truck on the way home. I often wonder if he thought “what’d I get myself into?”  LOL!

Each day we grew closer. He loved all my family but I was his “person”. He went everywhere with me. He was my rock through my husband’s passing. He really has been my rock every day since I brought him home.

Words cannot describe the loss I feel right now. I am trying to stay focused on the blessings that I have been given with Jackson in my life for all of these years. He was seriously the best dog in the world. I know everyone says that and I’m sure they are right. Jackson was for sure the best dog for me.

Jackson passed away last night. He had cancer. It was a fairly fast disease and I am blessed to be self employed and got to spend the last week at home just loving on him.

Yesterday as I was on the floor with him crying he put his paw over my hand. Again, he was my rock, even at the end of his life.

I have donated $2000 in memory of Jackson and the beautiful soul that he was. I am incredibly thankful for being the person who received the gift of his love. His kind and gentle soul will stay in my heart forever.

Thank you RAGOM for the work you do.  The time, money and commitment to these beautiful dogs is incredible. I wouldn’t have found my best friend without you.

From Jackson's forever family...

Our lives were blessed with Jackson on December 19th, 2008. My best friend, Lucy, our 12 yr. old Golden passed away on September 2, 2008 and our home was terribly empty.

With concern of getting another dog too soon I went on the Ragom website to sponsor a new friend in memory of Lucy. That new friend was Jackson. After my sponsorship I was compelled to get involved in the adoption process. During that time Jackson was still available and I knew it was by God’s hand that we would be together.

Jackson is a gorgeous 1 yr. old male who was very timid and shy. He had no “people skills” but loved other dogs. He’s still working on his people skills but is progressing quite nicely. He goes to work with his mom everyday and has a big yard and two cats to play with.

Although his mom is his “favorite dog”, he is getting closer to dad and the kids. He has graduated obedience school with flying colors showing that he is not only good looking but also very smart.

Jackson not only healed my broken heart, he filled our home once again with the “dog love” we were missing.

Thank you Ragom for bringing us together.

It is with sadness and joy that Jackson has been adopted. He will be greatly missed by FM &FD and resident golden Timber. She keeps looking for Jackson they played so well together. We had the privilege of having Jackson for just 5 short weeks. He came to us a very scared puppy that wouldn't make eye contact and didn't want to come to humans. But when he left us he was all about wanting to be petted by us and everyone else that came over . Its funny how dogs can change when they are shown love & kindness. It makes me very happy to see that he learned to trust us in such a short amount of time.

The W family drove 4 1/2 hours to meet Jackson on Saturday and fell in love with him just like we did. He will be loved & spoiled too. Jackson will have 29 acres to play on and go for boat rides . Jackson will hardly ever be alone as she will take him to work with her every day and they take their animals everywhere.

Jackson will have a Mom & Dad & 2 Kids to play with also 2 cats. He will have other dogs to play with as they have a number of friends and family that have dogs. He will go to obedience classes he will learn quickly because he is a very smart dog.

Jackson went to his forever home on Saturday. We will miss him . They promised to send lots of updates & pictures. This will be a very nice Christmas for everyone. Foster Mom & Resident dog Timber were invited to visit but I think we will wait until summer.

Jackson you will lead the golden life that was meant for you.

Love & kisses to our special boy Jackson see you soon.

Love Foster Mom

Jackson has been with us 3 weeks now and has come to fit in wonderfully just like he's part of the family. He is  coming to everyone now for attention because he sees Timber getting attention and he wants some too. He continues to be more comfortable learning new things. They were outside in the snow playing & running around eating snow. It was so cute to see Jackson becoming more of a happy golden pup his tail wags more. Don't let the puppy faze scare you. He has the energy of a puppy but settles down very nicely after playing to take a long nap. Jackson has gained 6 pounds in 3 weeks. He should be between 75-80 lbs the vet said, he is now at 71 lbs. He is in very good health. He is on a lamb & rice dog food which is suppose to be good for golden's. His coat is looking nicer than when I got him - he has the shorter blonde coat which is nice, he doesn't really shed. Timber sheds enough for 3. We have the stairs mastered now, he runs up and down them just like the resident golden Timber. We are still working on the walking with a leash. He doesn't need the gentle leader as he stays close to you but he does walk all over the place. We continue practicing but it's hard walking 2 golden's at the same time so for now I will walk them separately.

Jackson is becoming a more confident dog in just the short time we have had him. I really feel he is learning to be a true golden as he has the personality that fits. He has continued to open his heart to us more each day. He does like to bark when someone comes close to the house but that's ok because that's what dogs do. He quits when you tell him no bark. He is learning his name now which helps. I am continuing to work with stay sit come. I can't expect miracles in 3 weeks. We are still forming a bond. If you would like a young blonde PB golden this boy is for you. Jackson is sleeping as I do his update. He likes to be near you but doesn't demand allot of attention.

I'm a handsome boy!

Jackson continues to open up more each day. He has been with us 2 weeks now  and is fitting in so well. He learns alot from our resident dog Timber. We still haven't mastered the stairs yet but he will come around. He is a young playful pup but settles down nicely after playing with Timber. Jackson likes attention but is not a Velcro dog. He is getting more comfortable with us and our routines. Jackson has free roam of the house but you need to keep a few things picked up like the remote control for the TV. He tried to chew on it the other day, grabs your shoes and carries them away. The good thing is he lets you take them away without a problem.

Last night I gave both dogs rawhides and neither one tried to get the other ones.

Jackson is a wonderful dog to foster. At first I was a little afraid because he seemed to be afraid of humans and loud noises  and that wasn't what I was used to in the dogs that I have fostered, but now he is fine and seems to enjoy humans alot more although dogs are his favorite play mates.  It brings tears to my eyes to see how much he has changed in these 2 weeks and now I see why other fosters say you need another dog for them to learn from when they haven't been socialized in the first year of their life. Foster dad says look out he's coming around and will be a wild man like our resident wild woman Timber. The two dogs play very nicely and burn off energy and then they rest.

So I will recap what Jackson needs in his forever home:

  1. Another dog to learn from and to play with.
  2. A fenced yard.
  3. A family that has patience to help him continue to feel more comfortable with humans.
  4. Obedience training. He is a very smart dog.
  5. A cuddle  partner.
  6. I think kids would be ok but maybe older ones like 8 and up.
  7. Cats are fine but NO bunnies.

This is what you will get in return:

A loving & loyal companion
A young pup that will cuddle and be a great  companion for your dog.
Someone that never talks back oh wait he may bark at you but will always be there for you.
Will let you pet him but not a Velcro dog.
A good walking partner but needs to learn the leash thing first.
100% housetrained.
Doesn't beg at the table but will try and see what's up there.

If you are interested in meeting this blonde beauty Jackson let your placement advisor know or contact placementatragom [dot] org.

In the meantime while I wait for my forever family to come along I will hang out with Timber & FM &FD. I am treated like a king here and Timber a princess.

Love Jackson

It's time to romp!  Play with me Timber.

All played out, it's nap time!  (Jackson on the right, Timber on the left)

Foster Mom says I can do my own update today because she's busy making cookies. I had a great time at Petsmart yesterday.  I saw allot of fur friends and humans. I really need to have a fur brother or sister to play with, cats are good too. Foster Mom thought I would be scared of so much noise but I fooled her - I was just fine. I came home and played with  the resident dog Timber. Then I took a long nap. I sleep all night next to FM & FD on the floor by the bed with Timber. She tries  to get me to play at 3 am . Foster mom thinks  we need to go out so she gets up and lets us out, we potty and then want to play. Foster mom says no go back to sleep we play a bit and then go back to sleep. I think Timber has them fooled but they're getting smarter cause we hold it all day when foster mom & dad are at work. It's Timber's fault, she has way too much energy. I am a puppy but I know night time is for sleeping.  Ha ha Timber. I like to get Timber's Frisbee before her because then she chases me to get it. I think she has a crush on me because I'm a blonde haired boy. I really learn  from Timber hopefully not her bad habits FM  says. I like to be outside. I roll around in the grass & mud and get dirty. Foster mom wants to give me a bath but she needs to wait another week for my neuter to heal. The vet says I gained 3 lbs this week don't know where though. Well I better let foster mom have her computer back.

If you would like to meet me let your placement advisor know or contact placementatragom [dot] org .

Love Jackson

Original Initial Bio:

I would like to welcome Jackson into the RAGOM family. He will be fostered in Richfield. I picked up Jackson Friday afternoon.

I would like to tell you he is one good looking dog. The owners bathed him and brought him all up to date on shots before I picked him up. The only thing I have to do is get him neutered on Monday 11/10/08.

Jackson is a 1 year old PB Golden Retriever, very blonde, 65 Lbs, needs to gain about 10lbs - we are working on that. He gets 6 cups of food a day. He is shy with humans but does very well with dogs and cats.

He is crate trained and house trained also. No accidents in 3 days since I picked him up. Likes to follow my resident dog Timber around, goes in and out with her. Doesn’t really know steps so we are working on that. Timber runs up and Jackson starts 3 steps and stops and whines. So we will work on that this week. Takes food very nicely from your hands. Doesn’t really know what table food is. Eats his food very quickly so I think he always was trying to make sure he got to eat. We will work with walking on a leash this week also.

He is settling in very nice with our Resident Golden Timber, he is learning from her and I hope she learns from him also.

Jackson is my 8th foster and he will be a very special one because we take for granted that all dogs know how to not be afraid of humans. It is so rewarding to see him come up to FM & FD after just a couple of days to get pets and ear scratches.

The first day he paced and whined a lot. But the 2nd day he was more relaxed. He actually laid down with all of us on his rug and slept and just relaxed which was really nice to see that he was getting comfortable with us. This is so rewarding to see. I can’t wait to see what the next week will be like for him. Keep watching to see how he opens up to our family. Could he be the one dog that’s right for you?

Jackson sleeps all night after about 5-10 minutes of whining and then settles down for the night. He would probably do just fine without his crate but since I have an active 2 year old female no would get any sleep.

So Timber sleeps upstairs and Jackson sleeps in his crate in his own bedroom. In a few days we will let him sleep without his crate and see how he does.

Jackson needs to learn the normal noises. He is ok with the dishwasher. He was looking at the TV and the sounds but is ok with that now. He is getting used to the airplanes because we are near the airport. We continue to introduce him to all kinds of noises so he can get used to them.

Here is what we feel Jackson needs in his forever home, but could change as we get to know him more.

  1. Another dog to learn from and gain confidence. Cats are good too.
  2. Patience to help him adjust to new noises and surroundings.
  3. Obedience training. Doesn’t know commands; we are working on come, stay, down, and sit but will take some time - he is very smart and wants to please.
  4. Lots of petting time to make him more confident with humans
  5. A fenced yard
  6. Likes to chew so needs lots of chewing toys since he is still a puppy.

More to come on Jackson after his neuter. Jackson will make a wonderful pet and companion to the right family.
