Jake 07-059

Profile

2/15/07: Jake arrived here today all fluffy and beautiful thanks to a wonderful RAGOM volunteer who rescued him, gave him a bath, and cut out his mats. He is 2-3 years old and weighs 77 lbs. He is big and reddish golden, neutered, looks to be in good health but does have a raging ear infection; the ear is so swollen that the skin is split. He has been doing great at my house: gets along with other dogs and cats, loves the kids. He likes riding the in car, sleeps in a crate, and respects baby-gates. Loves chasing a raquetball and carrying stuffed animals around in his mouth. I took him on a long walk this afternoon and he didn't pull ONCE on the leash - with no Gentle Leader on either. And he is totally housebroken (yesssssss!). He is so easy going I can't believe he's only 2 or 3 years old.

More to come on this big teddy bear as we get to know him!

It is with huge sadness that I write Jakie's final tribute. Jakie has crossed the bridge. In the last few weeks we found out that our boy was hosting some pretty unwelcome guests under all that  beautiful red fur... he started losing weight, he become blind in one eye due to glaucoma and  he had cancer. We decided to take him home and love him up until he let us know it was time.   All too soon, he let us know that he was ready to be pain free and it was time for him to set off on the next part of his journey.

Jakie was the best kind of dog... he never met a person or an animal that he didn't joyously greet because he was convinced they were coming to our house to see him!  As soon as a car would pull up to the house, Jake was out the door tail wagging to say hello! He was loyal, gentle, and wise, he  (almost always) came when he was called, and was totally trustworthy off leash. He loved car rides with his dad,  conversations and swimming with Molly, hugs and kisses from Susan, pets from Heather, treats from Anita, chillin' with Kate, and chasing tennis balls with David. He was the true essence of a family dog! In addition to his human family, he is missed by Grace (Ragom Bronte 2009). Jack the cat who slept cuddled up against him every single night, and Milt the cat who still thinks he is in charge because he was here first!

Our hearts are broken, we  will miss him  terribly but know that soon the tears will turn to funny Jakie stories..all told, of course, in the "Jake voice"...

Thanks RAGOM for rescuing him, thanks to his family for their love and to all his friends for helping to make Jakie the happy dog he was!

Mostly though...Thank you Jakie...you were the best!!
