Meet the new love of my life: Jake!! Jake is an 8 1/2 year old, PB, neutered, Golden Retriever. Jake weighs 93lbs (his ideal weight is 85). He is absolutely GORGEOUS! He has a coat that could rival any show dog! I swear! His tail feathers are amazing. He is a blondie, with a little bit of a white face (my favorite senior golden trait!!).
Jake was surrendered by his family who loved him, but knew they could no longer provide what was best for him. Jake deserves the best, and we are determined to find that for him.
Jake is a total LOVE. He is about the sweetest dog in the world. Loves everyone. He "talks" to you when he decides he would like a little lovin'... it is very endearing. He is a very well trained dog. He knows all basic commands, and his recall is excellent. He gets along perfectly with my resident dogs, never so much as a lip raise. The perfect gentleman. He has never met a cat... but this dude is so sweet I can't imagine it would be a problem. He is PERFECT with kids...and loves them. We have an 8 month old baby boy and he and Jake were fast friends :) Check out the pictures :) You really cannot meet him and not fall in love. I am already head over heels.
Jake visited Dr. H last week and we have a few medical concerns. One is that Jake is urinating a lot. He has even had a couple of accidents in the house and since he is house trained we don't believe the problem is behavioral. So, the doc took a urine sample and found that it was quite diluted. Which could indicate a serious problem. The good news is his blood work report all came back normal! :) So, the vet thinks he has an irritation in the plumbing and put Jake on antibiotics for a couple weeks to clear that up. She said we should see a major improvement in a couple days if this is the cause of his frequent urination. So, we are crossing our fingers that the pills do their job and Jake will not have to undergo further testing. I will keep everyone posted as to what we find out.
The other medical concern is that Jake has cataracts in both eyes. They are causing his vision to be compromised a bit, but Jake gets around just fine. She said that they might get worse as he ages... or he may have had these for a long time and they will stay just as they are. Time will tell. It isn't a major cause for concern though, lots of older dogs get them.
Jake is a super easy and wonderful boy to have around. He just loves to be in the same room as his people. He is happiest curled up on the couch next to us relaxing. He does like to play a little bit with our golden girls, and this morning was romping in the yard, it was pretty darn cute! We are enjoying getting to know him and learning all about his needs. Stay tuned on my love story... more to come :)
