Jack is a neutered (male) 14-month, 70 lb golden mix. He has a really pretty light red coat, the most unique golden eyes, and a tad bit of black on his constantly wagging tail! He is tall and slender and a very happy young guy! He is current on all vaccinations and in perfect health. Beautiful white teeth!

We picked him up this morning and he jumped right in the back of the truck and half way thru his hour drive to our house he was up in the front seat in my daughter's lap… still thinks he is a puppy :). He met resident dog (10 yr old male German Shepherd mix) and they have been playing all day. He LOVES toys – piles them all up on his bed.

Believe it or not … he goes to the door and rings a bell to let you know he needs to go out. I also know that he goes to the door and whines as well – because I forgot to put the bell up for the first 12 hours he was here! He barks to come in – but no other time. We have a fenced in yard and he loves to run. He didn’t have one before and stayed around just fine.

A family adopted him that has a 2.5-year-old little girl. They realized within a few days that he was just too big for her – even though he was a very good boy. He doesn’t jump, he sits, shakes and walks (pulls a bit) on a leash. He has met quite a few people (all 15+) and likes everyone. What an easy guy to please! He is a great dog that I am sure will be snatched up pretty quickly.

FM has a new thing I want to tell you about that she started a week ago. She was outside working on her bird feeders while I was out with her. She said she had to go in and clean the feeders before she put more food in them. She told me she didn’t want me to run away, so she grabbed the first thing she could find and tied my leash to it. The garden hose.

Well, she was in and out several times. It probably took an hour. I was very patient cause I knew we would play when she got done. Well, the last time she went in I saw a squirrel at the neighbors and I just HAD to run after it. FM came running out because the hose was in a box that had a wind up reel and I was running and pulled ALL the hose out to the very end (I am pretty strong) and she was afraid I would pull it right off the house! Well of course I didn’t, and FM laughed and ran in to get the camera. I was across the street, in the neighbors yard, still tied to the hose. I don’t know if she got a good picture or not.

Anyway, since I like being outside as much as possible, she thinks it might be good exercise between walks for me to haul the hose around. J She finagled it so I can’t get to the street anymore. I rather like it because I can explore much further tied to it. I even hung outside this week (on the hose) when it was misting and raining lightly.

That’s it for now – hope the rain goes away soon so we can all have a nice weekend!

Not much new with Jack, he is still enjoying his two fur sisters. I clipped 08-420 Maggie’s nails too short this weekend, and sweet Jack gave her TLC all afternoon! We have been working on Jack’s barking (he’s very excited to see people, birds, dogs, etc), and he is not a total gentleman on a Gentle Leader. We have a lot of windows in our house and Jack seems to be fascinated with shadows cast by the sun. He cocks his head and stares at them! Silly boy!

Jack is still doing well and has so much fun playing with his two ladies – resident Mia and 08-420 Maggie. Jack and Maggie are Partners in Crime when it comes to abusing the backyard! Maggie is fascinated with the new sod. I would like the sod to remain horizontal and Mags prefers to have it vertical! After numerous times of relaying the same piece of sod, I look out the window and Maggie and Jack each have one end of a roll and are pulling in opposite directions. Wish I had the camera, but I was running too fast to save the sod!

Jack returned to RAGOM this week and we learned that living with small children may not be a good match for Jack. He is a strong, active puppy and will need obedience training. While I have tried to keep our kids (8 & 5) away from Jack for a few days as we learn about him and give him time to settle in, he seems to be crazy about the kids, and they love him too.

Jack tried playing with resident golden Mia the first night he arrived, although it takes her a few days to warm up and today is the first day she reciprocated.

A summary of what I have learned about Jack in the past few days:

  • He is house trained, crate trained, very gentle with treats, very playful and affectionate, loves playing with toys and wants to be with people.
  • Jack is a strong puppy and needs obedience training. We have been walking with a gentle leader and while I’m sure he has another name for it, he needs one until his leash walking improves!
  • He plays very well with other dogs (male and female)
  • Jack would love to sleep in the kids room in he had his choice but sleeps in the master bedroom and sleep through the night without making a sound.

Here are a few photo’s of Jack playing!

Wow, I had a busy few weeks. That is why I haven’t updated. Sorry. Between playing with the other dogs here for 12 days, and spending spring break with a family with 2 cats, I am tired! But, I will be ready to play outside with resident Hunter tomorrow, as it is sooo nice these days. Spring is the best. FM says she has learned more about me that she wants to share.

FM thinks I would be best in a home with no cats. I really like them and am very curious, but I scare them because I pounce when I play. I don’t bite and would never intentionally hurt them, but I am 75 pounds! I love dogs too, and like to play with them. At FM’s house I have Hunter and there are three other dogs in the houses next door that I play with when FM and FD are out in yard with us. We have a blast – so she thinks I would be good with a dog in my family (or at a neighbor’s) that likes to play.

Kids are GREAT, especially if they are a bit older. I guess older means “dog smart” -enough to know how to play with a bigger dog, and strong enough to walk me with a Gentle Leader. FM has a hard time giving a kids age because it depends on if the family knows dogs well or not. She thinks probably at least 8 or 9.

I know I love teens because they RUN with me, especially my Kelsey. She runs with me to practice for soccer - and because she likes me :). We run a mile or so each day – takes less than 20 minutes. FM walks me each day with Hunter. I take my naps next to FM or FD while they work on the computer or watch a show during the day and evening, and sleep on my bed next to FM each night.

I am very easy to please and really enjoy life. I love to be outside, camp, go to the cabin, play at the beach, in the water and ride in a car. I don’t run away or chase cars. I come when I am called. Unfortunately I was busy (okay FM was) when RAGOM had their events but I will be at the next one. I would love to meet you. And, I can’t wait to meet my forever family. Please contact RAGOM if you would like to meet me!

Happy Thursday! I decided to do my own update today, as FM has been too busy to do it. Apparently we are keeping her busy!

FM’s daughter has a one-year-old puppy (Ryder) that is staying with us while his “mom” is on spring break. I can’t tell you how much fun we are having! There are three of us for 12 whole days! From three way tug of war, to chasing each other and running till we almost drop, to going for walks (all three of us) with FM, to running crazy in the rain and mud in the backyard – then running up to FM and giving her a mud bath too. She is so great – she just laughs and brings us in one at a time for a “shower” and a TREAT! We still do the normal dog stuff, giving hugs and kisses, getting lots of pets and tummy rubs and taking lots of naps :-). At night we are so tired that we go to bed before FM! I sleep on my bed on the floor right next to her, Ryder goes in the daughter’s room on a blanket next to her bed and resident Hunter sleeps on his bed downstairs guarding us all. Yesterday we were especially tired as we played with FM’s niece and nephew (4 and 7). They liked our kisses, and we liked their tummy rubs and getting treats.

Now on to the good stuff…. what I am looking for in my forever family.

I could live with or without kids, but think it would be fun to have kids to grow up with that like to play and walk/run with me. I am tall but don’t jump on people and am very gentle. I don’t bite. I like to play with toys. I love people. I would be fine with or without a fence. I stay around the yard when people are with me. When we leave the yard I use a leash and gentle leader and walk well. I love to meet other dogs, and try to meet squirrels that run by, but because I have the gentle leader on I can’t get them. I am very well behaved for a 15-month-old puppy. FM thinks I had some obedience training. I have the run of the house and haven’t used my crate since I came back to FM – even when it is just Hunter and I. The family leaves us alone for about 3-4 hours a day. I do bark a bit at squirrels, garbage trucks and people that come to the door, but stop when I am told. I lived with cats when I was a puppy – I pretty much ignored them. I love dogs and would be fine with another dog in my forever home. I am at a perfect age to grow up with my forever family. If you would like to meet me, please contact RAGOM.

Jack was adopted by a wonderful gal last week. They hit it off perfectly. When he met her he just melted into her! They went home and tried repeatedly to get to know the resident cats and it just didn’t work out, so Jack came back to hang out with us for a bit longer. The cats had a bad experience earlier with a couple of other dogs and apparently still remember it.

Jack has learned to use the Gentle Leader and walks so well – we walk him instead of the other way around :) We went for a couple mile walk this afternoon with two other dogs and played a bit in the backyard today. He is back to his usual routine here. He has been sleeping on his bed in the bedroom and family room at night in both of our houses. He still rings his bell to go out and I still am amazed :) He uses the crate when we need to just fine.

I am also impressed by the fact that he is a bit cautious. He doesn’t jump into anything too fast. He checks things out first – which is amazing for a 15 month old puppy. He doesn’t jump on people, doesn’t run away, checks out his footing in the snow, ice and on stairs. He is a way more mellow puppy than our “crazy lab mix” puppy that will be a year old tomorrow.

He is a wonderful boy and ready to meet his forever family. Please let RAGOM know if you would like to meet Jack. What a great time to adopt a dog!
