Jazz 09-245

Profile

Let me introduce you to the newest member of the RAGOM family:  Jazz!  She came to us just a few days ago from a shelter in MN.  She was surrendered because a member of the family is serving in Iraq.  Since we've only had her a few days, we don't know much about her yet.  Let me tell you what we do know.

She is a GR mix.  She's got the cutest white stripe on her head and chest, white on her back feet, and white on the tip of her tail.  She looks like she stepped in white paint.  So cute!  She only weighs about 40 pounds and probably won't get much bigger.  If you are looking for a smaller dog, maybe Jazz is for you!

Since she is only 6 months old, she is still very much so a puppy!  Puppies are great, but they are a lot of work.  This work comes with great reward.  Housebreaking is not 100% yet, but she's doing pretty well.  She's only had one accident and that was really my fault.  She was at the door ready, I just wasn't paying attention.

Jazz already knows "sit" and "come."  We are working on "down," "leave it," and "off."  She is a bit jumpy, but she's starting to get the idea not to do that.  She is crate trained, although she doesn't particularly like it.  She respects baby gates.

She met our resident and our other foster, Clifford 09-199, without any issue.  Jazz and Clifford are fast buds.  They roll around and play bite at eat other.  This is where the "leave it" command is needed for both of them!

She is just a happy, go-lucky puppy.  She is very gentle and sweet.  She already went to the vet for her wellness exam yesterday and did great with the exception of an ear infection that we are treating.  Her ears were very dirty, so it's no wonder they got infected.  She is spayed and UTD, so after she spends at least a week with us, she's ready for adoption!

Remember, she is a puppy, so she needs to go to a family that is ready to put the time and energy into having a puppy.  If you would like to meet her and get some sweet puppy kisses, please contact your placement advisor.

Updates

Sunday, July 12, 2009

Hey, it's me - Jazz!  I just wanted to hop on this computer and send you a note real quick to say that I won't be able to talk to you for about a week.  My foster mom and dad are going on a trip so I get to stay at another RAGOM house with 3 other dogs!  One of the dogs is Brian 09-293.  He came for a sleepover to my house this past weekend and now I get to go to his house and meet his two resident siblings.  I can't wait.  This house also has a fenced in yard, so I can just explore and explore...then maybe play wrestle with my new friends.  I know Brian likes to play.  I'm putting a picture of Brian and me tugging on the green ball.  Yep, that's the green ball from my last update.  Turns out Brian accidentally popped it, but that doesn't mean we're done playing with it!  If you want to meet me, I would love it!  Just send a note to your placement advisor and they'll let us know!

Signing off until next time,
Jazzy

Sorry it's been so long.  Jazz had a wonderful 4th of July playing in the yard.  The fireworks didn't bother her a bit.  I don't even think she noticed them.  Jazz has been having a grand time playing with Clifford (09-199).  They would play wrestle all day if I let them!  I've attached a few new pictures.  Clifford and Jazz will share the water bowl together...so cute!  They share their toys together, most of the time!  They can be just like children sometimes.  One will choose a toy and the other wants it until they get it, then they don't want it anymore.  All they really want is the other NOT to have it!  All in all, they play really nice with each other.  Jazz just loves to play and she's not picky...people or dogs, it doesn't matter!

Her ear infection looks completely cleared in the right ear, but is still a little red in the left ear.  We just continue to clean them every other day and put the medicine on twice a day.  Although she doesn't really like to have her ears cleaned, she does like the cheese she gets at the end of it all!

I took her outside yesterday and put her on a long lead.  She really just wants to stay near people.  We played with a large inflatable ball.  She was hitting it with her head like it was a soccer ball or trying to catch it with her front paws.  She loved playing with it.  When my husband got home yesterday, we threw the Frisbee in the backyard.  She ran back and forth, never getting it, but she sure tried.

As far as housebreaking, she's getting better.  I'm still trying to figure out what her signal is to let me know to take her outside, but until then, I just take her out every couple hours or so.  If she's in the crate (like at night when she sleeps, or when I'm gone), she doesn't have any accidents.  You just have to watch her if she's had a lot to drink and make sure she gets to go outside a short time later.  It's been about 5 days since her last accident (knock on wood!)...so we're working on it.  She does know that the grass is where she's suppose to go.

What can I say about Jazz?  She is just your typical, happy, go-lucky puppy.  If you would like to come spend some puppy playtime to meet this sweet baby, contact your placement advisor.

It's been a week since Jazz joined our family.  She has already come a long way.  We started working on basic commands.  She came to us knowing "sit," but in the past week we have practiced "down," "come," "stay," and "leave it."  It's nice that she is starting to understand that I am in charge!  Sometimes puppies think they are in charge.  Jazz will need someone that is willing to continue the daily training.  Since she is a puppy, she could really benefit from dog obedience training.  I think with consistent training and follow thru, she will make an excellent dog for some lucky family.  Is that you?

Yesterday, we went to visit a friend and her dog.  Jazz had a blast!  She chased her new friend, Franklin, around their backyard.  We also went to the dog park today to try and get some of that puppy energy out.  She met about 7 dogs without any incident.  She loves to play with dogs.  For this reason, Jazz would be great in a house that already has a dog or she would be content as the only dog so she can get all of the attention.  Cats are still unknown, but I don't think she would hurt them.  She may be amazed by them and try to chase them!  Jazz has met kids 5 years old and up.  I don't think she would hurt children younger than 5, but she may knock them down.  She's still learning not to jump up on people.

Jazz will need some way to get her energy out.  That means she will need to chase a ball in the backyard, daily runs/walks, and/or trips to the doggy park.  Like all dogs, she would love a fenced yard, but doesn't need one - as long as she can get some exercise!

Before I sign off for this update, I have to tell you a really silly thing that Jazz LOVES to do:  She LOVES to chase fireflies!  At night, they twinkle a bit, then turn out their light.  Jazz is fascinated by them and will try to chase them and eat them.  She has a total look of bewilderment when the light goes away and she can't find it...until the next one lights up!  She could do that for hours...if I let her!

I've attached a few more pictures.  If you want to meet this gem of a puppy, contact your placement advisor.
