Jerry is such a wonderful dog. He doesn't bark unless he REALLY needs something and then his bark is very gentle. His favorite thing in the world is to be pet, rubbed, scratched, and or touched. He has plenty of energy, but I wouldn't call it boundless energy. He is a very happy dog. Very quiet and loving. My husband claims I haven't updated his page in so long because I want to keep him! He could be partially correct. Jerry would be a sweet addition to any home for years and years to come. We took him to the groomers. Jerry doesn't love water like most golden/labs. The groomers said he was fine with the bathing and nail clipping, but he really didn't like the dryer blowing on him so much. I can't say I blame him. When we picked him up the groomer said they thought he also had some Shar-Pei in him, due to his wrinkles on his face. When we were at the vet I asked her if she thought maybe Jerry was part Shar-Pei. She said, "Oh yes!" She said it almost as if I should have been able to tell it just from looking at him, not any question in her mind. So I guess Jerry is Golden/Lab/Shar-Pei mix!! He will not be a very big dog. Right now he is barely 36 pounds. His head, paws, and hips are not very big so I don't think he will get much bigger. Jerry is house trained and rarely chews on anything that isn't one of his toys. He hasn't chewed on furniture or any permanent fixtures in the house. He has chewed on items left on the floor, as that is where all his toys are. The things he has chewed on are not things he seeks out to destroy. I left my flip flops under the dining room table - where Jerry usually lays. A hair clip that was left on the floor was his only other victim. Nothing more major than that. He really is a good puppy. I often forget he is only a puppy because he behaves so well. Jerry loves to chase rabbits and squirrels out of our fenced in yard. He creeps out slowly even before his morning potty to see if there are any creatures to be evacuated from the yard. It is fun to watch him scan the yard for some thing to chase. He will need a fenced in yard because he doesn't understand that a chain ends. We were in our front yard and he was on a chain anchored into the ground. He spotted a little chipmunk. When the chipmunk ran so did Jerry. Fortunately his collar had a plastic clip. The collar broke, his tags went flying, the anchor post bent, and Jerry stopped when the chipmunk went up the drain spout from our roof. He was not hurt at all. He also didn't try to run after anything else, or run away. He is happy to be where ever we are. Jerry and our cat still enjoy each others company. There is not as much chasing as there used to be because they have both figured out their own territory and respect it - most of the time. My husbands mother came over this week and brought her Chihuahua (Missy). Jerry and the little one both enjoyed chasing each other around. We thought Missy was intimidated and scared at first, but when Jerry would turn her back she was right there behind him looking to play again. He was never too aggressive toward her and they both seemed to enjoy the game. Jerry still prefers to not be in his crate, but when we leave him alone we put him in his crate. I don't think he would do any damage to the house while we are gone, but I would rather err on the side of caution and protect him from himself in his crate. Since he only weight 36 pounds he is easy to pick up and place in his crate. Once inside he is perfectly calm. When we come home, you wouldn't think he even knew we left. He just lays calmly and waits to be let out again. Once he's out his tail is wagging so hard I think he is going to lift right off the ground. Jerry is quickly learning new commands. He has mastered sit without much training at all. He is now very comfortable riding in the car without a crate. He can ride in a crate, but again he isn't fond of getting in without assistance. Once inside he rides quite nicely. He loves meeting new animals and people. Walking on a leash is much better than it used to be. Every once in a while he will pull back, but if the leash is given some slack and Jerry is asked to continue he does so with minimum resistance. He is an incredibly sweet dog and will be a wonderful companion to anyone who is willing to love him.
