Jethro and Kirby, the sibling boys from Iowa, found their new home up in lovely northern Minnesota! They have a new canine sister, a Lab mix, who will keep them in line, and were adopted by a wonderful couple who has several adult children who also have dogs.
They will have plenty of squirrels, rabbits and deer to keep an eye on, and they will be getting tons of love from their new family! Such a great happy ending for these boys!

Jethro is just continuing to have a great time! We were hoping he’d be home for Christmas, but didn’t quite make it. There’s hope he’ll be in his new home soon. After months of no interest, he’s had a number of inquiries lately, so fingers crossed, he ‘ll find his home soon.
Jethro is definitely the more outgoing of the two brothers. He’s more adventurous and independent, but he can also be a little timid around new things. When he first got here, he never went on the couch, but now he’s developed that habit and loves to curl up on the couch, usually with another dog or two (and human!).
The other night, about 3 AM, he also climbed into the bed and curled up there and slept through the night—much better than sleeping in an unheated garage or outside! He’s a happy boy, wags his tail frequently, is curious, funny and adorable! He’s also grateful to RAGOM for his new life!

Jethro has continued to blossom the more attention and love he gets. He’s a bit of a food hog, so we’re working on his manners! He loves the fresh snow—the deep cold, not so much!
The boys met a family at the Holidazzle meet-and-greet last weekend so we’re crossing our fingers that things work out. Meanwhile, the boys continue to do so well!

The Iowa boys continue to show their distinct personalities the longer they are here. Jethro is definitely the "big brother", more adventurous, curious and bold than Kirby, but he also is timid about some things.
Jethro has been doing great! He was upgraded to overnight bedroom privileges on Thanksgiving, and has spent a couple of nights sleeping in the bedroom with the rest of the pack with NO ACCIDENTS! He's doing so well in that regard. He loves going out for squirrel patrol first thing in the morning, and also has to check out the yard.
He has also shown how much he loves affection when there are guests in the house. Last night, he totally attached himself to a woman who had stopped by. Jethro just sat in front of her and soaked up all of the pets and affection he could get! It was so sweet!
There's been almost no snark from him recently EXCEPT on occasion when there is food around. I usually feed them in their side by side crates. If Kirby doesn't finish his food, and they are still in the crates with the food dishes, when a resident dog walks by, Jethro will let out a growl.
I think he has some minor resource guarding issues, so taking care with food, bones or other high value items is a good idea. Sometimes he doesn't care at all--but if there is food in Kirby's dish, it's best put away as soon as they are done eating.
I should be clear that I don't see any of the snark as aggressive; it always stops as soon as they are given a correction. And it seems to be related to guarding (the food, the entryway of house, etc). And it also seems to be diminishing the longer they are here and the more they trust their circumstances.
Jethro has also become such a sweetheart. He LOVES people, he LOVES pets. This week, for the first time, I saw him playing in the show with one of the residents, which was encouraging. Up til now, Kirby and Jethro have played together, and the residents have played together, but only now was there some crossover, which was great.
It seems that they are settling in and realizing that they will have a home, and they are blossoming!

Mr. Long and Lanky is doing just fine. The two brothers have settled in here nicely and their personalities are really coming out. Jethro is the more active of the two; curious, exploring, wanting to know what's going on. Kirby is kind of a Velcro dog, sticking to you whenever he can; Jethro will explore, but also, when he comes to check in, just LOVES to get pets!
I think these poor guys went without much attention for a long time, so now they are soaking it up! Jethro will jump on the bed and curl up, but also will just retire to his kennel when he wants to nap.
Both of the boys are crazy for squirrels, and in the morning when they are let outside, there's usually an ANGUISHED yelp as they see a squirrel high in the tree, escaping them. They will often play with each other, and today, for the first time, I noticed that they were actually playing with the resident dogs! Big step!
Like Kirby, Jethro just LOVES getting pets and will sit or stand as long as you'll pet him. He's a pretty happy boy and seems to enjoy having a family, and a home to sleep in!

The Iowa brothers had to go to boarding for a few days while foster mom went out of town for work. They came back freshly bathed and fluffy, and also much calmer. They likely had a great time with the other dogs. There’s been no snarking at the resident dogs, no accidents in the house—they’re very mellow and sweet.
Jethro is super mellow after his spa vacation. We’ll see how long that lasts! He’s been super sweet, loves chewing on his bone and hanging out in his kennel. He must have gotten tired out with all of his social activity at the spa!
He’s been doing great with the resident dogs and seems happy to be back in a home. Maybe he needs to come to yours?
Ideally, he needs a home with a fenced yard, people who will make him part of the family by taking him for walks, rides and other adventures. He does fine with kids, cats, and (with slow introductions) other dogs. After not being part of a family for who knows how long, this little guy is blossoming!
If you’re looking for double the fun and double the love, you gotta meet these Iowa boys!

Jethro continues to reveal more of his personality as he settles in here. He’s still the more adventurous of the pair and is the leader of their pack. He loves to investigate and is curious about everything. But he’s also very loving and can’t get enough pets. And, at 70 lbs, he sometimes thinks he’s a lap dog!
He discovered the toy box the other day and spent the afternoon dragging out each toy and bone, and was just delighted! He rarely has any snark with the residents—he leaves that to little brother Kirby, who is doing much better on that front. He’s super sweet, and will just stare at you while you’re petting him, begging you not to stop.
Jethro takes treats nicely, goes in the kennel (most of the time) when told, and loves it there. He’s a bit of a food hound, very curious when foster mom is eating something and so willing to help out.
Still occasionally has accidents in the house—more like marking than anything else, but improving. He really wants his furever home and someone he can be devoted to! He’s super sweet!
Jethro and Kirby, but Jethro just spotted a squirrel outside!
Jethro can’t get enough pets and Ozzie is pouting in the background.
Ordered one of these “calming beds”, which had mostly gone untouched until Jethro decided he liked it.
Happy boy! (Probably taken after one of his jailbreaks.....)

Jethro and Kirby are sort of different dogs since they arrived three weeks ago. They were so nervous, scared and wild. They’ve settled down quite a bit; they’re still a little rambunctious, but given that they were outside dogs 24/7 and strays for who-knows-how-long, they’ve adapted well to indoor life.
Jethro is kind of the leader of the two. He’s a little more adventurous than Kirby but has become very attached in these three weeks. He’ll sit and soak up any pets you’ll give him, just staring at you with his gorgeous eyes the whole time.
Jethro is funny, alert, and ready for fun, but will also just crash and mellow out if I’m working or watching TV. He’s occasionally snarky with my two males but that is lessening and usually happens if there’s some transition going on—if the resident dogs are going out or coming in, or if Jethro’s in his kennel and the residents come indoors and romp past his kennel.
The snarkiness is lessening as time goes on, and only happens occasionally—other times, all four dogs will be sleeping next to each other. They don’t quite play together yet, but it’s working it’s way towards that!
Jethro is a lover and can’t get enough attention. He’s a super sweet guy, as is brother Kirby! They want a home badly!

Jethro is the explorer of the two brothers—super curious, always checking things out. He’s tall, and leggy and lean. And smart. Like Kirby, he can’t get enough pets! I think these two haven’t been in a home for awhile, so they are just soaking it up! It’s funny to watch them seem to discover things—the first night here, they were fascinated by the TV!
Jethro seems to be the alpha of the two, and he kind of wrestles for the alpha position with the resident dogs, but that’s settling down a bit. Jethro has had some problems marking in the house but we’re working on that. When he’s up and exploring, he’s really active, but when he crashes, he’s adorable. He curls up in a little ball, or stretches out in his kennel and snoozes away!
Both of them do fine overnight in their kennels, they eat well, take their treats politely and are very sweet. The longer they are here, the more they are settling in and their personalities are coming out. Before they came into RAGOM, they were kept outside 24/7, so it’s kind of sweet to watch them become indoor dogs and members of the family. Maybe they should join your family?

Jethro and Kirby are 8-year-old bonded siblings who were picked up as strays in Iowa. The shelter contacted their owners, who said they didn't want them back. They have been together their entire lives and are anxious when separated. Until coming into RAGOM, they were kept outside 24/7.
They have been here for a week. It's clear that they haven't been in a home for a while. They have settled in pretty well, and are less anxious than they were upon their arrival. The have had baths and been to the vet and they are in good health. They settle into their kennels nicely, they eat well, take treats politely, and they are very sweet. They kennel over night with no problem.
They have done okay with the resident dogs, although with four male dogs, they can be a little snarky on occasion--that seems to be reducing each day, but we've consciously been letting them in and out in shifts, so we can avoid any issues. Most of the time, all four guys do just fine.
And the cat. Jethro and Kirby were a little interested in the cat, but not enough for it to be an issue. They are not totally housebroken, but I let them out frequently and they seem to be getting the point.
Jethro is taller, leggier, more reddish in color, and seems to be the leader. He's super cute, with funny little ears that almost point in opposite directions when alert. He also LOVES pets, loves being talked to, and is very sweet. He's super smart and with some training, he's going to be a great dog.
Kirby is the smaller of the two, fluffier, more gold in color, and more submissive than Jethro. He's super sweet and can't get enough attention. He LOVES pets and being talked to. He also loves to please, and I think he'll be a quick learner.
They are escape artists, so they definitely require a fence. They were runners in their previous home, which is a reason why the owner didn't want them back. They have had a couple of escapades here; on the day they arrived, Kirby found a hole in the fence and wiggled his little self out.
This afternoon, they dug a hole under the fence and went for a joyride around the neighborhood. They came from a rural area, so being in the city is a whole new thing for them. They are both very funny, very sweet and thrive on attention. They are eager to please, and with some time, training and love, they are going to be great dogs!
