We are so blessed to have Jethro with us in his furever home! It’s been nearly 6 months since we adopted this sweet, sassy, playful old boy, and what an absolute joy it has been! Jethro is adapting very well. It’s so fun to watch the change in his level of comfort from month to month.
Just in the last month, he has become more independent searching out the best places to take a nap without having to be velcroed to me or my husband (well, mostly me). He is always watching out for both of us and we him! We’ve all become very familiar with each other’s personalities and habits, and we work together to maintain a good routine that’s full of lots of fun and exercise, in addition to the mandatory daily naps and rests on every surface in his home while we’re working.
Jethro turned 11 in December, but you would never know it by his level of activity and interest! Jeth enjoys a 2 mile daily walk and LOVES to meet other dogs and humans along the way.
He’s a little confused about why everyone doesn’t want to stop and say hi to him. Sometimes he’ll turn and look at me as if to say, “Didn’t they SEE me? I’m incredibly handsome and friendly.” And the boys (Jethro and my husband) can’t get enough of playing ball inside and outside!
Because he’s a “super chewer” we stick to the indestructible toys (he destroys stuffed ones), and thanks to his Auntie and Uncle, he has plenty of them! His favorite right now is a nice big green toad.
We like to call him Inspector Jethro (emphasized like Clouseau), not only is he curious about EVERYTHING around him, inspecting objects, doorways, shelves, etc., and giving them a little push with his nose every now and again (his sassy side), he makes us laugh because the Inspector Jethro “once-over” can be VERY thorough and gets quite lengthy at times (insert Jeopardy theme here!).
Oh yes, how could we forget – food! Jeth hops around like a bucking bronco when it’s breakfast or dinner time, and he’s always interested in anything that’s going on in the kitchen or the cupboard where his treats are kept. He’s very food motivated and enjoys his meals.
He’s maintaining a svelte 85 and his Dr. said he’s in great shape. He still takes meds for hypothyroid and seizures, but he’s never had an incident in our care. Jethro is in excellent health.
The three of us love to hang out together and have not been apart due to the pandemic. Jethro is not shy about offering and asking for attention (that goes both ways…) and we always oblige!
He still has that habit of pawing around your neck and head, so you have to be alert so he doesn’t “tick your jugular” (as my husband says) because he’s strong. Changing that behavior is still a work in progress.
Our favorite activities to do together are watching sports/tv while eating popcorn or chewing a bone, talking walks, napping, running any errand in the car (bonus treats when we drive thru establishments that cater to pups!), going for car rides up north to the cabin where we get to go on nature hikes, play in the woods and walk on the frozen lake (well, not anymore, swimming is next!) and of course hugs and pets and kisses all of the times in between.
We feel so incredibly happy to be a family with Jethro and are honored to be sharing life with him. The photos include: a walk in the park where we sat in a giant clam, a pose for the Christmas card, and a cherished nap. It’s the golden life, for sure! Jethro rocks!

Jethro has found the perfect forever family! I know that he will have more walks, play, and pets than he could ever want!

Jethro was surrendered to RAGOM when his owner passed away suddenly. It is obvious that Jethro was well loved and simply needs a new home that will welcome a laid-back Velcro dog.
Jethro is a 10-year-old purebred Golden. He is house trained with no accidents, has free roam when we are gone, no counter surfing or other destructive behaviors. He has gotten along well with all dogs he has met and his foster sister Zeeva 19-250.
Jethro enjoys car rides and will happily jump in the truck for a chance to get out on the road. Jethro walks well on a leash, providing a squirrel does not cross the road in front of us. Jethro will voice alert barks if he feels someone is on the property or at the door. It is not excessive but an apartment or condo would not work for him.
Upon coming into RAGOM, Jethro was brought up to date on all vaccinations, had a teeth cleaning, and had a benign growth removed from his left back knee. Jethro takes medication twice daily for thyroid issues and mild seizures. He does not like taking pills so we use pill pockets to hide them.
Jethro loves to play with stuffed toys and balls. For a 10-year-old he has lots of ‘play’ left in him. The stuffed toys only last a couple weeks but he really enjoys games of fetch with them. He bats them around the floor or prances around with them in his mouth like a prize. He likes to greet us with one in his mouth at the door.
Jethro is definitely a Velcro dog and follows Foster Mom everywhere. Even when I take a shower, he patiently lays on our bed waiting for me to come back out. At night he sleeps on the bedroom floor, a dog bed, or in an open crate. Wherever he is, he tends to like making a nest with blankets. In the morning he is happy to be invited up in our bed for a quick morning hello.
Like most Goldens Jethro loves pets and hugs. He has a tendency to paw us or jump up a bit when he wants attention. We respond to that behavior with “Down” and then pet him when he has four paws on the floor, but it is still a work in progress. I think this is a 10-year-old habit that will be difficult to break totally.
Jethro will provide his new family with lots of love and fun play. He is an easy-going guy and should settle in easily as he did in our home. Jethro will be ready for a forever home in a couple weeks when we are sure the phenobarbital dosage is appropriate.
If you are interested in him, we would love to tell you more about him and learn about your family. Please see the information below about how to apply.
