Introducing the prettiest girl on the block - 2-year-old, drop-dead gorgeous Miss Joyce. She came into RAGOM's care after living her life in a puppy mill. She has had litters of puppies, but NO MORE. She was spayed on Friday, and is never going to be momma again. She seems like a baby herself. I bet she was a very good momma. She and I were watching Animal Planet together, and there was a story about puppies. She heard them crying, and went thru the house looking for them. Joyce came in with her sisters, Becky and Liberty. Thank you to their hero Barry for doing the whole transport to bring them to safety.

Joyce has a beautiful, thick coat, and loves to be brushed. She is a short little thing, and is carrying about 20 extra pounds. So we have several walks a day. Joyce walks very nicely with just a flat collar. She prefers to walk on the right side. She will need someone committed to help her lose the extra weight.

The fact that Joyce came from a puppymill means that she does have some special requirements.

  • She needs at least 1 well adjusted, confident dog in her new home, so she can continue to learn all about the good life.
  • No children under 10 years old in her new home.
  • A fence is not required with her, she just wants to be near you.

Joyce is very smart, does not bark, is completely housetrained, and has had free run of the house since the first day. She likes to hoard her toys in the corner of the living room.

Joyce will do best in a family that has a routine, and can give her some guidance to become comfortable with everyday happenings. Once she establishes a trust with you, she is your best friend.

Joyce will be at GOLDZILLA, please come and say hi.

Updates

My FM says she has been so busy and knows it has been too long since my last update, so I am going to give it a whirl. I have been pretty busy too. My day starts out at about 6 am by me going to the side of the bed and licking my FM's hand to let her know I am awake, and I would like to eat. We have breakfast, and then go for a walk with all 5 of us GRs walking together. Then when we get home, we get to play outside for a while, and then it is nap time. We go for another walk in the afternoon, and again after dinner. I think they said something about my needing to lose about 15 more pounds. Not sure what that means, but I love those walks. I also get to go for rides in the car. Sometimes we go to the pet stores, or to visit relatives. I am OK as long as I have Remi or Aspen or Abby along with me. I ride nicely and am no trouble at all. I can't jump up into the car because my legs are so short, so I put my front paws up, and FD lifts me into the SUV.

I have learned a lot of words since I have been here: walk, dinner, treat, ball, and sit.

These are some of my favorites: "You are so smart"; "Oh, you are such a pretty girl"; "What a good girl"; Want to go for a walk?" (They talk to me all the time.)

I have gotten more playful too. When FM is putting on her socks, sometimes I grab them from her, and yesterday I grabbed FD's glove and took off running with it.

I am still frightened of new people, but if they take it slow with me, I am OK. When we are on our walks, I am always looking to see if there is anyone around us. I really like people, but it just takes me time to trust them. I am so much happier than I was before I became a RAGOM girl, and my FM says it is only going to get better and better.

That's about all I have for now, and it is getting close to dinner time. Enjoy the new pictures of me.
