Judah's new "furever" family picked him up this morning to continue his journey towards a Golden life. Along with an older Golden sister (and former RAGOM girl), Judah will have three human teenage siblings as well to keep him busy. His new family likes to travel around MN and looks forward to taking Judah on many adventures. Judah deserves the best Golden life and his new family will not only provide that but give him lots of love and cuddles in the process.

Hello everyone! It's Judah here!!!
Judah has spent the last week continuing to work on many behaviors with resource guarding being at the top of the list. Although Judah has not had any issues in just over a week, foster mom and dad know that they need to continue working on this behavior by trading for higher value items whenever they think there may be an issue.
Mealtime has become a favorite time for Judah as he receives hot dogs or cheese while working on not guarding his food bowls or the space around his bowls. Judah has been doing so well, we could not be prouder of how he has taken to trading for items he would really like to keep.
Foster mom and dad know this behavior may never go away completely but may go dormant for a while, so Judah’s “furever” family will also have to be diligent about continuing to work on this behavior for the rest of his life. Other behaviors we continue to work on are commands. Foster mom loves that all she needs to do is say “mine” and Judah lets go of her socks when she is trying to put them on.
Judah loves to spend time outside playing with his foster mom, dad and foster brother. Foster brother is extremely easy going and actually seems to be enjoying Judah’s puppy play which often consists of Judah hanging off his ear, cheek, jowls or tail while they run around the yard or after tennis balls. Foster brother accepts that Judah is a puppy and this is how puppies play.
If Judah’s “furever” home has a resident dog they will also have to understand that this is how puppies play. Judah enjoyed finding a way under the deck and then crawling all over foster dad as he laid on the ground sealing everything up. Foster dad got a kick out of how creative this little guy was to get under there.
Kong toys have become something Judah and foster mom both love. Judah loves trying to get treats or frozen peanut butter out and is content to work at it while foster mom is on conference calls.
Judah also loves his stuffed golden dog who he sleeps with and carries with him wherever he goes. Is there anything cuter? He has tried helping load and unload the dishwasher but foster mom and dad have nicely told him his help is not really needed at this time.
Judah enjoyed his first pup cup from Culvers and when foster brother did not want his he enjoyed a second one as well. So far, we know he loves anything food related including baked sweet potato, cucumbers, hot dogs, cheese, a piece of bacon that fell on the floor. We do know he passed on strawberries.
Again, food is a great motivator for Judah when teaching or stopping a behavior. Nap time is still a favorite time for Judah and foster mom although he doesn’t really appreciate it when he has to be moved off foster mom’s foot.
House training is going very well, it helps that we can spend so much time outside with the weather being nice. He loves the kiddie pool and when that is not filled up, he loves sticking his entire face in the water bucket and blowing bubbles and then going to see where the nearest dirt patch is in the yard.
Judah goes on at least one walk every day and his leash etiquette is coming along but still needs lots of work.
Foster mom and dad have loved spending the last five weeks with Judah, seeing him grow, learn and explore is the highlight to every day. He is a beautiful, cuddly, loving, snuggly, playful, active, outgoing, smart, inquisitive puppy who deserves a “furever” family who is up to the adventures and challenges raising Judah will bring.

Judah (21-079) is a 16-week-old (born 1/21/2021) Golden Retriever puppy who came to RAGOM after his surrendering owner realized a puppy needs more love and attention than they were able to give at this time. Judah will be neutered on 5/25/2021 and will be available to go to his forever home after that procedure. He is up to date on his vaccinations and microchipped.
Judah is a very cute, loving, snuggly puppy who loves to play with tennis balls (and lots of other toys his surrendering owner sent with him), both retrieving and playing keep away from his foster brother.
There is nothing cuter than watching our resident dog follow this little puppy around the yard waiting for him to drop the ball. Judah also loves water whether it is the bath, the outside water bucket, or the small kiddie pool.
Judah enjoys meeting other dogs and people on our walks or when they come to visit. Is there anything better than excited puppy kisses and hugs? He is a great car rider as well and loves to go on car rides where he promptly falls asleep.
He loves to pick things up and carry or chew on them: sticks, rocks, shoes, table legs...something we are working on. Keeping an eye on him at all times or in a crate when you can’t is the key to keeping him healthy and you happy.
Judah is very active and loves to be outside and explore his surroundings. He listens to each sound while deciding if it is friend or foe.
From the neighbor's Huskies next door greeting him at the fence to lawn mowers, weed whips, and the broom, everything is a new experience that he has mastered getting to know and accept.
Judah is house trained but his “furever” home will need to be diligent about continuing this training. He is currently taken out every hour to relieve himself. He has started going to the door to signal he wants to go out but when playing may forget, so making sure to take him out on a regular schedule is imperative to successful training.
Judah is crate trained as well. He sleeps in a wire kennel by his foster parents’ bed from 9:00 pm – 5:30/6:00 am. He sleeps through the night most nights but periodically will decide he wants to go out once during the night. During the day he is content to nap either in his kennel or by his foster mom's feet while she is working.
Being a puppy, he eats three times a day, 6:30 am, 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm with training treats/snacks throughout the day. We are currently working on the following commands – sit, stay, lay, give, yours, and no bite.
Judah is walked one to two times a day (and I use the term walk loosely). Judah’s version of walking right now is running, or a dead stop to watch what is going on in the neighborhood.
Judah has on occasion tried to run after cars so a tight grip on the leash is always needed. Walking on a leash is a work in progress and something his “furever” family will need to agree to continue working on with Judah.
Judah is a typical puppy with typical puppy behaviors. When he plays, he plays hard and puppy biting may happen during that time.
His foster mom and dad are continually working with Judah to understand puppy biting his humans or our resident dog is not acceptable play behavior. His “furever” family will need to be diligent about this ongoing behavior training as well.
When Judah first came to his foster home, he had a couple instances of resource guarding (with his humans not with our resident dog), a food dish, dog bed, rawhide, and a hole he was digging. We have spent the last several weeks working on this behavior by building Judah’s trust in us along with trading for items of equal or higher value.
We have also met with a behavior specialist who provided us with further insight and ideas on how to resolve this behavior. His “furever” family will need to build that trust with Judah, as well as agree to a Zoom call with the behavior specialist prior to adoption. This call will be used to discuss preventing resource guarding behavior.
First and foremost, Judah’s “furever” family will need to love this little guy and smother him with attention while understanding he is a puppy and will act like a puppy.
Judah would do best in a home with children 13+ years of age. He is a puppy with puppy tendencies and could easily knock a child over with his jumping or puppy bite.
Judah’s “furever” family should have prior experience raising a puppy. He will need a fenced yard or always kept on a long leash with someone outside. He is a puppy who wants to explore and could easily wander off. Judah does bark when he's nervous or excited about something so shared walls (apartments, townhomes or condos) will not be a fit for him.
His “furever” family will need to be diligent about continuing to train him on basic etiquette and take him to behavior classes. Judah can be an only dog or have larger dog siblings. His dog siblings would also have to understand he is a puppy who likes to jump, chase, be chased, and may puppy bite. He previously lived with cats but has not been cat tested with his foster mom.
