Jumper jumped!......right into the lake. She followed our resident dog, just like she always does these days. We are rejoicing that Jumper wants to fit in. But back to my story..Yes, Jumper followed Sydney right into the water. But Sydney swam away and Jumper...did the dead man's float. The look she gave Tom was priceless before she figured she needed to ensure the "dead" part didn't come true. She made her first attempts at dog paddling and ended up back on shore. I think I can safely say that this is the end of THAT story. But I can truthfully say that her resemblance to a golden retriever was evident in the bath she gave us all when she scrambled out.
Yes, Jumper is learning new things every day.but fetching is not one of them. She doesn't play and finds it quite annoying that Sydney wants to. She loves to be loved and my blood pressure has come down several points from all the time I have spent just petting her. She lies by my feet for hours as I work at my computer. She is out of the crate at night now, because she wants to join Sydney under our bed, which I think she considers her new "safe spot". She doesn't have much of an appetite, which has been our biggest challenge. I have found that the stinkier the food, the more she likes it. But she will eat enough right now to subsist, no more. But I expect her appetite to improve as she settles in. She loves to ride in the car. The four hour ride to our cabin was very quiet in the back seat, except for the snoring of course. This dog just does not have any intolerable habits. Sydney does report though that she is tired of the paw marks on her head from Jumper's need to be first in line for belly scratches.
It really is too early to see how Jumper's doggy-ness will exhibit itself, but she is very malleable right now. She is such a sweet natured animal. She is untested around children or cats. But she doesn't chase squirrels or any other wildlife yet. She mainly chases Sydney. She doesn't have any problems sharing her food, or treats with others, and so far the two dogs have gotten along famously. She can become interested in your plate, but a
firm "no" changes her mind. She respects the word "no". She does need a forever family willing to spend the time with her to make her their own. The thing she strongly exhibits is that wonderful golden desire to please.
Next week, she will be spayed and have her "makeover". She will come home without a tumor that has been growing on her side, AND her smile will take on a brighter look. She will be one HOT mama.
