Sweet, sweet girl!!  Lova ya. - Kraelyn and Lilly

Dear RAGOM fans, let me welcome you to Juno 13-170. I just turned 7 months old on June 20 (DOB: 11/20/2012). I was saved from a puppy mill in South Dakota along with my littermate, Paris 13-169, and two other dogs, Zane 13-171 and Stella 13-172. Thank you to Deb A. and RAGOM volunteer Rona D. for helping to get me and my companions out of that place.

Now for the details about me. I am very petite and have a beautiful dark red fur coat. I weighed 33 pounds on Monday when Foster Dad dropped me off for my spay surgery. I had a quick checkup, and just like my sister, I have a bit of an ear infection and also a puppy skin infection. So Foster Dad has been busy giving me some meds every day. I am getting better about taking my meds, but FD has to help by disguising the pills with peanut butter. All I can say is where has peanut butter been all of my life, YUMMY!

Foster Dad says the biggest challenge has been trying to keep me calm since my big surgery. With my youth and energy, I just want to play. Now that I actually have a big yard to tear it up in, I can't do so because he keeps hooking me up to that short leash. Plus my play pal Jorja (black and white Cocker Spaniel) wants to play too, but she had her spay surgery 5 days before mine. Jorja also used to live at the same puppy mill as I did, but she was rescued in February.

I am learning the ropes of living in a house, rather than a barn. I have had a few accidents indoors, but Foster Dad is working hard to train me to go outside. I am very shy. Sudden movements and loud noises do startle me. Although FD ran the vacuum by me and the other dogs, I was the only one that didn't run off to the other room.

My ideal forever home will have:

  • Another dog that likes to play (preferably young/younger).
  • A physical fence since my recall is nil and I am a flight risk.
  • A quieter home (kids should be teens or older).

If you would like to meet me or know more about me, please contact your placement advisor.

XOXO,
Juno

Updates

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Dear RAGOM Fans,

Our shy puppy mill girl was adopted by the G family on Oct. 12. Juno has a Mom and Dad that have had Golden Retrievers for a number of years. They also have an adult daughter living at home, so Juno has three humans to get lots of love and attention from. Juno has a new furr sister named Bella to show her lots of new and exciting things. Bella is very well-trained and hopefully will help Juno learn some of those GReat traits as well.

Juno and Bella

Juno was incredibly shy and scared when she first came into RAGOM's care. Her life up to that point had been living in a farm building on a puppy mill. It took a few months to help build her confidence and acclimate to a very nice life of an indoor dog.

The hard part of fostering is letting them go. But when you find a family like the G family and their love for Golden Retrievers, it makes it a little easier to say goodbye. Juno will get plenty of exercise with her new sister Bella with both her Mom and Dad. They live close to a large park reserve with great trails for long walks. Plus they have friends nearby with acres of land to explore as well.

Thank You D & Y for choosing RAGOM for your newest family member! We hope to see a Happy Endings posting of how well Juno is doing in her new life!

XOXO

Wow, where did the month of September go? Well, Juno did have a really busy and fun-filled month. The first weekend and the last weekend of September, Juno went with Foster Dad and the pack to the cabin, She just loves it up at the cabin. Her nose was busy exploring so many new scents. Plus she really does like to run in the lake and swim and splash around (not just getting her toes and feet wet like her pal, Indy). Juno also made a road trip weekend to southern Minnesota to visit Grandma. So I think it is safe to say that Juno travels well in the car on trips from 3 to 4 plus hours.

And let's not forget all of the fun Juno had at Goldzilla on September 15. She met so many human friends and so many dogs. She just loved playing with some of the younger dogs that were at Goldzilla. She was so exhausted that I believe she was sound asleep by the time we pulled out of the parking lot to head for home.

One of Juno's favorite activities is playing fetch after Foster Dad gets home from work. She has more fun fetching a plain old stick than any ball or toy. And just to let you know she is a stick connoisseur. She has a favorite stick and can quickly discern when Foster Dad throws one of the "other" sticks. Juno plays well with Indy in retrieving the sticks. Here is a picture of Juno with her favorite stick.

Keep your paws crossed for Juno this weekend as she has a family coming to meet her.

Juno is getting really excited about the big Goldzilla Event that is coming up really soon on September 15. She is hoping to meet some of her fans there among the hundreds of people and their dogs. She has been busy practicing her swimming skills the past two weekends up at the cabin. She would run into the lake and then swim under the dock and come out on the other side. She was also really busy checking for any chipmunks or other critters that might have gone under the dock too!

Labor Day weekend she made fast and furious friends with Foster Dad's brother's young puppy (Bentley). Bentley is a Labrador/Australian Shepherd mix. Juno and her pal Jorja and Bentley made quite a fun trio and their play was nearly non-stop.

RAGOM could really use some help in making their fundraising goal for Goldzilla. Juno has her own pledge page and sad to say that in the two weeks that it has been up only two of her friends have made a pledge. She is going to withhold any further kisses until someone/anyone helps her get closer to her goal. Any amount is appreciated so that RAGOM can help rescue and find permanent loving homes for more dogs just like Juno. Your donation also qualifies as a tax deductible charitable gift as RAGOM is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit. So please give now if you can at the following link:

Juno promises you some kisses at Goldzilla on September 15!

Hey, RAGOM fans! It's me, Juno, just checking in to see if you are ready for the big get-together, a.k.a the State Fair. In case you were not at last weekend's Meet and Greet at Chuck and Don's in Roseville, here is a picture of me with my sister (Paris 13-169, she is the one lying down). Paris came to the event with Cindy G. who managed to capture our beautiful faces in a quiet moment at the event! Foster Dad had to coax me a bit to go to my first event, but boy, did I sure have a fun time! I was so excited to meet all of the other RAGOM foster dogs and their Foster Parents and a lot of new fans. I was so tired when the event was over that I managed a good nap on the ride home.

This weekend we are taking a road trip up to the cabin in the north woods. As hot as it is, I think I will be doing more than just wading in the lake for a drink of water. I told Foster Dad to make sure he has his camera this time and to be sure it is all charged up too! You know I am a puppy still and can move quite fast.

Juno made a pit stop to see her friends at VCA/ACH Richfield last Saturday too. She weighed in at 39.2 pounds. It must be all of the good food and physical activity with the resident dogs that has helped her to grow a good 10 pounds since she came in to foster care in June.

I'll report back after our weekend adventure!

Hello RAGOM fans! Juno has a few key things to share since her last update. A couple of weeks ago Juno went with Foster Dad and the pack to his cabin for a week of vacation in the north woods. Juno tolerated the long ride (4 hours) fairly well. She panted and drooled for an hour or so, but then eventually took short naps. She was riding on a pet bed and blanket in the back seat with 2 of the resident dogs.

At the cabin we took extra precautions of having Juno on both a flat leash and a long 50-foot trailing leash. My neighbors asked me why I had poor Juno tied to the boat anchor rope. Once I explained that she was another of the puppy mill dogs that I have a penchant for fostering, they understood. Juno enjoyed all of the scents that abound up in the north woods. She and Jorja (Cocker Spaniel) were super busy searching and sniffing for those little chipmunks. They chased many but did not catch any.

The one picture that eluded Foster Dad at the cabin was Juno venturing down into the water. She followed my Golden, Indy, into the lake several times to get her bottom half wet and to get a drink too. By the time I got my camera, Juno and Indy were up on shore shaking off. Better luck on our next visit.

Now that we are back home Juno has learned to walk on a leash. The long trailing lead at the cabin really helped her to get more comfortable and less fearful of being tethered to a longer leash. My first attempt at home with a leash walk I thought I would be wise and easily coax Juno with tasty bits of chicken. Problem was the resident dogs that I brought along as demo models also wanted said tasty treats. So Foster Dad had to change his strategy a bit and extend one hand behind his back towards Juno while gently saying "good girl." Slowly but surely Juno started to follow Foster Dad and the pack. One block quickly turned into several blocks and before long we had may our way down to the beach of Prior Lake. Of course we did have to make a few frequent stops to smell the new scenery as well as to untangle four dog leashes. Juno now can go on walks that are over an hour and not be too nervous.

These are just a few of the milestones that Juno has reached in the almost 8 weeks of being in foster care. She still is very fearful of regular doorways. She prefers to enter and exit the house through the patio door without Foster Dad standing nearby. And she is beginning to play much harder with some of my resident dogs (Jorja and Indy are her big play pals). Outside Juno just loves to chase and retrieve sticks that Foster Dad throws for her. Inside she loves to carry her toys from one room to another. She does not want her toys to be in the rooms that she is not in. I think she thinks her toys suffer from separation anxiety.

What Juno will need in forever family are:

  • Another medium to large sized dog that is younger or playful. A senior dog would likely tire of Juno and her paws being batted in their face.
  • A physical fence is preferred as she would likely be a flight risk without one.
  • A home without younger children/toddlers as sudden movements and loud noises do startle her.

If you want to know more about Juno please contact your placement advisor.

Hey, RAGOM fans, it's me, Juno. I hope you are all having a fun summer and staying cool in the heat. Well, I just have to say I like living inside this big thing called a house with cool central air. It sure beats living in a hot barn with many dogs.

Last weekend on the 14th, I was invited to a puppy party to help celebrate 12-415 Jewel and 12-416 Ruby's first birthday. Boy, did I have fun with the other dogs, including my sister Paris 13-169. There were 18 dogs in all at the party. I liked to play chase and to chase the other dogs. Then I cooled off in the pool with my new friends. Foster Dad said I slept like a log that night! Thanks Cindy G. for hosting a great party and for capturing these new pictures of me! You can see the puppy side of me in the one picture where I was attempting to pick out some sticks to chew on.

I also went back to my friends at VCA in Richfield for a quick checkup last week. I gained a whole 3 pounds so I am now up to 35 pounds. I still have a slight yeast infection in my right ear so Foster Dad is continuing to give me daily medicine for that.

Foster Dad says we are going on a big adventure to spend some time at the cabin and lake. I think I will really like cooling my toes and my body in a big lake. I'll report back on the big adventure later.

XOXO
Juno
