2/3/07: Justy just arrived from Northern MN. He is a nine year old medium colored neutered male. Justy has been well-loved but his family could not affort to treat a strange chronic gum infection so he was surrendered to RAGOM. Justy is very sweet, housetrained, walks well on leash, rides well in the car and likes to watch squirrels. He will go to the vet to get his tooth and gum situation checked out. I'll write more when I get to know this guy better.

Justy is going to recover from surgery at another volunteer's house while I'm on vacation. Justy will be in the care of one of our fosters who is retired so he will receive tender loving care and attention all week long. Justy's surgery was quite difficult and for various reasons his recovery has been slower.

Let's share some happy news about Justy. His personality is ever so sweet. He charms everyone he meets. I have to tell you all, I miss having him around. He is very helpful in the kitchen. He lays down quietly and watches every move I make. I think he's making sure the dinner turns out delicious because he knows he always gets some yummy treats when Mom makes dinner. Justy doesn't beg at all though! He also helps me dress in the morning. He follows me into the walk-in closet and helps me pick out what to wear.

Justy will be ready for adoption after we are sure his mouth is completely healed.

Hello from Justy's new foster mom! Justy's former foster family is going on vacation, so he'll be with me now until he's adopted.

Justy has only been here a mere 24 hours, but I've learned much from Justy and Justy has learned much from "us". Right now, he is behind me, laying on the carpet, snoring away - very content.

I cannot believe Justy is 9 years old! He has so much stamina during walks he put Libby the Yellow Lab to shame. Chester 06-530 only made it once around the block, but Justy went FIVE times and was still in front of me. The neighbors think I'm on a new fitness regimine; nope, just a new foster dog ;-)

I was in touch with Justy's former foster mom today and was able to nip Justy's "drama" and vocalization by simply saying softly, "go lay down". I dunno why it works, but it does :) Granted he's only been here for a day, but he's settling in nicely tonight. I've made Justy a vet appointment for tomorrow morning to make sure his mouth is doing okay, and that the "ants in his pants" are really just ants and not something medical.

Justy has tended to be a fussy eater, but losing two meals to Libby and Chester fixed that. Tonight, down went the three bowls of dinner and Justy went right to work on his bowl. Justy really prefers turkey hot dogs, and if he had it his way, that would be his regular diet. But for me, he is eating half dry kibble and half canned food.

Happily, Justy has turned out to be cat-friendly, as three cats live here and they all met without incidence. But, as I found out during our tiring-out walks around the block this evening, Justy was extremely interested in pursuing an unknown critter running down the waterway along the gutter and storm sewer line; a little critter with a short, flat tail. He's a strong guy, but I was able to hold him back and will be more careful next time! :)

He is an awesome sleeper; not a peep out of him all night. He started out on the bed with Libby and me (and Lacey the prissy kitty), but this morning he was snoozing on the carpet at the foot of my bed. No problems there at all.

Justy is learning from Libby and Chester that chewing on rawhides and Bully Sticks is awesome, so that may also help with his "ants in the pants". I'll chat with the vet about that tomorrow; check out his new photo showing his two little remaining front teeth; "Look Mom - no teeth!".

Oh, and his snaggle-tooth smile is precious; I will try and snap a photo of it. If a robber broke into my house and met Justy, all happy and smiling at him, he'd probably think Justy was a rabid dog with his snaggly, lip-raised smile. It's a hoot.
