Katie is learning to love the golden life! As you can see in the pictures, she is playing with her foster sister - chase, dig hole, and stay away from that camera. Katie is very camera shy so it is hard to get good pictures of her. Luckily it’s hard for her to see the camera with her head in a hole.
Katie is now spayed and will get her stitches out on Saturday. Her blood levels are great, her ears are a lot cleaner, she is no longer constantly itching - just the normal occasional scratch, and she is a bit braver now. She will greet us at the door when we come home from work, hang around awhile before going back to her safe spot and get this - she loves to go for walks at the preserve and does awesome! She mostly walks right at my left side (an occasional sniff) and greets the dogs she meets very well with a little sniffing. Katie is most proud about how quick she learned all about treats. On the walks, if she leaves my side (on the leash) I call "Katie, come" and she comes. Of course, she knows she gets a treat but at this point that is great progress in making it fun to come to her people.
Katie has not had any accidents after that one time shortly after she came to her foster home - so about 3-4 weeks. When we were in the front yard the other evening we saw her peeking out the window at us. When she saw us looking at her she ran off. Katie is great around cats and mostly ignores the cat and walks right by it. Although I try not to encourage my foster dogs to get on the bed, Katie saw my dogs doing it and one day I walked in and there she was on the bed - I swear she was so proud of herself and shining with it. Katie really loves to be around other dogs and to do what they are doing.
She does not guard her food and lets the other dogs come up to her when she has a chewy or bone and even try to take it.
Because she is from a puppy mill and easily scared a fenced yard is a must. Katie would love a forever home with another dog, cats are fine, a fenced yard, and lots of love.
