As of yesterday, November 4th, we have had Katie for a year. We cannot begin to tell you how much this little girl has changed our lives.
We always knew we would someday adopt a Golden from RAGOM, but we didn't know when. We have been longtime donors to RAGOM, and we received an email about the Turkish rescue mission with nine dogs coming to America in October 2018. We then saw Katie's picture for the first time, and we immediately fell in love.
When we walked in the door to meet her at her foster parent's home in North Dakota, we saw something in her eyes that told us she was ours. Katie had a very hard life before she was rescued, living on the streets and in the forests in Turkey. She was found on the road and never had a regular meal, love, or a family. She had constant worries about where her next meal would come from, or worries about other dogs attacking her.
The vet believes she is between four and five years old (just estimating by her teeth). Katie still has some fears with noises and strangers, but she's getting better every day.
Katie lives a much different life now. Every morning when she wakes up, she is given treats, treats, treats. She loves her food and will follow us anywhere and everywhere we go to get more food. She's perfect for our household because food is very important to us as well.
Katie spends her days napping on the couch on soft, fleece blankets - as many as she can cuddle up with - and watching TV. She loves sports and follows the football, baseball, and golf ball across the screen, and she also loves hockey.
She spends her nights going on walks, playing with Mommy and Daddy and asking for more and more treats. She absolutely needs to be in our laps or right next to us at all times (asking for belly rubs), and we wouldn't have it any other way. She turns in circles and talks to us when she wants food (several times per day), and we are happy to give her anything she wants, as she is so deserving.
My husband and I don't have children, so our house was pretty quiet until our little girl arrived. Now we come home from work or dinner, and there she is waiting for us, and we have never smiled so much in our lives. She makes every day fun and happy for us, as we just want to make her life so much better than it used to be.
Katie came all the way across the world to bless our household, and we could not be happier. Thank you, RAGOM, for giving us our Angel!

We have had Katie (Firfir) 18-185TD for the past three and a half weeks. She came over from Turkey, and went from a life of living on the streets, to a new life living on couches with warm fleece blankets.
What a wonderful gift we have been given. She is the most loving, sweetest little girl ever. Her personality is coming out now, and she's such a beauty. It took a couple of weeks until she realized this was her new forever home, but now she's very content.
Katie definitely has the "Golden nudge" and absolutely has to have one paw around my arm when sitting on my lap. She has to be as close to us as possible at all times, and we love every minute of it.
She's such a joy to see, looking out the window when we arrive home, and always happy to greet us, which makes our day so special. My husband and I find ourselves fighting for her attention, and love this little lady more than anything. Thank you RAGOM for bringing this angel to us.

Katie AKA FirFir has been adopted. She has a new mom and dad and will live in Minnesota. She will enjoy time with her extended family - humans and dogs both! What a fabulous journey to a forever life as an American.

Life is good for Katie the first week in America. Good food, soft dog beds, and a lot of human attention are her favorite things!
Katie was to the vet for her wellness earlier in the week. She was a perfect patient. She does have some worms and has been treated and will have a recheck coming up in the next few weeks.
She likes to chew on her hind legs and feet so we are giving her a medicated shampoo three times a week to rule out allergies. Even though she likes to nibble those areas she does not have any hair loss or sores.
Another minor issue is Katie's weight. You may have noticed that she weighs 71 pounds. Now that may not seem very heavy, but she does have a small frame and has some extra insulation that needs to go away! She is being fed premium food and very little treats.
Katie can do a fast paced 2.5 mile walk no problem! Her goal is to lose 15 pounds to be at a healthy weight. We are confident that this will happen.
Katie is a very happy, friendly dog and has been exposed to quite a few people and some older children (9+) and has been fabulous with them all. She sleeps peacefully on a dog bed in the human's bedroom all night and has free roam all day. She has not bothered any inappropriate items, enjoys her dogs toys, and treats and is your typical mellow Golden.
Her new home has a fenced-in yard so we do not know how she would do on a tie out. She does enjoy lounging outside and playing with her toys freely. Her leash manners are very good and she enjoys her walks.
If Katie sounds like she may be that next addition to your family please submit an inquiry.
