Kaylee has hit the jackpot. She has joined the N family for the rest of her retirement years. It was love at first sight for Kaylee and the family. She’s come a long way from the shy, scared girl who entered RAGOM’s care in December 2020 to the confident girl who walked over to her new family at a Meet & Greet and then chose to sit on the couch by her new human sister and dad.

Kaylee is joining the N family as their fourth RAGOM dog. They love adopting the senior dogs, and former breeder dogs, to show them the good life. Kaylee settled in very nicely on the couch with her fur sister, Ivy, and said hello again to her fur brother Arlo.

Until next time sweet girl!

It has been a minute since my last update and let me tell you, I am such a fun pup. My foster family had me do a session with a professional in the Holistic Pet Care field, and wow have they seen changes. During my session with Amy, she helped me realize and understand more about what is happening in my life right now.

You see I wasn’t sure if what I was doing was ok. Just hanging around this new place, not sure of what may happen next. She told me that the past is the past, and that I need to slowly let go of my past experiences and open myself to enjoying the new ones I am being offered.

She told me that I will never have any more puppies, something I seem to recall my foster family telling me too, and that took a huge weight off my shoulders. So much weight in fact that I am now jumping up onto Foster Mom’s bed for pre nighttime snuggles and early morning snuggles. The weight of knowing I am free from having puppies makes me jump for joy—and snuggles.

Kaylee 20-186

I also seem to have my foster family twisted around my little paws. They put a new sofa outside, I think just for me! It is so comfortable. When it’s not too hot in the evenings, my foster family sits outside with us dogs so we can run around and play, but I like to snuggle on the sofa.

Kaylee 20-186

With the heat they have also filled up something called a pool. Let me tell you it was heaven. I laid down in there and just relaxed. It was very nice.

Kaylee 20-186

So, working with Amy and my foster family is helping me relax and become more myself. And myself is what they call a true Golden. A dog who loves pets, greets people and dogs with a tail wag, and who is looking for her furever home.

Hi Everyone! Kaylee here. I thought this time I would give you the update, rather, ‘pupdate,’ myself. I have been on so many new adventures lately and I have learned new things.

The first is that small children really do startle me too much. They move too fast, and try to show you things by shoving them in your face. And to that I say, “‘Hoomans’ help!” And then I run away and hide. I don't want to be scared anymore in my life, so if you have small ‘hoomans,’ sorry, but they are too scary for me. Children should be age 13+ is what I've heard my foster mom say.

On to my ‘pawventures.’ (Hee hee, see what I did there?) I have been to so many. I went to this place called Dog Day Getaway in a faraway town called Apple Valley with my foster brother Moe. There were no apples to munch on though, so not sure why it's called that. I started the day with the senior pups, looking for pets from the ‘hooman’ sitter in there.

I heard one of the sitters say that my foster mom called (geez, don't embarrass me!) and asked if I could be moved to the playful side, and I liked that a lot more! I wagged my tail, got pets from the ‘hoomans’ and loved observing the other dogs play. Foster brother played protector and made sure to check in on me (awww).

I went on another car ride to Rochester for the Mother's Day Meet & Greet and saw so many familiar and friendly faces! I ride so well in the car. I lay down mostly, but will pop up to look out the window once in a while. It was such a fun day!

And then this last weekend I went to a foster sitter’s home while the foster ‘hoomans’ went to something called a Covid-safe wedding. I had so much fun showing my foster sitter and new foster siblings my progress on leash walking!

I did a total of seven miles in the three days I was there. You can call me a sled dog now, yeah, I'm that good. Ha ha! What I found was so nice is that her neighborhood is so quiet! Foster ‘hoomans’ live in a busy area, and I sometimes get scared.

While walking was enjoyable, I still need a fenced yard, because I can get my zoom-zooms in! And then flop to the ground, roll around, and get my head all dirty, hee hee.

So, thanks for reading! See you soon.

Kaylee's foster family is fortunate to have friends who dabble in photography. On Sunday morning Kaylee had a tiny photo shoot to capture her smiles, beauty, and grace. The photographer wrote the following on her page after meeting Kaylee. Please enjoy the following photos and a new person's perspective on Kaylee:

“I’d love to introduce you all to Kaylee! She is an incredible 7-year-old Golden girl up for adoption through RAGOM. Kaylee was released from a breeder, where she spent many years, yet she still loves people so much.

“I got to spend two blissful hours with her today taking some photos to capture how amazing she is. She has such a beautiful, calming energy about her. I truly can’t put into words how special she is.

“Kaylee is wonderful with her doggy foster brother and sisters, sweetly will take treats from your hand, and loves nothing more than gentle pets and walking around the soft grass. I wondered to myself if she ever knew what grass was like before?

“She is nervous about doorways, quick movements, and loud noises, but is conquering her fears every day. She just wants to find someone to show her what an amazing life can be like and I assure you she will give many more years of happiness in return."

Kaylee has now been in foster care for over 100 days. If I am being honest, I did not think she would still be here in foster care. I believe it is due to her RSF: she has major Resting Sad Face. And I understand that it looks like she is sad all the time, but that could not be farther from the truth.

She enjoys romps in the fenced-in backyard chasing those pesky squirrels out of her territory, looking through the fence to see who is on the other side, and lounging on the deck soaking up the sun.

She has been on a few adventures lately. She spent the weekend with another foster and did great. She was a little like Goldilocks, testing out all the dog beds in the home.

This one feels nice, but not quite right. Do you have my just-perfect bed waiting?

While on her vacation, she took a one-mile walk with her foster sitter and even did her business! Her foster sitter did say she played bumper dogs, bumping into the other two dogs she was walking, but overall did great.

We think this is due to the nature of the neighborhood the foster sitter lives in. It is a much quieter neighborhood with walking paths and much less traffic than in Kaylee’s current neighborhood. This gives us hope she will do well on future walks.

Her foster family also celebrated Easter and dressed her up accordingly for the occasion.

We hope you take a moment to really read her bio and consider her for your family. She will make you laugh and smile, and in return you will see her smile.

I know, another update so soon! Well, Kaylee went on a road trip this past weekend to a Meet & Greet down in Rochester, Minnesota. She did amazingly! Yes, she was still a bit nervous around new people but quickly settled in and was looking for pets. She even wagged her tail when meeting the ambassador Golden Retrievers who came with the host.

Kaylee rode like a dream on the way down, mostly laying in the backseat. But on the way back home, she kept popping up to look out the window. I think she really enjoyed the trip and enjoyed seeing new scenery.

Once we got home, Foster Mom took one of her resident dogs for a walk, and Kaylee and her foster sister Stacey looked out the window longingly as if to say, “Take us with you.” Since then, we have gone on two walks and she is getting so much better at them. Enjoy these photos of our trip.

A month has gone by since Kaylee’s last update. But in that month Kaylee has shown major progress. She has learned that couches are comfortable, hoarding toys in her kennel is a fun sport, and walks are not that terrifying. She even brought her foster mom her shoe one day as if to say, "Hey, let's get moving."

Kaylee 20-186

So, we have been working with her to become more confident on her walks. As long as she has a confident walking partner to look towards for guidance, she does OK.

Her silly side has also come out more when she bounds outside for playtime before breakfast. She runs, prances, shimmies, and shakes while outside. It is for that reason that we ask for a physical fence for her. She can be truly free.

Her tail wags have also increased. She walks up to you tail wagging to ask for pets. When familiar people come to the house and she recognizes them, her tail wags a mile a minute and she walks to them for pets. She responds well to both male and female guests, but has really taken a liking to her foster grandpa, probably because he gives her all the treats she wants.

Kaylee 20-186
Kaylee 20-186

She enjoys her days lounging around, sometimes hoarding toys in her kennel, enjoying being in control of her life.  To her family who is out there, she will bring you such joy in the smallest of ways: watching her do new things or just lying in the middle of the chaos known as life.

It has been one month since the last update and Kaylee has continued to show us how resilient and loving she is. She starts off every day by doing a full romp around the yard, tail wagging as fast as it can possibly wag. She then comes in and goes to her kennel to eat up her delicious breakfast.

This girl loves her kennel. She enjoys going in on her own during the day to take naps, add to her collection of stuffed animals, and has even taken a liking to a specific brand of toy: the very loveable hedgehog toy. I think we counted 7 ‘hedgies’ in there one day.

Her spirit continues to shine bright in her new environment. She has met new people and will no longer run away from them, but stand back and observe them. And sooner rather later, she will approach them, give them a sniff and then ask for pets.

This is a big accomplishment for the girl who wanted nothing to do with human touch for the first few weeks in foster. She now craves it. So much so that she has figured out how to climb onto the couch for more pets. Her fosters’ favorite part of watching Kaylee grow is her giving ‘boops’ to them as if to say, “I would love more pets please.”

She has even gained enough confidence to eat her dinner in the living room in front of her fosters and her foster siblings. She has shown zero food aggression towards her foster siblings, although they know better than to go into another dish. Dinner time is always monitored at her foster family’s home to ensure everyone is happy and safe.

Finally, Kaylee would like to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day. She dressed up for the occasion.

Kaylee continues to make leaps and bounds in her foster home. She has now decided to be a part of the family unit and sit with us when we are in the living room. She enjoys sitting close to us and enjoys it even more when we sit on the floor and give her pets.

Like a true Golden, she will do the Golden lean and Golden nudge to get you to continue petting her. And my goodness does it work. Here are some photos of Kaylee enjoying life at her own pace.

She likes to keep an eye on you when you are cooking, in hopes that she can snag some of that goodness, too.

Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read about Kaylee. She has been in her current foster home for three weeks now and is doing wonderfully! She shows us every day how brave she is getting, and her foster family is so proud of her.

Since her last update she has seen the vet and was given a healthy evaluation. She did have a double ear infection that we have since taken care of with daily ear cleaning and drops. She was such a good girl during this time, allowing us to clean her ears with ease. She also came back negative for heartworm and fecal parasites. She is a healthy girl. We are still awaiting her spay date, but hopefully that will be in January.

Kaylee also had a bath at foster family’s favorite store, Wag 'N Wash in Lakeville. They have self-grooming tubs, which allowed us to safely give her a bath. You can see she was a bit unsure but she did relax a bit during her spa treatment.

Kaylee 20-186

We also had a nice Christmas celebration at foster family’s home and Santa Paws even stopped by with a nice toy of Kaylee’s very own.

Kaylee 20-186
Kaylee 20-186

We were so very proud of how brave she was, as she decided to park herself in the middle of the living room during all the unwrapping.

Kaylee 20-186

Kaylee has decided she enjoys observing the household from the living room and goes where the people are. During Christmas dinner, she gently went up to her foster mom's mother and gingerly poked her asking for pets. Even though we were eating at the table, she received pets and praise for her bravery. She will ask for pets with a tiny, gentle nose poke.

Kaylee continues to do all her business outside and loves running around the yard with her foster siblings. Her tail is wagging and she is genuinely happy. She eats her meals nicely in her kennel.

She understands the following phrases: come, outside, kennel, and upstairs.

What she will need in her forever home is patience, a medium- to large-size dog companion from whom she can continue to learn, children age 10+, a fence and last but not least, all the love.

Dear Santa Paws,

I hear 2020 has been a hard year for a lot of people. Me included, until the beginning of December. I was rescued from a commercial breeder and placed in a foster home with three foster siblings. I am still adjusting to life in a loving home. When I got here, my three foster siblings all checked on me and made sure I was okay and then gave me my space to let me adjust.

In the living room I found this big bright green thing (my foster siblings called it a Christmas Tree—it’s beautiful), and I made a wish. My wish is for all of my fellow Goldens to be as happy as I am in my foster family’s home. So, Santa Paws, for the rest of 2020, I have all that I need. I will be taking my time to adjust and discover the new me.

Love, Kaylee

Kaylee 20-186

If that doesn’t melt your heart… Kaylee began her new life away from breeding on December 5. Upon arrival to her foster family’s home she was scared, shut down, and overwhelmed. She met her three foster siblings without any issues; she even wagged her tail a bit, got kisses, and gave kisses.

The first night she found her safe place in the middle of the living room. Since then, she has decided to observe the world around her from the dining room, slightly behind the table.

All breeder dogs require a confident dog who are of a similar size in their forever home. Kaylee is no different, she looks to our resident dogs for support and confidence as she encounters new things and they do a great job of acting in that role model role.

We also are requiring a fence for Kaylee to keep her safe. We would consider her a flight risk as she may not have known what freedom is until now. The proof of needing a physical fence is in her first day here while in the fenced backyard and on a tie out for additional safety, she immediately went to the gate, almost seemingly looking for a way out.

At this time, we are asking for a home with children age 10+. We feel that because she is so shy and uncertain, an older dog-savvy child would be best for her.

Kaylee is adjusting to her new life and starting to show her true self. Keep watching, RAGOM supporters, this girl is going to show us that 2020 was not all bad. She does still need to see the vet and be spayed, but that doesn’t stop us from talking to potential applicants. If you are interested in adopting her, let us know.
