I would like to introduce Kelly who is a 21 month old absolutely gorgeous Golden. She is 68 pounds of almost pure puppy with high energy, crazy antics, very inquisitive and loves to run and play. Kelly came to our home a few weeks ago after her surrender to RAGOM due to several seizures which her owner did not want to deal with. Currently she is on a low dose of phenobarbital which has been very effective in controlling her seizures. Since she has been with me there was only one minor seizure which occurred the day she was spayed--the vet attributed this to her trauma over the surgery and anesthetics. Kelly is now house trained whose only major issue now is her fear of being alone. When she first arrived she could not stand to be alone for even a minute nor could she be alone in any room. She was very afraid of being left behind although she has no problem spending time alone in a car. For a while Kelly was with me 24 hrs a day. I have since added a pet gate/door to our laundry area which she can see out of. I now feed her in this room with the gate shut and I go away from the room. I also now go to the mailbox, garage, neighbor for short periods and she is fine. She spends lots of time alone on our deck. This separation fear was very severe when she arrived but is gradually abating as she gets more secure in her home. She does not like crates which is normal for a dog with her fear. Kelly is up to date on her vaccinations and also Heartgard and Frontline. She also has no resource guarding issues with her food, treats or toys. This is a truly wonderful dog who in a short time has endeared herself to our family.

I noticed the first day that she loves to be in the car with her head out the window(s) and wants to pace. She rarely sits down in the car and wants to see and smell everything. On our first walks she was all over the place-typical puppy behavior but she is settling down a bit now on our walks. A Gentle Leader certainly helped these walks. I have noticed on our walks that she has a strong prey drive. We recently spent a few days at our lake home. Kelly spent her time with 12 people in our home along with 3 other dogs and she was in heaven. Our youngest granddaughter (7 years old) has been terribly afraid of bigger dogs-she would run and hide from them. After a couple of days she not only warmed up to Kelly but she would seek her attention and Kelly was happy to nuzzle her. She gets along well with children both small and big and perhaps every one else on earth. Kelly also met 3 other Goldens on the island and loved every minute of her time with them. After a while I gave her some freedom to roam and she clearly loved this freedom including a swim in 45 degree water. To bring her back home all she had to hear was the Come command and there she would be, sometimes carrying items such as fish carcasses, twigs and any other interesting things she thought I would like.

I am a first time foster and admit I have fallen for Kelly--she is a very sweet, loving and playful young dog who I am confident will be a wonderful addition to the right family. This family should be one where someone works from home, retired or where someone spends the bulk of the day at home. Kelly still needs some time to work through this separation fear. Having another confident dog could also help. Kelly has so many special qualities and she deserves to be in her forever home--nothing less. More updates will be coming.

It is with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to Kelly. She has found her forever family! We will miss her, but she made an instant connection with her new family. Bye, Kelly. Have fun and enjoy your new life--we will miss you.

Kelly here: Well, the holiday weekend was a blast. Food everywhere! I thought I was in dog heaven. My foster mom said I was in "burr haven." She wasn't real happy having to get all the burrs out of my coat. So now it's time to rest up and get ready for Goldzilla. So I'm making sure I get extra rest so I can look my best and lots of paw stickers--let me explain:

To all the RAGOM fans out there…

Goldzilla is almost here, September 14th, and we just want to let you know about something very special happening the day of the event. There will be a large board (near the baseball backstop) with all the pictures of available dogs. You can help by purchasing a foster paw print sticker at the merchandising tent in increments of $10, $25, $50, and $100. Once purchased, you will place the paw print sticker next to the picture of the dog you’d like to support. You will also have the opportunity to write that particular dog a note, which will be posted the dog’s page after the event. This is a great way to show support for RAGOM and a particular dog that may be pulling at your heartstrings. Please consider stopping by the merchandise tent to purchase a Foster Fan Board paw print while at Goldzilla.

Just remember that when you purchase a sticker, please-please-please-please (Kelly, stop begging) vote for me! Here's a picture so you won't forget me.

And I have a little something to say about voting for me at Goldzilla...

Kelly here (right in the photo below). I'm practicing my car riding skills with the help of Russell (left). I've got to get this down before I have my long ride to Goldzilla on September 14. Yes, I'm going and can't wait to see all the other dogs. You can find me at the foster tent from 11:30 - 12:30. I'll be waiting to meet you!!!

Things are going great here--no seizures! FM says I could benefit from an obedience class because I kind of have selective hearing. I do know "sit," "come," and "leave it," but there is so much more to learn. I love to play tug-of-war and sometimes fetch (that's way too much work for me). Most of my day, I just lay around the house. I don't get on furniture -- I really don't know how to jump up.

Wow!!! Who IS that gorgeous dog I'm looking at? What a cutie!

FM here: We've been having fun with Kelly and she's starting to really enjoy her surroundings. She's got the routine down and is waiting at the back door, wagging her tail, when I come home from work. Kelly is not a real snuggler actually; she's what we call our closet dog. If you're looking for Kelly, you can find her in our walk-in closet. She literally is in the closet--it's the coolest place in the house. Our closet is now been renamed to Kelly's closet. She is doing well on her seizure medications and is just waiting for her forever family. She walks nicely and does enjoy her walks. Kelly enjoys having another dog around. Even though they don't play a lot, I believe another dog helps Kelly relax while we are gone during the day. Kelly is a great dog and has learned her yard boundaries. Sometimes she tries to be sneaky and go beyond the boundaries, but does come back to me when I call her.

Kelly here: FM just stepped away from her computer, so I thought I would use her phone and take a selfie. What do you think? Oh, darn, I gor my paw in the picture! Oh no,got to go.

Please contact you placement adviser about Kelly. She IS a wonderful dog and a great family member.

Today (Aug 20th) is my 3rd birthday!!! I can't tell you what I wished for because then it won't come true. I get to go to Dairy Queen and get a "pup cup"!!!! I'm sure there's other surprises awaiting me--got to go; it's time to party.....Kelly

Kelly here. What a great weekend I had. I got to go swimming with my resident brother, Russell, and I got to ride around on the pontoon (now I get what the "Pontoon" song is all about). I really don't like to swim, but Russell is showing me how and he swims like a fish or, should I say, a Golden! I'd still rather wade in the water. I've been feeling great and getting compliments on my weight loss. That's really nice to hear because I turn another year older on August 20th. Wow, I'm going to be 3 and I bet you can't guess what I want for my birthday?!?! I'm not saying because then my wish won't come true--you'll just have to guess. Anyway, I had a couple of pictures taken on the pontoon and I still look good even if I'm wet.

FM here. Kelly spent a busy weekend pouring on the charm at her very first Meet and Greet last Saturday at Chuck and Don's in Plymouth. She met a lot of wonderful people and really enjoyed the kids and I think the kids enjoyed her too. She is hoping that she might have met her forever family (paws are crossed), but understands these things take time. Kelly was all smiles and worked the crowd, raising donations for RAGOM. She got to have her picture with Kevin! Kevin gave a very generous donation and Kelly was right there to thank him.

Hi, folks. It's me, Kelly. I've been really busy. I spent the weekend at the lake trying to learn how to swim. I was so tired that I overslept and couldn't get out of bed on Monday morning. All this swimming and walking has started to show. People keep telling foster mom that it looks like I've lost some weight. Wow, I'm going to be a knockout when I get to my ideal weight!

Now to the serious stuff:
I just want to let you know that I haven't had a seizure in over two months! My meds seem to be working. I take 400 mg of Zonisamide and 192 mg of Phenobarbital twice a day. I also take 8 mg of Melatonin daily for my Alopecia. My hair is growing back in with a light, soft, fluffy feel. Medically, I'm on track and hopefully things stay that way.

I'm really wanting a furever home! I live with my resident brother, Russell, so another dog would be nice to have around. If you don't have another dog, I kind of need to have someone around most of the time (I can go about 6 hours by myself). I really love people around me. I have been practicing riding in cars and have improved so much. I can go on long rides--with a harness and a few treats, I can go without any problems.

Oh no, foster mom is coming--got to go--later, everybody!

Kelly here. I'm having a great time with my foster family! My brother, Russell, is showing me how to ride nicely in the car and FM says I'm really improving. I like to chase balls, but find it much better if Russell chases the ball and I just take it from his mouth--it's a much easier way for me to play fetch! I'm not a big fan of swimming, but do like to get my paws wet. FM gave me a bath the other day and I smell real good now. If you haven't had a chance, check out my video on my previous post. I tell FM what I want in a furever family. Well, got to go; a nap is calling me and I must go.

13-104 Kelly is a purebred Golden, 2.5 years old, 80 lbs, female, spayed, up-to-date on shots, has been on heartworm preventative and Frontline. Kelly is tearfully being surrendered because of a major lifestyle change for her owner/former foster. Kelly has no guarding issues. She is good with dogs, likes to go to the dog park, is great with children, has had little exposure with cats but seemed to be fine. Kelly has full run of the house; she does not like to be crated, but respects baby gates. Likes car rides.

Kelly has had issues with anxiety in the past, but the surrendering owner has done a nice job with her, and she has settled down. The surrendering owner said that he could leave Kelly alone for 4-5 hours with free roam without any issues. She does best with free roam and is not destructive. Would prefer a forever home with someone home most of the day.

Kelly has mild seizures and is on two medications. Phenobarbital 3 tabs 2 times a day and Zonisamide 4 tabs 2 times a day. She has been on a new dosage and has not had a seizure in over two months. Kelly was recently diagnosed with Alopecia X and has been on melatonin 8 mil. in the AM. She has some loss of hair on her belly and back legs. Kelly takes all her meds easily in Pill Pockets.

FM here--Kelly is a wonderful dog with a Golden personality. She hasn't shown any signs of anxiety in our house since coming into foster care. Kelly does great with our resident dog and I feel he has helped her with her anxiety. I can leave her for 8 hours without any worries. I think another calm dog or someone who is home a lot would be great for Kelly. Kelly does show some anxiety when riding in a car. I now use a car harness on her and some treats which has helped in minimizing her anxiety. We will continue to work on this and I feel that she will be great riding in a car shortly.

Kelly needs a home that is committed to her health, keeping her on her meds as well as exercising her daily. Kelly is about 15 pounds overweight. Kelly would make a great family dog. She has tons of personality and just wants to please people.
