Keota found her forever home with a wonderful forever mom. Amy has visited her several times and the two of them hit it off. This afternoon when it was time to go, Keota jumped into the car without a backward glance. Keota, Aster and I did sneak out before Keota's forever mom arrived and tried to catch a few pictures in the woods. Enjoy your wonderful new forever home Keota.

Weekend substitute foster mom writing in this time with an update on Keota's recent adventures at dog-friend Kellie's house. Party festivities included fine dining (bacon flavored gravy), playtime with a very leggy stuffed frog( may he rest in pieces), window shopping ( for those dangerous sidewalk intruders), and friendly conversation ( barking out the windows with friends). Keota is a sweetie with just a bit of a guard dog instinct (although she has also been known to be shy)! At my house, Keota felt that new dogs must be initiated thoroughly with an intimidation routine ( all show). Kellie just barked right back, and they quickly worked it out. Keota has her own way of processing new environments/dogs...and since she's got some good vocal chords on her, it can be a bit startling But, it appears to pass with time and her comfort level with her environment/other dogs. Keota has the most charming way with people... the way she tilts her head and perks up her ears when you're talking to her; intently listening to every word. And she plays with such enthusiasm...tossing the toy in the air and catching it. She curls up softly on the couch and the bed, and adores having her ears rubbed. Both resident dog Kellie and I, and my daughter enjoyed having her... and her second weekend with us, especially, she clearly had a ball! She walked so nicely with the gentle leader, and greeted all the neighborhood dogs very calmly. She even ignored the cats. When a new foster (Sadie 06-090) joined our group, Keota had to process... and wasn't entirely thrilled with having to share the environment with a newbie, but she responded very well to instructions to cease and desist. I recommend a quieter street than ours... I was alerted to almost every sidewalk passer, but we're very close to the sidewalk, and a calm resident dog (who won't be phased by a little posturing), but otherwise Keota is a sweetheart, and it was a pleasure having her. I know she's anxious to find her forever home...someone with a little patience to wait for her to feel comfortable, someone who likes to chat, take long walks and provide her with lots of ear and tummy rubs. Stuffed animal toys are required.

Keota learned to play this week. She seems to have held back until now, but she and our resident Golden Aster are romping and playing together. They two of them can be rather silly. Keota even lets our older cat join in. I tried to catch some pictures, but it is hard to get good shots of moving targets.

It's hard to believe that Keota has been here a week. She is doing great! Keota has met all of her foster siblings. It is hard work for Keota not to chase the cats - a firm word seems to stop her. She does well with our three year old Golden. She loves to be with people and is well mannered. Once I missed when she was standing by the door to go out - Keota woke me from my snooze with a loud woof that it was time to go out.

Keota loves our walks in the woods - she tries to explore every nook for those rabbits and other critters. We made our first trip to the vet and the ride went well. Keota seems to be in good health and surprised all at how active she is. She acts more like a five year old then a ten year old. In two weeks we will return to the vet to have her thyroid checked out. The vet wants to check her thyroid levels after two weeks to let things settle down for her. Keota takes her thyroid medicine twice a day without any problems.

We are working on walks and leashes. When we first start our walks Keota pulled on the leash but that is improving each day. Keota is a warm outgoing dog that would love to have a home to call her own.
