Keri is the smallest of Patti’s four-week-old pups and comes from a puppy mill in Arkansas where, we are told, the conditions were “deplorable”. She has a tiny white “star” on the top of her head that makes her easy to identify. But just because she’s not the largest pup in the litter that doesn’t mean that she’s not feisty. If you’ve got a puppy tugging on one of your shoelaces chances are that it’s Keri.

Alison and Mike took Keri off to Wisconsin and renamed her Kayla. She has fallen in love with the resident Pug and is trying to get to know the cats … as well as any cat will allow such things, that is. She’s been going off to work/school with these two vets every day and is capturing the hearts of all the staff. And, speaking of hearts, one of the cardiologists heard a little heart murmur that everyone hopes she will grow out of. Her new owners say that they couldn’t be happier and that she is a wonderful little girl.

The vet gave Keri her final medical exam, her puppy shots and “chipped” her yesterday. She weighed in as the lightest pup in the litter at 7.1 pounds. She may be the “little one” but she certainly doesn’t know it. And she doesn’t act it, either. Amazingly during the shots and the chipping she didn’t even acknowledge that there was anything going on. She had the vet-supplied cookie and was giving it her full attention. After the exam she wandered the office and tried to play with the one-eyed rescue cat. She also interrupted the vet tech’s work and convinced her that she needed to be held for a few minutes. She’ll meet her prospective new “parents” next weekend and she is fully prepared to melt their hearts.

Keri may be the smallest of the litter but she’s growing and thriving just like the others. In her forever home she will be crossing the border into Wisconsin. I’m sure we all hope that she doesn’t become a Packer fan. Keri will be assisted in running her new forever home by two veterinarians, Alison and Michael. She will even be going to work with them on occasion. I’m sure she will be a lot of help.

Keri is still the smallest of the litter … but don’t try to tell her that. She’ll tackle any new situation with as much gusto as any of her litter mates. She plays tug-of-war with Shannon, she snuggles up to Guiness for naps and is as quick to attack any shoelaces found in the area. There is no such thing as a “safe” shoelace in the puppy area. She, like her littermates, will be getting treated for an upper respiratory infection. A large percentage of the dogs that came from this Arkansas puppy mill have been diagnosed with this problem.
