Kevo 07-431

Profile

7/7/07: My name is Kevo and I am estimated to be 10 years old.  I've spent the last several weeks in a shelter, where I became very depressed and sad.  I lost a lot of weight and a lot of muscle mass.  I came into RAGOM on July 4th, Independence Day for me!!  Now I'm living in a home with a big, fenced back yard and I have two canine foster sisters.  If I do say so myself, I am one handsome boy.  They said in the shelter that I was deaf but Foster Mom's decided that isn't true.  I hear lots of stuff, including 'dinner time'!!  You see, now that I'm in a home where I'm loved, my appetite has dramatically improved.  Foster Mom is giving me hamburger and rice mixed with my kibble and I'm eating like a good boy should.

I went to the vet last week and I got some very bad news.  This cough I have isn't kennel cough - I have cancer in my lungs.  Therefore, I won't be adopted out and will instead make this my forever home.  No one knows how much time I have left, but I'm not going to concern myself with that.  I'm just going to be grateful that RAGOM sprung me and that I get to prance around with my head and tail held high.  So far I just have occasional coughing spells, mostly when I wake up.  I'm on some meds to make me comfortable and, once I get some weight back on my bones, I should be able to have a nice rest of my life.

Thank you to all the RAGOM volunteers who worked hard to get me into the program.  I'm grateful and I send you all big, sloppy kisses.

It’s Kevo here, just before I go to my very last vet appointment.  I’m looking forward to not being sick anymore and to going to a place where I’ll get to run and play like a healthy dog.  Foster Mom is sad but I’ve told her that this is just the next phase for me and that I’ll see her again when she comes to The Bridge.  Last night she gave me some hot dog bites and some hamburger.  It’s the only thing I’ll eat and she doesn’t want me to get to The Bridge with an empty stomach in case there’s a long orientation.  Bye for now, my RAGOM friends.

P.S.  I want to send big sloppy kisses to my new buddies, five year old boys Jack and Jarrett, who donated their own money for my care.  I promise to meet your dogs, Casper, Sable, and Cody, when they come to The Bridge and I will show them where the hot dogs are.

Am I the handsomest boy in the history of the planet or what!  At least that’s what Foster Mom says.  She must believe it too because she kisses on me ALL THE TIME!!  I’m starting to get more comfortable here in foster care/hospice but my appetite still isn’t the greatest.  I have a knack for picking the kibble and rice out of my meals so I just get the hamburger.  I even hid my pill so that I could spit it out AFTER I’d eaten the hot dog it was in and AFTER I’d finished my dinner.  Foster Mom was pretty amazed.  We’re gonna try some canned foods to see if perhaps they’ll entice me to eat more.  At my age, who cares what it does to my teeth!

Other than that, things are pretty much the same.  I still have occasional coughing spells, mostly after I wake up.  I’m a good houseguest while Foster Mom is at work and I just hang out with the two resident dogs.  I go upstairs now at bed time with my foster family instead of staying downstairs like I did the first few days.  I think we’ve all settled into a routine and Foster Mom hopes it lasts for a long, long time.
