Keyno 07-426

Profile

Hello, all you folks out there in adoption land. My name is Keyno. I am a surrender dog that was brought in 7/16/07. I was transported and stayed overnight with a nice family in Big Lake, where they took real good care of me. I got some of my ear mats taken out there and boy, did that feel good. I got some treats and met the resident dogs. The next day I was on my way again to Hinckley where my new foster dad met me and drove me up to northwest Wisconsin.

I am a 60 lb. intact male. When I first meet you, I am so excited and nervous that I like to jump on you. My foster dad says that is not good and he will teach me not to do that. I am not house broken either. When I play hard I forget where I am and go in the house. That is a real no-no around here and I am learning "no!!!outside".

I have also learned some other things here that I didn't know. Being a un-neutered male I like to climb up and mount the other dogs. Well, let me tell you, that doesn't fly around here. There are four other dogs that live here--three Golden Retrievers and a little liver and white female English Springer Spaniel. Two are male Goldens and one is a female. The first two or three times that I tried that mounting business, the other dogs just gave a warning growl and backed off. You see, I tried it on all of them--male or female, it didn't make any difference. I guess they took it as a sign of dominant behavior (which I am not). Well, anyway, after the third time with the big red dog (goodness, he is twice my size), I got my clock cleaned good. I still didn't learn and went after the big blonde girl who is also twice my size. Guess what? She gave me a good lesson also. Only this time I got bit on the inside of my lip and had to go to the vet and get it looked at. Nothing serious--just a puncture wound on the inside lip. The vet put me on antibiotics for a week and some Rimadyl for the the pain if any. Wow...what a quick introduction into the pack life. I don't try any of that stuff anymore. The other Golden is a year-old neutered male, and he and I are having a ball playing together. We go for long walks every day, go down to the lake and swim, and chase balls. I even bring it back to foster dad. I also am getting along fine with the rest of the pack. They have what they call a pecking order around here and I have learned my place in it and everyone is now happy.

I have to go back to the vet on the 7/27/07 for my shot update and to be neutered. I had my wellness check when I had my lip checked. Everything was a okay. I am on Heartguard and Front Line. My fecal check was negative. So after the 27th I will be ready for that forever home. I almost forgot to mention that I go the groomers on Monday to get a haircut and my nails trimmed. Foster dad says he will send some more pictures to show you how nice I look in my new haircut. The pictures you now see I am all wet from my morning swim with my buddy Stanley. We will talk again soon.

Updates

Keyno joined our very large family in August of 2007. We have 6 teenage and college aged boys, so there is a lot of action every day at our house.

Our older newfie, Zoey, died last summer, so you will see below a picture taken on New Years Day of Keyno and Teddy, the new newfie, who is now 9 months old. They are definitely BFFs (Best Friends Forever).

Just last week, our family acquired an inter-family rescue yellow lab named Abby. She is nine years old, but Keyno and Teddy are very careful with her arthritic bones and she is learning to live with very active brothers.

We have 7 acres for them to run and Keyno does just that, especially in the winter when there isn't any brush. He runs circles around us as we tromp through the snow. There are deer and turkeys to chase and the cat to torment as well. He is a very happy boy and you can see his smile.

Another update on Keyno. He went to the vets yesterday and was neutered, brought up to date on his vaccinations, heartguarded, frontlined, and is ready to go to his forever home. He also has made great strides settling in around here. He gets along well with the resident dogs, has run of the house, goes for daily walks and swims, has learned not to jump up, and has even learned about water retrieving. I was working with the resident dogs on there water and land retrieves and Keyno became quite interested (now that his playmate Stanly is gone)I threw a training dummy out for him twenty yards off the dock. He dove right in, swam out picked it up, swam back to shore ran out on the dock and delivered it to me. Not bad for a guy who was only introduced to water a week ago and has had no formal training in the retrieving department. I am sure he learned all this by watching my dogs work. Keyno is one smart boy who learns quickly and can think for himself. All of the girls at the vets office fell madly in love with him. They just could not understand how anyone could give up such a prize. I told them it was not a easy decision for the surrendering family and many tears were shed when he left. Not only is he a very affectionate dog and good looking boy, but he is also smart as a whip. So, if this guy fits your family give RAGOM placement a jingle and come for a visit. I don't think this boy is going to last very long before he is adopted. The young, smart, good looking ones usually don't. Some updated photos include Keyno on the left with his buddy Stanley cornering a chipmunk and a happy Keyno getting ready to go for a romp in the lake.

A short update on Keyno. Things have vastly improved for him. There are no longer any accidents in the house(thank goodness). I guess it was just the nervous stress on him with all of the sudden changes in his young life. Everything is now honky-dory in that department. His playful and jubilant personality is starting to shine through. He loves to play with balls and chew toy's,go for walks, and swim with his buddy Stanley. Stanley is leaving tomorrow to go back to my sister-in-law. Keyno is going to miss him a lot.Well maybe his new forever home will have a playmate who is as much fun. He got his hair cut and a bath yesterday and the groomer said he was a very good boy!! He even got a pedicure which he needed very badly. His feet are still tender walking on our gravel roads up here, but that is also greatly improved. It won't be long before they toughen up.(Keyno was a house dog who was only exposed to soft grass, thus the tender pads.) He is such a nice dog who is willing to please,is very obedient(well most of the time)knows down, sit and come. He is starting to learn not to jump on people and is quite the cuddler. If you aren't careful he will crawl right up in your lap. He walks well on a leash and loves to go for walks. Loves people of all ages and likes to sleep in his crate. He slept in his crate with the door open last night and he was still there in the morning sound asleep. He has run of the house and stays off the furniture. He goes in this Friday for neutering and some shot updates and will then be ready for that loving forever home. I guess you could say the Keyno is just one well adjusted friendly guy who loves people and is very playful with other dogs.Sounds like who ever adopts him is going to be one lucky family.
