03/11/07: After a long day or riding in the car and meeting lots of new dogs Kiara – 4 yrs old - finally arrived on March 10th, 2007. She is overweight, but we are working on it! Yesterday we went for two walks and she walked amazingly well. She has not had any accidents in the house and sleeps with her blanket in the kennel at night. She greeted all her visitors yesterday with her HUGE smile, and a big wagging tail. She really is a blessing. We lost our cat on the 9th and Kiara coming has really helped us to cope with this. Her love and kisses have helped us through a hard time in our lives, and we only hope we can help her just as much. Kiara has to have a torn ligament surgery on her hind leg, but she is doing really great on it. It does not seem to bother her to much right now. She will go to the vet tomorrow. She does not jump on people when they come in the door but her wagging tail could sure knock you over! She is wonderful with kids and dogs, and it adjusting to cats. They are something new for her. She barks a little when she is excited and always come to sit by you to be petted, or flops down to have a belly rub!

Updates

Thursday, July 5, 2007

Hi everyone, Kiara here. Foster mom is slacking on these updates so I'm going to take it upon myself to help out. I'm pretty much back to normal after my surgery this spring. I can run & keep up with the other dogs just fine & you should see me fly up & down the stairs! I still need a bit of help getting my tail end up & into the SUV though. Mom doesn't mind giving me that bit of lift, but some days I can do it myself. Did I mention that I LOVE riding in the car? I'm such a good girl & just look out the window & when that gets boring I just lay down for a nice snooze. I like riding so much that sometimes I try to sneak along...as soon as a door opens I high tail it out of the house & sneak under the car, where I wait patiently & hope that my big brown eyes will make them take pity & take me along to wherever they are going. Sometimes I get my way, & other times mom has to trick me to get out from under the car...oh well, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

So I'm looking kinda funky these days.  My fur is growing back in nicely on my leg from the surgery, especially my feathering. It still has a ways to go though. I had an ear infection a couple of weeks ago & then also got a hot spot, right on my cheek no less, so the vet shaved half my face to help it heal faster. It feels much better now, thank you, & at least both my trimmed areas are on the same side. Mom teases me that I should get the other side shaved too & then I could be sporting a mohawk for the summer!!

I can't figure out why no one wants to adopt me. I'm such a good girl. I get along great with kids, I love other dogs, I don't run away, in fact Mom says I'm what they call a Velcro dog, & she always knows where I'm at. I sleep with the kids, I'm completely potty trained, I don't counter surf, & a few days ago was the first time I ever got up onto the furniture, even though I've been invited at least a hundred times before. I don't jump on people when they come through the door, although I will sometimes get a bit mouthy when I'm really excited. I love to play tug of war, I'll help pick up sticks in the yard for you, but I'm not ball obsessed, so I have to be in the right mood for retrieving those balls that the kids keep throwing for me. I even try to help mow the lawn & will follow you back & forth on the lawn mower until you're done. Don't worry about my knee either....in fact with me, unlike other dogs,  you don't have to worry about my knees going out & having to have that yucky surgery cuz it's already done & I'm good to go!! I only bark when I'm excited, when people come to the door or I'm trying to get the other dogs to play. I'm a real snuggler too & I love belly rubs. And I even like to be vacuumed!! I have no separation anxiety, no fears of thunderstorms, & I didn't flinch at the fire works last night. Mom says that I'm the perfect dog for some nice family & we just have to wait patiently until they come along. Until then she likes having me around so I get to hang my leash at the door while I wait...did I mention that I will also help carry my own leash? The only thing I don't like is cats, & who needs those pesky critters anyway?
If you're interested in becoming my new family, email placementatragom [dot] org. My foster mom will cry many tears when I go to my forever home but I know they'll be tears of joy because she's so happy for me cuz I deserve the best!!
