Kiki (formerly known as Kiara) celebrates her 7th birthday this February 20th. All she wants for her birthday is a family to call her own.  She was a suburban dog at the beginning of her life. Her life was full, with a Mom and a Dad and kids! She LOVES kids!  But she doesn't like cats.  When her family moved to the country, it seemed to be the perfect place.  So much to do....the perfect place for a dog. But there were cats there too.  Grrrrrrrr.... Kiki hates those darned cats. Unfortunately, Kiki had to go.  So RAGOM gave her a temporary home, and eventually found what they thought was her forever home.  But that home situation changed too and through no fault of Kiki's, she is looking for a new home again.

So...now Kiki is spending some time with us, in our home.  She and our resident dog, Sydney get along fine.  They share that warm spot on the floor where the sun comes in.  They share Mom and Dad and the back seat of the car, but they are not so much interested in sharing toys or treats so we have seen a few tense moments when they have shared their views on just who should get their way.  They both lost THAT argument because the coveted thing goes away if you can't agree, but once it is away, they go back to sharing that warm sun spot, and life is peaceful.

Kiki has a lovely demeanor.  She is gentle and quiet most of the time.  Her tail is ALWAYS wagging!  She hardly ever barks, which in my book makes her a winner already, since Sydney has MUCH to say, MUCH of the time.  Kiki is very cooperative and comes when she is called and knows basic commands. (sit, down etc....) She is a wonderful companion animal...loves to lie down beside your feet.  She puts her head on your lap and looks up at you with her soulful eyes and you can't help but pet her, which of course, she knew would happen.    If you get down on the floor with her, she is in your lap before you know it.   She puts her paw on yours and nuzzles your arm and your heart just melts, and you melt into her.  Who wouldn't want to come home from a hard day at work, to this friend?   She loves to go for walks and behaves very well on the leash.  She has a gentle leader, but I have not found it necessary to use it.  She loves to play fetch, and loves to walk in the woods and sniff.

My sense is that she would be happier as a single dog with NO cats.  She loves her human and wants to be first in line for everything.  A fenced in yard would be preferable since she has a pretty high prey instinct and is likely to give chase to anything she thinks she can get to.  On our walks, she shows a high interest in anything that moves...deer, squirrels.....leaves.  But I can't think of a better family dog than Kiki.  She will love and play with your children, whatever age you have....that great dog many of us remember having as a kid.   She is very gentle and respectful of your home, and best of all, she gives as much or more love than she gets....the typical golden that we all love.  She deserves to have that chance to be part of a loving family again.  Are you that family?
