King 05-423

Profile

12/13/05: King has arrived at my home - we picked him up last night and what a wonderful dog he is! He is a reddish brown in color with a tail that does not stop wagging! He met my 2 resident dogs without incident and they are having lots of fun today playing together. King is a NM UTD with some mild allergies (takes meds for it) and some hip dysplasia that we are going to get checked out at the vet on Thursday. He already took to sleeping in our bed last night - and has won the hearts of our 3 little kids (he is great with them!!!). He is very gentle and just wants a family to love him - I promise he will love you back! I will send vet info in a couple days.

It is with broken hearts that we write to say that our good boy King was euthanized today. King came to us from RAGOM in 2006. He quickly managed to make a place for himself amidst two resident goldens, and a place in the hearts of his mom and dad. He loved his racquetball and his food, and just taking in the world on a nice day.

A week ago we noticed he was having a harder time than usual going down steps, and he began turning away food. We learned that he had, unbeknownst to us, severe spondylosis that was finally impinging on his spinal cord. He quickly became unable to stand or control his bowels.

Today he peacefully went to sleep, with his favorite racquetball nearby, and mom and dad holding him close and telling him what a good boy he was and how much we loved him. We pray he is again running pain-free wherever it is that good dogs go. We miss him terribly, and hope someday we'll all play together again.

We wanted to let everyone know how well King (05-423) is doing. King will have been living with us for 3 years next month, and he has become a true member of our family. Things got off to something of a rocky start, introducing him to our 2 resident goldens. Zeke, especially, was used to being top dog, and apparently King was too. But the boys seemed to have worked things out and have become great buddies. Along with Zoe, they keep the place in constant motion. We’ve attached a couple of photos.

The first is a “formal portrait” of the golden triangle: King, Zeke and Zoe (l to r).

The second is King engaged in what we call his yoga: he lies on his back, holds a ball at arm’s length, and just lies there staring at it for a minute or two – then he drops it, catches it in his mouth, and starts the whole process over again. This often goes on for quite a while. We’re not sure what it means, but you can tell from the picture that he has fun doing it.

King is a wonderful dog – always happy, loving and obedient. We feel privileged to have him. Thanks, RAGOM.

Wow - King has really settled in here at our home. He is such a great boy! He loves our 2 other dogs and is just happy to be here! He loves to be talked to and is just so content to lay down on my kitchen rug and watch me cook or do dishes. He wants to be where everyone else is - just for the pure company of being with other people. He is doing awesome on his medicine, he started taking an anti-inflamatory med that has really improved his daily movements.....like my husband says, he just seems so much more "sprite" now! He enjoys hanging out on our deck and watching all the neighborhood dogs say hello to him. He really just wants a family to love him, give him treats and give him a good back rub now and then! He would be a wonderful, wonderful addition to a loving home - I would love to get him settled in his forever home....please let me know if you have room in your heart for this wonderful creature.
