Knute 08-459

Profile

Hello, Everyone! I would like to introduce Knute (It's pronounced "K-noot". It rhymes with "flute"). He is a 4 1/2 year old PB golden that weighs 70 pounds. He has a beautiful, dark golden coat and spectacular amber eyes. He is kind of camera shy, so we are still trying to get some good pictures! Knute went to the vet to get checked out on Monday, Oct. 6th and rode in the car wonderfully. He just sat down and enjoyed the ride! He is up to date on all his shots and heartworm/fecal tests all came back negative. Yeah! Knute went back to the vet on Thursday, the 10th to get neutered. The surgery went well and he is taking it easy for the next 10 days until he is fully healed.

Knute came to RAGOM after living in a garage most of his life. He did have an older "golden" brother, but that dog lived inside. Knute is working on some social skills with the resident dog, Savannah. He is a very sweet dog and would definitely be a GREAT only dog for a family out there. Is that you?

Let me tell you a little bit about Knute... Knute really enjoys being around people. He likes to pick up your hand with his nose as to say "Pet me, please." Knute loves to go on walks and does a nice job on the Gentle Leader. He will carry around a tennis ball like it's a pacifier...too precious! Knute knows his name and "sit" very well. He will also come when he is called, but I think that's more because he wants to be around people! Knute only had a couple accidents in the house and that was really FM's fault. For the most part, he does a quiet whimper to signal he would like to use the restroom. Once he is outside, he goes quickly. Knute is not crate trained, but does well in the mud room with a baby gate while foster mom and dad are at work. He doesn't counter surf and allows foster mom and dad to eat dinner in peace. Knute has been sleeping on the floor of our bedroom and hasn't tried to jump onto the bed. He just curls up and goes to bed right next to us. He has been around a few kids ages 6-12 and did very well. Cats and smaller children are unknown at this point. Knute's forever home would probably be one where he is the only dog. He just wants all the attention that a human family can give! His foster home doesn't have a fence, so he is on a tether when outside. I'm sure he would love a house that has a fence so he can be free to explore, but it is not necessary.

We have only had Knute for a week, but have already seen what a wonderful dog he is. He is all things golden: beautiful, sweet, happy, playful. Need I say more? If you would like to meet Knute, please contact placement.

From Knute's former FM...

I just wanted to update everyone on our very first foster, Knute.  We got him over two years ago, my husband and I drove 4 1/2 hours one way to South Dakota to pick him up and in the following weeks, found the perfect forever home for him.  He has enjoyed the best golden life a dog could ask for.  He travels everywhere with his Daddy.  We found Knute living in a garage for his entire first 5 years.  Since he grew up in a garage, he wasn't a very socialized dog.  He was sweet, but scared.  Forrest took him and they have been inseparable ever since.

Forrest called me a couple months ago to inform me that Knute has been diagnosed with cancer.  Just breaks my heart.  He's only 7 years old and deserves so much more.  In true Forrest fashion, he is doing everything to keep Knute comfortable and happy for whatever time he has left.

We had the opportunity to visit our sweet Knute yesterday.  He looks awesome!  His coat is shiny and he is just as playful as they come.  I gave him a toy and he immediately took it to the snow bank--dirt and all--and started rolling and playing, then he'd come up and give us love, then go back to his snow bank.  What a different dog!

I'm writing this update not only to ask that you keep Knute and Forrest in your thoughts in the coming months, but also to highlight what rescue is all about.  This is a dog that many people would have given up on, but not RAGOM and certainly not Forrest.  Thank you, Forrest, for finding the special something inside Knute and taking a chance.  He will forever be grateful for the golden life you have given him.

Please enjoy the updated pictures from yesterday's visit.  Knute, you will always have a special place in our hearts.  We love you!!

Hi Everyone! It's me, Knute, again. I couldn't wait to tell you about my experience yesterday. I had my very first bath...ever! First I got to go on a car ride--which I LOVE. Then we pulled up in the parking lot, I started to get a little scared because I have never been in a parking lot before. My FM was there to make me feel better and pet me. I walked so great on the Gentle Leader and we went right in to the bath place. It turns out getting a bath wasn't that bad. I also got my nails and ears cleaned up. I look so handsome now. I'm ready for you to see me.

It's kind of funny because as soon as we got home, I played outside with resident dog, Savannah. I decided that I needed to roll around on my back in the grass. FM didn't like that so much, so I got up. I think she wants me to stay as clean as possible for as long as possible. Anyway, I ran around and learned this new thing called frisbee. I still haven't figured out how to bring it back so it can be thrown again. I'll keep practicing that! For now, I like to finish where Savannah started and chew on it. We do that to all the other toys, so I don't really know why a frisbee is any different! Speaking of chewing, I haven't chewed on anything that I'm not supposed to like carpet, shoes, paper from the trash, etc. I just came to my foster house knowing that! I must be golden retriever smart.

I hope you are enjoying my pictures. I'm the dark, gorgeous one! If you want to meet me, please let placement know at placement.

Hello Everyone! It's me, Knute. I am starting to settle into my new foster house. There is a resident dog that wasn't so sure of me at first, but I'm starting to play with her AND her toys. Who knew a rawhide or a stuffed duck could be so much fun? I have to tell you that I am learning to give really good kissies to my foster mom and she eats it up. Since she has been so good to me, I have stayed out of the trash and I haven't eaten anything inappropriate (socks, paper, etc.)...until just now. Sorry, I had to take a quick break from typing to have a little snack on a hand towel that foster mom left on the floor. I'm pretty sure it's not my fault if it's just lying there. Foster mom just talked to me about it and I won't be doing that again. I am really having a great time here, but I sure wish FM would stop following me with that camera! I'm starting to realize the bright orange light isn't going to hurt me, but it is still annoying. She keeps telling me that we have to take pictures so all of you can see how beautiful and sweet I am. I guess I'll try to do better for all of you. She did get a couple...so take a look and enjoy!

I love to cuddle with FM. Hopefully I can cuddle with you when the cold weather comes. Well, that's it for now. Just wanted to let you know that I am settling in and am ready to take the next step to my forever home. If you would like to meet me, I would LOVE to meet you. Please contact placement.
