Profile

Koda came to RAGOM to find a new home when her family was unable to take her with them on their move. Youthful for her age, Koda enjoys walking, though shorter walks would be best due to her hip displasia. Her forever family must either have another dog in the home or be committed to spending all of their time with her, as she requires companionship to stay happy and restful. Koda can live with children over 10 and cats. A physical fence is optional.

We got the best gift for the Holidays! Koda was adopted!

She has a forever home with a wonderful woman. She has lots of outside space to enjoy and her mom works from home, so there will be plenty of love and attention. Koda’s new family has four cats and a three-year-old Golden Retriever sister! Her mom has two adult sons to give Koda extra attention when they are home from college, too.

Koda’s new mom is indeed a rescue angel for opening her home and giving this gentle senior a secure home!

Koda came along to represent RAGOM at the Hollidazzle fundraising event.

She was perfect. She even allowed us to put some antlers on her for a bit – she looks just like Sven, the reindeer from Frozen!

Later that afternoon, we even took her to a taproom, and she curled up on her blanket and took a nap.

She was the perfect company for the day – she’ll go anywhere!

Koda continues to be a joy to have around the house. She is understanding the routine and follows me or the resident dogs. She really enjoys walks now. I take the girl dogs for a mile walk every noon.

Her requirements remain the same – a home where a person or dog are home to keep her anxiety manageable; a home that will feed her good food and watch for allergy symptoms; a home that helps her know what is expected by use of sign language to aid communication.

She is content to be part of a quiet home where she knows she is cared for.

Koda has become a real joy! She has adapted so well.

I take Koda and my female resident dog for a one-mile walk every day at lunch. She really enjoys walking and keeps up just fine. I think regular exercise helps keep her limber. She also gets a Cosequin chew once a day. She has no issues with waiting for treats and eating with the other dogs.

She goes wherever we go! If I am cleaning fish tanks, she follows me to my office and stays out of the way. If we are watching TV, she finds her dog bed or occasionally the couch!

What I love about her is just her chill personality – she just wants to be with us and be comfortable.

Her little white mask and expressive eyes melt our hearts. I am working on “getting in her space” so when she is resting, I just curl up close and give her lots of scratches. She usually sighs and drinks it in. I want her to know that she deserves lots of love!

She was really good about getting her feet washed with all our warm weather – the backyard is getting muddy. She let me dip her feet in the bucket and dry them without any fuss!

We continue to work on our communication with her. She clearly can hear some things – like a dog bark or when I have dropped her collar clip. So, I think certain frequencies are still in her range.

She looks to our resident dogs and our sign language to know what we want from her. Mostly she is getting comfortable with the routine and schedule, so her confidence is coming around.

Koda loves to go for walks – she gets so excited she tells us all about it. We take a short walk before work and a longer walk over lunch. She keeps up with my resident dogs just fine. Sometimes she tries to engage in a game of chase with my dogs in the backyard, but they aren’t interested. So instead, I will run around and let her chase me.

All the dogs follow me to my office. They rest quietly and follow me upstairs for coffee breaks.

Koda enjoys chewing on bones and sleeping on any of the many dog beds around the house. She sleeps quietly all night long, too! She comes to us for scratches and attention.

Koda went to the groomer on Wednesday to get all the mats cleaned out. I brush her every day to keep her coat soft. She is also getting coconut oil with her breakfast to help prevent winter itchy skin. She looks even more like a little bear now!

We continue to work on sign language, and she seems to enjoy figuring it out. We make up our own signs, but as long as we are consistent, it will mean something. We are adding "eat" and "potty" to our language. We know to touch her feet when she is sleeping to let her know we need her attention.

I think she is excited about figuring out what we want from her when she can’t hear very well. Usually, she cues off our resident dogs for what to do, but we need to be able to communicate with her.

Say Hello to Koda. She is a spunky 11-year-old Golden mix.

She is being fostered in a home with two dogs and two cats. She would really like a home with another dog to be confident when her people leave.

She loves to go for walks, but needs some help to keep from zigzagging underfoot. At her recent vet visit, it was noted she has mild hip dysplasia, so a few shorter walks are better than one long walk.

She enjoys backyard time, exploring and sniffing. She does not dig and hasn’t shown interest in wildlife.

We call her our little sun bear – because her face reminds us of a sun bear with her white mask. She really enjoys attention and scratches.

She has the softest coat – I am not sure what her mix is, but she is a soft, puffy little girl. She tolerates brushing, which is good for maintaining her coat.

She sleeps on a blanket by our bed. She only barks when she is anxious about being alone.

Koda is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She does get ear infections due to allergies. These have caused her to have hearing loss – so if you like to eat chips, don’t worry; she won’t hear you and come begging!

We are working to teaching her signs so she understands her name, "come," and "good." She is allergic to chicken, so she eats salmon and sweet potato dog food.

She is reliably housebroken. Foster Mom works from home, so I am able to get her outside every four hours.

She showed no interest in toys, but has discovered bones lately. She will resource-guard them from the cat, so we are working on making sure we keep the cat away when she has any bones in the room.

She really just needs a quiet home where she can take lots of naps and take short walks to keep her spry!
