Kyla (Kayla 20-139)

Kayla 20-139

Profile

Kayla was surrendered to RAGOM by a commercial breeder. Other than an ear infection, Kayla is a healthy girl. Because so much is new to her right now, she is timid and shy. Due to this, any children should be age 10+. Kayla requires another confident dog to learn from. She also requires a physical fence as she is a flight risk and must be kept safe. Kayla's future home must have an abundance of patience and love to guide her development into a confident house dog.

Kayla met a wonderful family a week ago. They had adopted from RAGOM years ago and were ready for another Golden. They have worked with a fearful dog before and they are very patient. Lucky Kayla will have two fur sisters to play with and learn from and she will get to go to their lake home in the summer.

Congratulations to the H family! We will miss you, Kayla!

Kayla moved to our house from her first foster’s home because her foster family took her in as a temp foster while they were waiting to get a foster dog from China. She met my dogs without any issues and she would follow any of them, especially the one who was going back into the house! These former breeder dogs always feel safer inside the house over being outside in the wide-open yard.

I was told by her first foster that she did not like the crate and found that was very true. I could not get her into the crate for anything! For the first few nights I blocked her in the kitchen with a gate that she could see through so she could watch my dogs. I had a crate in there with the door open in case she wanted to sleep in it and also had a dog bed in there. She chose the dog bed. I let her have free roam during the day and she always chose the same dog bed.

She loves having a routine so she has an idea of what will happen. Since I am home all day, the dogs have a lot of potty breaks. I ask who wants to go out and my dogs go right to the door, but Kayla stays about 10 feet back until the door is open, then she runs out. Kayla has never had an accident in the house. She has enough chew toys so she has never chewed anything inappropriate, even when I am gone.

Kayla spends most of the time on her dog bed watching everything around her. When I go into the kitchen, I can see her peeking around the corner so she can see what I am doing. She is a very easy dog to have around. She is nervous when someone walks toward her, but if no eye contact is made, she stays there. If I talk to her while walking toward her, she is ready to run, but will let me walk up and pet or brush her. We all love baby steps.

As days go by, Kayla has started following my former breeder dog, Cora, who was really shut down when she came in. A lot of things still scare Cora so Kayla is acting timid around things that never bothered her before. I have to assure her that she is OK. Here is a picture of her sharing Cora’s dog bed (Kayla is in the front).

At first Kayla was afraid of getting into the car, now she loves to go for car rides. My grandsons came over to meet Kayla and she actually went up to smell them to see who they were. I have not cat tested her yet.

Beautiful Kayla arrived at my house on August 20th. She is just the sweetest girl with a big heart and a beautiful red coat. Kayla came into RAGOM as a former breeder girl. She has not had puppies the last two years. Her surrendering family wanted her to have a home of her own and live with her own family.

Kayla has never lived inside a home since she was in a kennel while with her former family. Home life is a bit scary for her and she is not sure about all the new noises and movements that happen in a home. She is still decompressing from her move and will need time to adjust to her new surroundings.

She wants to be near people and my resident dog and tries so hard to be brave and come close. At this time, she just likes to watch from a distance. She will require another dog to learn from.

Kayla had a wellness exam on August 28th. Her overall health is good and she only had an ear infection in her right ear. She is now on medication for her ear. I was told that she was just the sweetest at her appointment.

Miss Kayla will be ready for adoption once her spay is complete and she has had time to decompress.
