Lacey (Alaina 08-357)

Profile

Hi Everyone! I am Alaina but my foster family calls me Lacey because of my delicate features. I came to Minnesota from a puppy mill in MO with 4 of my sisters and some other dogs on July 26th. When I arrived I was covered in ticks, suffering from a severe infestation of worms and very afraid of people. On my first vet visit Dr. Gale was very concerned with the dehydration and anemia caused by the worms and ticks and the side effects of the infestation. I got a liter of fluids and a wormer to take for the next three days. After three days my stomach was feeling better but I was still very afraid of my foster mom and dad. I have found a spot in their bedroom that has become my safe spot.

Last Thursday I went back to see Dr. Gale and she said I was looking much better. I have gained 7 pounds in the last week and a half, and my dehydration was gone and my anemia was improving but she did say that I have a couple of infections that we need to get cleared up before my spay surgery on 8/21/08. I am slowly learning that my foster family only wants to give me love. I have learned to walk on a leash well but I am afraid of things that move quickly and loud voices.

Right now I am writing this from my foster parents' lake home and I really love the quiet and slower lifestyle of the lake. I have found a safe place here and really like to walk on the road when there are not many cars to scare me. My foster dad says I must be getting more comfortable with them because he saw me wag my tail for the first time.
