Profile

Welcome to RAGOM, Miss Laney!  Laney is an approximately 4 year old female Golden Retriever.  She is a large girl, weighing in at 86 lbs.  She could definitely benefit from losing some weight so we are starting to work on that.  She is a medium colored golden and was deemed very healthy at her vet appointment.  Laney will be going in next week to be spayed and microchipped, then she will be ready for her forever home.

Laney knows sit and lie down and is housetrained.  She hasn't had any accidents since she arrived on Sunday.  She also does great being left out while you are gone.  No chewing or destruction.  Laney is starting to settle in and getting more comfortable with the clan.  She gets along really well with our cats and our dog, Mia.  Also, she and Dutchess are starting to get used to each other.  I think they both want to be the boss of the other and have done fine so far working that out on their own.  Laney shows no resource guarding or food guarding towards people but we have seen some of that towards the other dogs.  It works best if she is separate from the other dogs when she eats because she is a slower, more dainty eater and the other two girls gobble down their food and then stand too close to her, salivating over her food. No wonder she gets annoyed with them near her food!

Laney likes to play ball and has done really well with the gentle leader. She enjoys going for walks so between playing ball and a forever home that is really committed to walking her daily, the weight should not be too hard to get off.  She loves people and always wants to be petted like a typical golden.  She is very sweet and a very laid back girl who prefers to nap when she is not out and about walking.  Laney is a good dog and we have enjoyed having her so far.  She will make a wonderful pet for some lucky family.

Updates

Sorry it has been so long since we have written an update for Laney.  It has been a busy couple of weeks.  Laney is doing great.  She is all healed up from her spay and is doing great at our house.  She seems very comfortable with our dogs and has loved any people she has met.

Since we have had her for awhile, I will let you know some more about Laney.  She loves people and only wants to get petted but has a bad habit of putting her paw up on you when she wants attention.  We are working on making sure she keeps it down, otherwise she does not get petted.  She does not get into the garbage or up on counters and has never had an accident.  Laney is only a barker when something interesting passes the house but especially likes to bark ferociously at semi’s, boats, and dogs that walk by.  She will not bark at other dogs when she is the one on the walk, only when they are walking by her place.  We think she just needs time to get used to new dogs because she gets along great with our two and got along great with my parents dog as well.  She loves nylabones and stuffed toys and likes to play fetch with her stuffed toys.  She likes going for walks and does best with her gentle leader on.  Her favorite activity is a nap in the sun.  She gets up on the furniture once in  awhile, but doesn’t spend her day up on it like the rest of my pack.  She likes riding in the car with you and would always like to be in the shotgun seat.  She knows sit and will usually come when you call her and we are working on wait and down.  She is doing well so far.  When she is really excited and happy she will smile at new people.  If you didn't know dogs it would scare you but she is just so so happy that she has to smile.

This weekend we learned a new thing about Laney.  She LOVES the water.  We went camping and the girls all had a blast.  Dutchess and Laney loved the water and Laney especially loved retrieving sticks.  It was so fun to watch them swimming and chasing each other around; they were having such a great time.

Laney is a very lucky girl and will be having a special visitor coming to see her on Saturday.  She is very excited and will let everyone know how it goes. Here are some pictures from this weekend...

Laney is doing great at our house. She has still not had any accidents and is doing good with free roam when we are gone for short periods of time. She and her foster sister, Dutchess, are getting along a lot better and are even starting to play with each other. They love to play fetch with stuffed toys and then wrestle the toy away from each other.

Laney had a good 4th of July. We went to my parents and she got to meet lots of people who gave her lots of pets and love. She also got to meet my parents dog, Harold, and was very gentle with him (he is a little guy at 14 lbs). She did not like the fireworks though and we think she has some slight storm anxiety. She does some whining and just wanted to lay in the bedroom on her bed and not come out while the fireworks were going on. Nothing serious but I can tell she gets nervous when she hears all the loud noises.

She is still doing great on her walks with the gentle leader and I am anxious to see if she has lost any weight when she goes in to see the vet for her spay tomorrow. We will let you know how everything goes once she is home tomorrow evening. I know she will do just great.

Here are a couple of pictures of Laney and Dutchess playing.
