Luca is one of the newbies to RAGOM.

She was found in a barn on a abandoned hobby farm, skinny and very dehydrated and full of hot spots.  She ended up in animal control where they took her under their wings tended to her needs and got her back onto the road to recovery.  Once her time was up they contacted RAGOM to take in this sweet girl and now she is a city girl :).

She is a golden mix looks to be golden/lab to me, estimated to be 1 to 2 yrs of age, 50lbs, crate trained is about 90% potty trained :)  She is great around kids and other dogs..not sure about cats.   I think from being abandoned, she has a hard time leaving my side.  She is a complete velcro dog!!!  After being her for 5 days she is finally learning to go outside to go potty without having me in sight.   I have been testing her to see how she does in the house without being in her crate while I am gone.  So far I have been able to leave her for about 4 hours :).  But that is making sure there are no shoes out or anything she might want to chew on as she is still a puppy when it comes to chewing.  When you come home she gets so excited that she runs around until she finds something to put in her mouth, then runs circles around you... tail wagging non stop :).
She is very smart...knows sit, stay, shake and lay down and kennel.

Luca is just the sweetest girl...she loves people and would make a great additional family member :)

Updates

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Good morning everyone.....FM has been pretty sick, has been in and out of the of the hospital so she feels pretty bad about not getting my adoption finalized and keeping up on my update so I am writing my own update for her today to get the ball rolling.

First off...while living at FM home with my two legged sis Ellie, my 4 legged siblings Billy (former RAGOM alumni) and Sidney, I have shown them that not only I am a very sweet girl who has managed to worm my way into FM and sis heart, but also that I have amazing hunting skills :).  My foster sis took her gun safety class this fall and is planning her first big trip out to three family farms that have over 900 acres South Dakota this year for pheasant hunting and guess who is going to be her hunting partner?  Me!!!!!!  Sis and I are going to take some field training classes this summer to get ready to show the guys on how it is really done...Yes...we will be the only girls :)  FM does not have the heart to to hunt so she will be sending her two Tomboys to go walk the fields with the guys.

FM always reminds me that I am a very lucky girl...and how I was meant to be part of their family.  I first came into RAGOM found in a barn on a hobby farm that was in foreclosure.  I was abused, dehydrated and ready to eat anything that moved.  FM was set up to take another gal on the daily plea, but ended up taking me in because somebody has some interest in the gal down in Iowa.  So mom took a ride over to the shelter July 5th since I became "Urgent" and scooped me up.

I came in with not so desirable habits, and still working very hard to correct some of them.  FM thinks whoever had me as a puppy taught me to play very rough so that has been kind of a long process to overcome, but I am doing much better.  And I have not jumped the fence in about a month now :)  One habit that I have no desire to drop is running around with shoes, remote controls, dog dishes what ever I can find to put in my mouth.  My family kind of gets frustrated when they are ready to walk out the door and cannot find their other shoe.  That is when I hear my voice loud and clear...FM still walks around with mismatched slippers as I have somehow managed to lose one of her favorite pair.   I guess that is what she gets for leaving her closet door open and having the need to have more shoes than she could possibly wear.  It is like Chrismas morning everytime I sneak into her room and find that door hanging wide open for me.

I have also showed FM that I have natural nursing skills as I have not left FM's side since she has not been feeling well.  I always have my eyes on her and laying as close as I can to let her know that I am here for her and everything is going to be ok :).  It is my special way of saying of saying I am sorry for everthing I have chewed up and lost, but remember I am still a puppy :)

I wanted to thank RAGOM for taking me in since I am not I am not a purebred and really look like a lab.  FM and I ran into a couple at the dog park the other day who had a girl who looked just like me.  She was a lab and her her name was Lovely Lady. Just like my new new name...Lady!!!  FM still cannot figure out how my sis came up with that since I really do not act like a lady, but I am my sis' new BFF so mom let Ellie name me.  Who knows maybe I will prove her wrong one day, but since I will be following Ellie's footsteps there is a very small chance that that  it will ever happen ;).

Life is good for me now...I have a mom and a sis who love me very much now.  I get daily XOXO and learning that I don't have to tighten my body up every time somebody reaches out touch me afraid that somebody is going to hurt me,  love love love my walks through the neighborhood and trips to the dog park to make new friends.  Whenever I see my leash I get soooo excited.  My only wish is that all homeless animals could be so lucky as us RAGOM kids and other rescue groups that reach out to us to give us a second chance at life.  Thank you so much to all previous adopters and homes that are waiting to take us in....I know that we can come in with issues, but with your love and patience we can show you that we do have the potential to add the love and companionship you were looking for to add to your family :)

Luca is still looking for her forever home :).  The last family who came to visit her thought she was adorable, but thought with young kids that she was still a little to mouthy.  Luca is still very much in the puppy stage, very mouthy and tends to bite a little to hard at times.  Not in a aggressive way, just gets a little to excited and loses her train of thought.  We are working on this, but sometimes she forgets :).  At this point I think it would be better if Luca went to a home without small children...at least until she figures out to play gently.

Last night we all went to the dog park...she did great around other dogs and just LOVES the water....and a very fast swimmer at that.  But I learned something new about her...when she sees something on the other side of the fence...she is gone..up and over the fence.  Climbed it just like a ladder  I have a 4 ft wooden picket fence so this was a new one for me.  She does geat with a wooden picket fence, but a cyclone is a different story.  So that being said Miss Luca needs to go to a home with a wooden fence.

Luca also has been to the vet for allergies...she seems to do well with benedryl, but sometimes that seems to still not help, but for the most part it does the trick ;).

Luca loves her daily walks, playing fetch and the yard and hanging out with the pack.  Her new BFF is a adorable blue pittie that I am fostering for another organization.  They are both around the same age and full of energy...perfect for one another :)  They love to wrestle then take naps together all curled up in balls laying right next to one another :).  I think they can relate to one another. They were both abandoned in the country and left to fend for themselves...But thanks to RAGOM and MN Pitbull Rescue they are both now living the good life :)
