Lance (Harry 08-347)

Profile

Harry has been with us for about 5 days now and we have fallen in love.  Our children ages 4, 10 & 13 have dubbed him Sir Lancelot aka Lance.  I have no idea why, but it seems to have stuck.

Harry weighs in at 35 pounds.  His mother was a 55 lb. Golden and his dad a 16 lb. Bichon Frise.  He has the golden personality, without the golden shedding.

Harry came to RAGOM without a name and will need some help getting to know his name when you adopt him.  So, the beauty of it is, you can pick a name you’ve always adored.

Harry has been such a sweetheart.  As you see, he loves our kids.  He is a typical puppy and he will run and chase them.  Sometimes his exuberance may be a little much for our 4 year old, but she has learned how to turn around, put out her hand and use a firm, deep, “no”.

After the first few days, he has ignored our birds.  He shows great interest in our guinea pigs on the opposite side of the gate, at the basement stairs and has attempted to chase our outdoor cats at every chance he gets.  I don’t know that he would hurt cats, but he would love the chase.  He also seems fond of chasing birds in the yard.  Again, I think with time and exposure, he would become indifferent, but it would definitely need some supervision.

I would also HIGHLY recommend that his new family take him through obedience class.  He seems to have a LOT of love previously, but since he didn’t have a name, I am not sure how many rules he ever had to follow.  He sometimes seems to exhibit a little bit of an “I can’t hear you” attitude.

Also, Harry would do great in a home with other dogs.  He came from a home with 2 littermates and his parents.   So he has been around dogs his whole life.  It is too early for me to tell if he would prefer dominant or submissive roommates.  Our dog is extremely submissive and they get along great.   Yet when our dog play barks (very loudly), I have seen Harry lie down immediately.

Harry was neutered yesterday and is back to his perky, lively self 24 hours later.

So, if you are looking for a “golden boy” personality in an economy size that won’t leave the “golden furballs” in your corners – this little man is perfect for you.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I have been away so long. I have just been so "doggone" busy!!

We had the birthday party for my 2 legged sisters. Wow! Was that a blast, kids galore! My furbutt brother and I couldn't get enough. I was such a good boy though. I didn't jump on anyone and didn't even try to steal any of the kids food. I was so tired at the end of the day, I just curled up and crashed.

Then the next weekend my 2 legged Grandpa and Grandma came from Illinois. They brought their 9 month old chow/ retriever boy and we had a blast. I also learned a different way to play with my brother. Up until then I thought the only way to play was just to run as fast as we could and chase each other. But after watching my cousin "Smokey" and my brother "Zeke" play, I have now perfected the art of wrestling. I think my brother almost likes this better. Since he is 8, I think the running wore him out a lot faster. I don't know if my Mom and Dad think it is so great when we wrestle in the house though, we get a little wild at times if you know what I mean.

Mom says I am going to have to go in for a haircut soon. She said she would try it on her own, but she is afraid it would look so bad that no one would adopt me when she got done.

My potty training has been going great and I know my name, Lance, very well now and come almost every time. I also have gotten better about going in my crate when I am asked. Those treats are pretty tempting!

I am just waiting for my Forever Family to come and get me. My two legged brother asked my Mom again last night, "Can't we just keep him, please?" So, please hurry before you are too late. I think the temptation is getting to them.

Talk soon,
Lancey

Hi Everybody,   I just got back from a long walk with my foster fam and thought I would let everyone know how I am doing.    First, I have to tell you that I hope my new home has air conditioning.  I know where the saying "dog days of summer" comes from.  It is so toasty that all a dog can do is lay around.  Unfortunately, since I am still such a puppy, I can only lay around for a few minutes and then I have to get up and see what I might be missing.   I still haven't convinced my family to let me sleep on the furniture with them, but I keep trying.  I am soooo cute, that I think I could get my way if I am just a little more persistent.  They do have this really cool bed for me that looks like a giant bean bag and all of my people lay on it with me anyway.  So I guess if I can't beat them, I'll join them.   Friday morning I go to get my stitches out from my "little procedure" I had done 2 weeks ago.  Then I am ready to go.  I also hope my new home has LOTS of toys and appropriate things for me to chew.  I like my rawhide bones and cow hooves and love anything that squeaks.  My big golden brother and I share our "chewies" very nicely.  Sometimes we pull them out of each others mouths.  I even let my 4 year old, 2 legged sister take them away without a complaint.  I know she will always give them back.   I must say, I am still having a little trouble figuring out the whole bathroom thing.  Why these people think I should "do my job" when they have me tied to them and are standing there watching me, is beyond me.  I would much prefer to run free in their yard and do what I need to do.  Sometimes I forget to go and then can't hold it anymore when I get in.  I know I can learn this, but it is just going to take me a little time.   I think I am starting to understand my name and this word "come" that they use all the time.  They always give me something to eat when I run up to them.  Unfortunately, I hate to tell them, but I am not all that excited about the treats they give me.  I eat them because it seem to be the thing to do, but I don't think they are all they are cracked up to be.    Well, I know someone out there is looking for a sweet fellow with a lot of spunk and personality.  I am comedian, companion and couch potato all rolled into one.   P.S.  Sorry if the pictures aren't the greatest, I just have such a hard time sitting still when my family brings out the camera.  Picture 1 is me with one of my favorite "squeakies".  Picture 2 is me getting a bath from my 2 legged siblings. Picture 3 is me hanging out on my "big guy" bed.
