Lego 06-221

Profile

5/18/06: Lego is a 4 month old Golden who was found as a stray near Rapid City, South Dakota. He has a beautiful light-colored coat and he is just starting to grow some feathers. He weighs 40 pounds and has some big feet, so he will be a big boy.

Today Lego was pulled from an over-croweded shelter along with Leo 06-222 and Snuggles 06-223 and the three of them made a long trip across two states. We are lucky enough to spend some time with this boy during his first night in foster care. Lego, Leo and Snuggles gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "shelter stench" and Lego had to endure THREE baths tonight (oatmeal shampoo, tomato juice and oatmeal shampoo again)! He was easily the most patient foster we have ever had when it comes to the initial bathing. He also tolerated my extensive brushing in between trips to the tub. Now he smells faintly of oatmeal and tomato, but that is like a delicate perfume compared to his original scent. Lego would like everyone to know that while he was patient with the bathing, it's not his idea of a good time. He does, however, enjoy the extra snuggling that he's getting now that he doesn't stink.

Lego has played very nicely with our resident Golden. It was also reported that he played very nicely with all of the other dogs he met along his journey today. He is respecting our toy poodle who is "queen bee" of the canines in this house. He hasn't paid any attention to the cats and they aren't hiding from him, so this is a good sign (they usually do a fantastic job of judging which dogs might try to eat them and hightail it to the basement). Between baths, Lego was having a great time "fishing" for the helicopter seed pods from our maple tree that had fallen in to our dog swimming pool. I'd imagine that if you have a house or cabin on a lake, he would (pretend to) be a great minnow fisherman!

Updates

Sunday, February 5, 2012

I’m finally sending in this long overdue update on Lego (06-221).

What can I say about our angel pup?  He’s the best cuddler/lover dog anyone could ever hope for.  When he sits, he leans into you so much that he’d fall over if you were to move.  He sleeps right between us in bed and cannot ever seem to get enough petting.  He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.  He even lets the cats rule over him.

He loves being a country dog.  He loves our little river and spends a lot of time swimming in the summer.  He chases and chases birds, then cools off with a swim.  He’s all country boy.

I had always wanted to do agility, so I decided to “go for it” and signed up for an agility class with Lego approximately one year after we adopted him.  We have learned so much together.  I was soooo proud of him when we scored 100/100 on our first few competition runs and brought home the blue ribbons to prove it.  His RAGOM foster mom was even there to watch him.  That was very special.  He has earned seven agility titles so far.  He is competing at the Excellent (top) level.

Here are some links to videos of him competing in agility:

He is such a happy dog.  I also attached some photos.  Some of the photos include his “brother” named Colt (RAGOM #05-06-309).  You can see what a happy guy he is!

Whom ever let this lil guy out of their sight sure missed out!  He’s pure joy.  We’re so lucky to have him in our lives.

Lego with a Friend :-)

Tuesday, June 27, 2006

Typical golden morning on the horse ranch. Lego and Colt are literally attached at the hip and love each other so much. Can you imagine a better life then getting up in the morning, running through the pastures, chasing birds, jumping into the river, and spending the day with your best bud. Not everyone gets to see what heaven is like...thankfully, they are giving us a peak.

Happy Memorial Weekend from Mr. Lego and his favorite pilgrim…yes, it survived. Yes, it's still the most annoying toy…Happy Thanksgiving OLKS…it lost the F. Yes, Arthur is having nightmares of the little voodoo doll chasing him around. Another small miracle, Lego's fecal test was negative. I have never had a pup who didn't have worms or parasites…my mouth hit the floor when I heard that.

Lego is still coughing and sneezing, darn it. Yesterday, I brought Lego and Oakley to my softball game. Mr. Lego is in training to be the next Wal-Mart greeter. What a social butterfly - he just ran up to everyone for love and he didn't jump up on anyone and was amazingly gentle around the little ones. Lego even made friends with the other softball team…little traitor! People were amazed by his gentle nature and guessed him to be about 8 months old. They were totally shocked when I said he is about 4 months old…oh yeah, he's going to be a big guy.

What impressed me the most was all the non-dog people rolling in the grass with Lego. It takes a special dog to charm non-dog people, if you know what I mean. After the game we were surrounded by people asking about Lego…you should have seen when I told them he wasn't my dog and that I'm his foster mom. People always think that if you have a well behaved dog that it's your own dog and not a foster dog. Lego made me very proud because he fooled people into believing that I'm the world's best dog trainer…all I taught him was how to chase his tail.

Let's move on to more goofy stories. On Wednesday, we were watching American Idol and all the Goldens were wrestling on the floor. When Ryan Seacrest announced male vocal award and they started going through the nominations (they got to the guy who actually won the award), all of a sudden Lego jumped up and ran over to the TV. What more can you say about a pup who appreciates really bad singing…other then I love you. So now we sing for Lego and he will come running if you hit the right note.

I want to thank all the families who are interested in Lego for being so patient. Don't worry, as much as I love this special guy, I won't adopt him :)

Lego went to the vet this morning and was brought completely up to date on shots and microchipped. He was scheduled to be neutered, but we found out that his goopy eye is a result of eyelid entropion, so we moved his surgery back to Monday when they can repair his eyelid as well.

Lego has been the perfect house guest. Before bed last night, both cats came up and gave him a big sniffing once-over and he didn't bat an eyelash. He was so tired from his big adventure yesterday that he slept straight through for 6 hours last night without a peep.
