Lena 05-246

Profile

8/20/05: Lena is adjusting to her new foster home quite well. She came from a farm where she wasn't on a leash, but she's very good at walking with a leash in a city park. Her right front foot is slowing her down, because she has a cut between the toes, but the vet will be checking that to make sure it's healing OK. Lena is also overweight, so she gets tired out easily, but with regular exercise, she'll lose that weight and will be feeling better soon.

She's a very sweet senior purebred Golden Retriever -- she'll turn 10 in September -- with an easygoing attitude and very good manners. Lena gets along well with the other dog in the foster home (a Golden/yellow Lab mix), as well as the cat. She's anxious in thunderstorms and at loud noises like guns and firecrackers. That's how she hurt her foot -- she was kept in the garage during a recent thunderstorm, and she cut her foot on the garage door trying to get out. She also has separation anxiety, which has been worse since March when her best friend, an 11-year-old Golden, passed away. She will do best in a forever home with people who are home a lot.

Lena will be a gentle, affectionate companion for someone who is looking for a very sweet, loving dog. If you are interested in sharing your love with our senior girl please contact Placementatragom [dot] org.

Lena's foot is healing nicely, so she isn't limping any more, and she's walking much faster. She's enjoying walks in the park -- she gets 2 long walks and 1 short walk a day -- and she's already getting into better shape.

At first, Lena was hesitant to get out of the car whenever we went anywhere. But now she's feeling more adventurous and she gets out of the car much more easily. She LOVES to go for rides!

For the first couple of days at the foster home, Lena and the other dog were setting limits with each other with a tiny bit of growling. But now they're getting along great. Lena leaves the cat alone and is still very well-behaved. Her foster mom has only left her and the other dog alone once, and that was for a couple hours. They handled it beautifully! It helps both of them to deal with their separation anxiety when another dog is in the house.

Lena went to the vet and got all checked out. Her bloodwork is normal and everything is fine except for an ear infection. So she gets drops in her ears twice a day. And she's taking antibiotics so that cut in her foot doesn't get infected. She's had a bath and she's had her nails trimmed, so now she looks even more beautiful!

Lena is very easygoing and a pure joy to have around. She's looking forward to finding her forever home, where she'll give that special family a whole lot of love. All she asks for is to be well taken care of, exercised regularly, fed a reasonable amount so she can lose weight, and to be respected for being the wonderful, wise girl she is.
