Lena was adopted last weekend to the S. family. She has a fur brother, Max, who is just a few weeks older than Lena. Max is a Labrador Retriever mix who loves to play fetch. Hopefully he will teach Lena the fine art of playing fetch, too.
Lena struck gold with the S. Family as her new dad is retired. Her mom works a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon. Due to the COVID-19 scare her new mom is at home to help ease Lena’s transition to her new family.
Lena also has two cats in her new home. I am told that one of the cats has taken a serious liking to Lena and loves to lay next to her.
My crew and I really miss our Lena girl. She was our snuggle buddy. We wish her and the S. family the best with our Lena girl!

They say a rescue dog begins to settle in and really show their personality in three months. I can attest to some of the changes that we see in Lena. She definitely has a voice when it comes to feeding time, and when I get home from work and she is excited to go outside. She barks and spins around in circles in pure excitement.
Lena loves to play outside with her pal Bella. She also just loves to romp in the snow. Our latest snow was the perfect kind to play in as it was light and very fluffy. The one drawback to the new snow is that Lena is seriously due for a pedicure/paw trimming. She brings in snow clumped between her toes and if one is not wearing shoes or slippers, well you better be prepared for wet socks.
Lena did go to a RAGOM Meet & Greet in Shakopee last month. She also attended a big RAGOM dog birthday party for some of Foster Dad's previous fosters. And this coming Saturday Lena will be at the RAGOM 35th Anniversary Party at the Hyatt in downtown Minneapolis.
The areas that we are working on with Lena are housetraining and building her confidence in new situations. Having Lena attend Meet & Greets and going to different places while assuring her everything is okay helps to build her confidence level.

It's been a busy couple of months since Lena came in to rescue. She has quite a tale to tell of her Christmas Day adventure, which you can read about in a few paragraphs.
Lena was spayed a week before Thanksgiving and was doing well. Foster Dad's family came to his house just days after her spay to celebrate Thanksgiving early. Lena did well with meeting the family and would seek out hugs and scratches for attention. She did retreat to a quiet safe spot when the family moved about too fast or were too loud for her.
On Christmas Eve, Foster Dad loaded Lena and the three resident dogs and departed for Worthington to celebrate the holiday with family. We had Lena in a harness and a slip lead as we were both in an unfamiliar location and an unfenced yard for Lena.
On Christmas Day in the late afternoon Lena escaped from another family member while Foster Dad was away for a bit. By the time I arrived home she had been missing for nearly an hour and it was getting dark.
RAGOM, Lost Dog Team, and The Retrievers were quickly notified and plans sprung into action to help find Lena. Foster Dad's nephew, Detective Brandon Peil of the Worthington Police Department, was notified and even more plans to find Lena were quickly activated.
Foster Dad and Bella and my brothers Mike and Scott and their families all set out walking the streets near the area Lena went missing from. Because it was dark, she likely found a quiet spot and hunkered down. More help came from social media posts on Facebook and Lost Dogs.
Foster Dad and Bella hit the streets again at 5 AM hoping to find Lena or at least see her. I walked the entire area for about an hour and then went to get Lost Dog flyers made. From 7 to 8 AM my family and I were busy posting the flyers.
Just after 8 AM a Good Samaritan (Dave Frisch) driving on West Lake Road by Vogt Park saw something bobbing in the open water. He had seen the Facebook posts and immediately called the Worthington Police.
Officer Tyler Olson responded to the call. Detective Peil called my brother Mike, who called me, and we raced to the scene, which was about a mile from where she went missing. Officer Olson and Mike safely pulled Lena out of the water and we brought her home to slowly warm her back up.
She was closely looked at to see if she might have any frost bite and her breathing was monitored in case of water in her lungs leading to pneumonia.
Thankfully Lena was found safely and is no worse for the wear. A truly team effort by the Worthington Police Department, local Worthington residents, and Lena's Foster Dad and his entire family!

Please welcome Lena to the RAGOM family! Lena is a retired breeder dog who was rescued through an auction sale on October 26.
Lena will be 2 years old on November 30. She and resident dog, Bella, are best of buds. Outside and inside they can often be found playing chase and wrestling around. She is also gently carrying toys from one room of the house to the other. And a few mornings I have found my slippers near her pet bed (thankfully not chewed, just moved).
Lena had her initial vet appointment on Thursday evening. She weighs in at just under 60 pounds. She is very healthy and just needs to have her ears cleaned and flushed a few times and her teeth brushed to remove some tartar. She will also need to be spayed as soon as we can get her scheduled.
