Valentine Hugs and Kisses! Happy Valentine's Day from L.

We have a new boy at our house and, wow, is he a beauty! His name is Leo, he about 4 years old, a Golden/Lab mix and recently neutered. I just picked him up yesterday, so he needs some time to get comfortable and see the Vet. I just wanted to get the word out because, really, this boy is a dream! He is potty-trained, crate-trained, very obedient and a huge love!! He is just a wriggling, tail-wagging, kissing sweetheart. He slept curled up next to me last night, but would sleep in the crate, too. Keep him in mind, he will be ready for you soon!

Such good buddies! Leo continues to open up to us every day. He and my sister's RAGOM dog, Lucy, play together so well. He is finally starting to play with toys and having so much fun. He has learned to sit and is working on lay and stay. He continues to be the sweetest boy ever! He is truly so easy and so loving! We are going to miss this guy a lot!!

Leo and I had an absolutely amazing time at the Burnsville Petco Event! As always, thank you so much to the event planning team, it was a stellar event!

As I have previously mentioned, we believe Leo came from some trying circumstances. He was definitely neglected and more that we will never know. We have been puzzled by the behavior that really points to the premise that he was an outdoor dog, just his complete naiveté when dealing with very simple things about household life. He was unnerved by doors, doorbells, the dishwasher, the bathtub, eating inside, and so much more. Yet, in the almost 3 weeks that he has been with us, he has never had an accident in our house, not once! That muddies the waters a bit! However, we have noticed that he hangs around the garage a lot, leans on it, and gets very excited when we open it, but not for the purpose of getting in the car. So, we are starting the think he lived in the garage.

That has certainly all changed for Leo, and he is changing, beautifully, right along with it. He is daily becoming more and more open and loving. The greeting when I walked in the door literally brought me to tears today. He is so genuinely happy to see me and does not retreat from his impulse, as he did previously, to come to me and greet me with funny, sweet little kisses. Seriously, my heart flipped over!

I have loved each and every foster we have had and thought that each one would be the hardest to give up. But, with Leo, I feel a bit differently. I will be very sad and miss him more than I can say, but realize that, not only will I get to brighten and improve Leo's life by 100 fold, I will also be able to do the same for the lucky family that takes him home! This boy is special, a one-of-a-kind gentle giant. Showing him what love can do and seeing love, safety, and security replace the bewildered, sad, disillusioned look in his eyes is truly one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. Really, so profound.

So, yes I will cry for my big, beautiful, gentle giant, but they will be tears of love and joy. If you met Leo in Burnsville, you know how amazing he is! If not, come meet him! It is quite obvious that this Foster Mom will have no trouble singing his praises!!

Today Leo got the "thumbs up" from the Vet. His neuter incision is healing nicely and he is all up to date with his shots. The Vet agreed with me that he is a great big sweetheart! She noticed that he is very submissive and we talked about some of his tentative behavior. We totally agreed that, as issues go, his are very easy to deal with. We both speculate that he was possibly more of an outdoor than indoor dog. She feels that it is very likely that he will get past some of his reluctance, but even now, is an amazingly sweet and loving boy! We are working on commands, sit and come so far, and he is doing so well!

This boy is really special. He has so much love to give and is so willing to give it! Take the time to meet this gentle soul and you will see how special he is!
