Leroy did very well at the PetSmart event, he was very calm and sweet to all who came to greet him. I attribute this to the fact that he was wearing his Gentle Leader (the calm part anyway, he's always sweet)! It really helps, he actually wears it throughout the day, and it calms him, he doesn't jump up as much or mouth.
He is still having a hard time getting the house training part. He drinks a lot of water, then needs to go potty very often. If we miss the signs, or sometimes there isn't a sign, then we are left with a very long trail of urine throughout the house (he's a 'walking pee-r') -- yet when he pees outside, he basically stays in one spot! It's very frustrating. We have tried to curb this by keeping him in an exercise pen (even though I am home all day), which gives him more room than his large crate. He still pees in that, and yesterday, he peed in his crate on his bed right after I put him in it. We now have him on a young puppy schedule, taking him out about every hour (unless he's napping), and then giving him a treat, along with lots of praise right after he goes potty. It seems to be working so far.
Other than the potty incidents, he is a great boy, very sweet and affectionate, loves the kids, other dogs and cats. He does play with toys and bones now, he must have just been too nervous to play when we first got him. He will pounce on any toy/ball that is out and will destuff toy animals.
He rides well in the truck, every day he comes with me to pick my son up from Kindergarten. He is a big boy at 48 pounds, I'm not sure how big he will get. He was neutered last week. He needs some work on his walks, he does well with the Gentle Leader on, but he is all over the place, he's constantly wrapping me up with the leash. I would say that he definitely needs obedience training, lots of walks and exercise, and possibly someone who is home most of the day until he can get acquainted to house training!
