Love to Lexi and her foster family!  Love to Lexi and her foster family from Kathie!

Lexi arrived at our home on Sunday 10/28. She is a 9 year old, spayed female on the smaller side (probably 55 lbs. tops). In the three days we have had Lexi we have come to realize that she is an exceptionally loving friend with few undesirable traits.

This dog could fit into almost any home without much owner effort. Here are some of the things we know about Lexi:

  1. Friendly to other dogs and cats.
  2. House and crate trained -- had free roam in former home for up to 10 hours/day.
  3. Good on leash, pulls a very little bit but could easily be trained out of it.
  4. No separation or storm anxiety, a non-barker.
  5. Good with older children (10+), not good with very young children however, as she exhibits some resource guarding of highly prized items.
  6. Knows basic commands, sit, stay, come, drop, leave, kennel, perhaps more.
  7. Playful, curious, loves to play fetch & delivers to hand.
  8. Sleeps all night.

I am enjoying this little dog a lot.  Lexi has a good nature and she is happy and obedient.  She hasn't gotten into any trouble in the  weeks I've had her.  Yesterday we went for a 30 minute walk and she very easy on the leash, no pulling and she enjoyed the exercise.  Here in this picture she came into the room and plopped down on the floor by her toys.  That little white bear is another toy she likes.  She mouths it for a while and holds it in her mouth when she is laying on the floor or else she will just lay her head on it and close her eyes.  She looks so sweet as if she loves this little bear.  She has free roam of the house all day, even when I'm gone.  At night I use a gate to keep her in my room where she sleeps on the floor.  I like the sound of her breathing when she sleeps.  She's a cutie, that's for sure!!

Everyone loves Lexi!!!  She is very sweet and super friendly and smart.  She understands commands and she obeys me.   I have a 10 year old cat who did not have any anxiety because Lexi is a sweetheart and was not at all aggressive.  They are both coexisting in the house without any issues at all. Today was one of those extremely cold winter days, but she let me now when she needed to go outside to go potty and she rolled around on her back in the snow.   She took a couple of naps today and laid right where the sunshine was on the floor.   She also has a doggie bed/blanket on the floor by my sofa and that's where she chews on her bones or takes another snooze.  When it's time for bed she will lay on the floor by my bed or goes into her kennel and is quiet until morning.   She had her teeth cleaned during the summer and is up to date with her vaccinations.  Lexi isn't taking any medications and she is in very good health.

I am really enjoying the company of this cute little dog.  When I pet her she leans into me and raises her paw. let's me put my arms around her neck and scratch behind her ears.  She loves it, she doesn't get too excited, very calm and gentle.

Merry Christmas to the Golden Seniors! From Anonymous Merry Christmas to the Golden Seniors! From Anonymous

Saturday, December 22, 2012

Hi Everyone it's me Lexi!  I just had to chime in here and say thank you thank you to anonymous for my Christmas Mitten Sponsorship!  I've had a few vet bills since I've come to RAGOM and your donation will absolutely help cover my medical care!  I don't much like going to the vet but the nice vet lady gave me some antibiotics when I had an infected face for awhile and she checked out my lump on my rear left side and we found out it was just a fat lump!  Thanks so much for your Mitten Sponsorship.  I'm so happy for your help so I can feel better and find my forever family!  I want to be the baby in the family. . just me and my family. . wouldn't you?

Love
Lexi

Last Sunday marked one week for Lexi in our home so she has pretty much settled in. Lexi is crate trained and "kennels up" on command. We've been crating her while we are at work, about 4-5 hours at a time. We typically go home for lunch so she gets a mid-day break. She pretty much has free roam when we are at home and sleeps on the floor in our bedroom all night without a peep.

Lexi was surrendered because she had some resource guarding issues. Essentially she tried to recover valued items (I think it was food or perhaps a favorite toy) from a young child (~1-2) which resulted in the child getting nipped. This happened several times so the family reluctantly decided to let RAGOM find her another home. Lexi respects authority. This means that she doesn't exhibit any resource issues with older children or adults. She and our alpha male Clifford (a big time toy hoarder) have not had any issues either. I would also expect that a 3-4+ year old child would not have any problems if they are taught not to try to take things away from her.

Lexi certainly fits into our pack well. She is obedient and loving. She is extremely alert and energetic but is easy controlled as she responds well to voice commands; sit, come, and stay. Some additional reinforcement with her commands is needed however.

This girl loves to retrieve!! A fenced yard (4 ft. or more) would be a big plus but she is currently living in a condo with no problems so it isn't necessary. A ball would adequately serve as a virtual leash. I would be comfortable taking Lexi outside without a leash as she stays right with you but of course RAGOM rules for foster families don't allow this. I should have told everyone that Lexi is up-to-date on shots, micro chipped and heartworm negative. This means that she is all ready to go to some very lucky home. We would love to tell you more about this lovable dog if you are the right kind of home for her.
