Meet Miss Dixie, we call her the little one. She is the smallest dog I have ever had! She is a Golden mix with Boarder Collie, so she is the size of a Collie and as soft and as sweet as can be! She weighs in at about 44# and should weigh more like 40# (petite). She is about 5 or 6 years old.

Dixie's story is she was surrendered to a Humane Society due to neglect and no time for her. Poor girl was kept in an outdoor kennel. She lived with 2 other dogs and got along fine with them as well as cats. She LOVES people and gives the most gentle of kisses. She is a lap dog and the perfect size for one. It was unknown if she was housetrained or not but she has had NO accidents and acts like she know she is suppose to do her thing outside.

Her ride to me was a very stressful one, she had about an 8 hour drive to me and she started out in a kennel as she was being transported with 2 other dogs and she whined and cried the whole time! Then another transporter had her ride shot gun with him and she did better as far as whining but she was all over the place, wanted
to sit in his lap!! So she had to be tied to the seat so he could do his driving. When I got to her she had an hour left on her drive and my daughter sat in the back seat with her but had to hold the leash the whole time as she would have been on my lap! So she was a little anxious for the ride. I don’t think she has done much traveling and it was all new to her! As she got settled down in the house and realized everything was ok, she started to calm down.

As you know border collies are very smart and love to do agility, but so far she does not seem to know what to do with toys, but we are working on that. Her first night was great and ever since, she sleeps next to the bed and does not make a sound. She loves to sleep in the kennel during the day when we are home with the door open, she is in there all the time. For now that is where she is when we are not home (door closed of course). We will try free roam in the days to come to see how she does.

We had several people over on her 2nd day here for an early Christmas and she loved everyone and was very good, no jumping, just wanted to say hi and give those kisses.

I think she can be trained easily as far as boundaries go but for now I will say she needs a fence, we have a 5 foot fence and she is good. And for being as tiny as she is she sure can pull on the leash!! More on this little one in the days to come, but check out that sweet face!!

We lost Lexie aka Chemo Puppy after battling lymphoma for nine months.  It was worth a try--the chemo did not faze her one bit and it did keep her healthy for quite a while.  She actually LOVED going to the U to get her treatments and would jump for joy when I got out the special 'treatment day' leash.  She had a lovely last day and all her friends in oncology got to say goodbye.  Here is a picture of her guarding my living room from any wolves that might attack her flock.

Dixie had a visitor over the weekend and will be going to her furever family in a week or so! She will be going to a home where she will get the exercise and
obedience training she needs and will love. They will be great company for each other as they learn new things together. Her new name will be Lexie.

Well Miss Dixie our little one is doing much better after her surgery! And we noticed that she has sponsors, Dixie wants to thank the Judy L family for their support, as you know the vet bills can add up quickly. She wishes you all a Happy New Year!!

Dixie is doing great, she is such a sweetie, now that she has leaned how to fetch she is having fun with that, she has picked up on the fetch thing faster than any dog I have had, I suppose that is the border Collie in her, they are very smart dogs! I would not call her a mellow dog, but not hyper either. When she is in the house she is very good, paces a lot as Collies do. She would do wonderful with an active family who likes to do things outside! She will need some boundary lessons for sure, she would LOVE obedience training just for the activity of it and then maybe down the road some agility!!

I think I have only heard her bark once since she has been here. Completely housetrained, Love to sit in your lap. And those ears, they perk up and she has that head tilt when you talk to her, so cute! She says Happy New Year to you all and again Thanks to the family that has sponsored her, she is very excited about that!

Just a quick update on sweet Dixie, As you can see by the pictures she is learning to play with toys, very exciting to watch her. She has had no accidents so is completely housetrained. Sleeps great through the night. Maybe getting a little better in the car, still very anxious but the more she is in one I think the better she gets.

Today she went to the vet and had to have 3 bad teeth pulled (all molars), stitches and all, so she is at home resting. She has meds to help her with the pain and on antibiotics for infection. Her mouth is going to feel so much better once she heals and maybe she will eat a little better. The picture of her with the  blue sponge bob blanket is her resting after her surgery!! Get well soon little one. More on her later. She wants to wish every one a Merry Christmas!!
