Lilly 10-042

Profile

Lilly is settling in nicely and is a very sweet girl for living her short life outside.  At first she was scared of many things as most outdoor dogs are:  going thru doors, walking on bare floors, stairs, car rides, some nervous pacing and sudden movements.  Slowly but surely she is making good progress on all of these areas with a lot of help and demonstrations from the resident Ragom girl.

On Saturday Lilly bravely had her first vet appointment and did well considering she was a bit scared and shakey.  A good squirt of canned cheese on the exam table preoccupied her enough to receive her DHPP and Rabies vaccines and her microchip.  The vet confirmed her fecal results today and she has a good case of roundworms and whipworms and has started her medication.  She will need to be retested in 3 weeks.

The foster family and resident dog have fallen in love with this black little beauty and is planning on adopting her as soon as her spay surgery is completed Wednesday Feb 24th.

Hey everyone! I found my forever home and I'm adopted!  Come closer so I can give you a big wet kiss!  Ha!

I have a new goldendoodle sister as well as goldendoodle cousin and golden lab cousin!  How lucky can a girl get?  VERY!  We all can drink out of the water bowl at the same time - it is a fun site to see (and quite messy).

I am almost all healed up from my spay surgery and the bump on my back turned out to be a vaccine reaction from the rabies shot, so the docs as VCA reported the reaction to the manufacturer.

I'm still working on potty training, it's a long process for me.  FM had me checked out last week for a urinary tract infection because I can pee 3 times an hour for multiple hours.  (There was no bacteria in the urine but we are still waiting on the culture to come back next week).  It may be a  behavioral issue from being an outside dog for my first 6 1/2 months and not having to hold it.  But my new family is committed to helping me figure this out, so I'll get there soon.  Once I conquer that I get to sleep on the bed with everyone, so that's a good goal to work towards.

Other than that, I have learned quickly how to sit politely for my food and wait for FM to say "OK" before eating.  Actually, that was easy to learn by watching my new sister.  I take treats nicely and don't resource guard my food either.  I know sit, down, stay (sorta), come, and family hug!  And I was told that after I get basic training commands down, I get to do Agility for Fun!  I can't wait!

Happy Muddy Spring to Everyone!  Good thing this house is used to muddy paw prints....it's gonna get messy!

Hey Everyone, Lilly here!  Just giving you a quick update.

I had my spay surgery last week and did GReat!   FM has kept me on a tether all the time for the past week so I can't run in the yard (well, I did one little escape lap in the yard this morning).  I have a lot of energy and ready to run with my foster sister (soon to be furever sister), but FM says another 10 days of reserved activity.  But we go for long walks (I'm really good on a Gentle Leader, though I startle when a hear big barking dogs) so that helps burn off some energy.

FM noticed a hard marble-sized lump on my back Sunday night so we went to the vet tonight to check it out.  The Dr. T stuck me with 2 needles and I did not like that at all.  She said the lump was at a higher point than where she normally gives the rabies vaccine.  After looking at the slide under the microscope, Dr. T said it was not a lipoma (benign fatty tumor) or ingrown hair (histocytoma) or one other "oma" which FM can't remember right now.  The cells were highly active (at least part of my body is!!!) indicating chronic inflammation.  She is suspicious of a vaccine reaction.  So the course of action is to apply warm packs a couple of times a day (yippee-- more snuggle time on the bed for me!) for a week or so and watch it.  Apparently it can take 2-4 weeks to go away.  If it doesn't after that, then we have to talk about a biospy.  We are keeping paws crossed it'll just go away!

Other than that, I am working on potty training.  FM is trying to get me to bark to go outside but resident dog just does the barking for me, so why bother!  But today I showed progress at scratching at the door, though FM prefers a bark.  I'll consider doing it her way, but for now, I'll do it my way.

I have also shown quite a talent for destuffing toys and tearing the bed in the kennel to shreds.  Now I just have a couple of towels and loads of chew toys in there.   I'm just don't see how it is fair that resident dog gets to lounge on the bed while I have to be in the kennel when FM is gone.  Something about "immaturity", but I don't know what that means yet.  Oh well.

Here's some happy pics of me now that I'm settled in.
